Desecrated Essence (Desecrated Duet, #2)(51)
Author: C.A. Rene

I knew it! He was watching us.

“She’s a pretty thing.” This Cameron man is giving me the creeps. “I think she might be more important to you than you’re saying.”

“Oh yeah?” Brody sneers and I watch as he steps aside, completely exposing me. “Kill her.”

 “What?’ I growl at him.

Nobody moves as Cameron swings his gun and points it point blank at me. His fat, sweating face puffs up into a cruel smile.

 “You sure?” He asks Brody.

“I told you I don’t care about her. Use her as a target for all I care.”

The small pieces of my heart that still held out hope for the damaged boy I once loved, burns into nothing. He let go of me a long time ago.

I watch as Cameron’s shooter finger presses into the trigger and I feel someone behind me grabbing my dress. I clamp my eyes shut and wait for the shot. This man has it out for Brody and if there’s any chance he thinks Brody is lying, then he’ll use it.

“Kailey-Himari Richard.” Caine growls and I hear Cameron hum.

“This is Charles Richard’s daughter.” He chuckles. “I will kill her as payback for her father reneging on his deal.”

 “Go ahead.” Brody taunts.

I hear the shot but my mind takes a while to process what happened and why my face is smeared into the earth. Not something I ever wanted to happen to me again. The body on my back is like lead and I try to wiggle out so I can breathe.

 “Stop moving.” Caine grunts.

“She’s lucky she has a couple bodyguards huh?” Cameron chuckles. “He was all too happy to take a shot for her.”

 “Caine!” I shrill.

“I’m fine. The fucker missed.” He begins to get up and I see Zeke and Cooper have moved into position in front of us.

“Will you fucking take her inside?” Brody growls under his breath. The asshole is going to get a punch in the face.

As soon as Caine is off of me, I see red, and Brody’s head turns in slow motion just as I snarl.

I push between Cooper and Zeke, just trying to get to him, when he jumps out in front of the three of us. His eyes widen and I hear a bang, followed closely by another. Zeke yells and reaches out to Brody as Cooper turns and grabs me around the waist.

I watch Caine jump to his feet and run to where Zeke is crouched on the ground.

 No.

Where is he? Did he just take a bullet for me?

 Please no.

I shove Cooper’s arms off me and run forward, tripping on my shoes. I fall into Caine and shove him away.

 No.

Zeke is saying something as he rocks back and forth and it feels like it’s taking my body forever to get to him.

 Please no.

I fall to my knees and crawl forward to him as he lays still on the ground.

“Just keep your eyes open okay?” I hear Zeke moan.

 No… no.

“Brody?” My voice is small and meek. He would hate it and tell me I sound stupid.

His head turns slowly as I crawl the rest of the way to him. He’s pale and there’s a small trickle of blood escaping his mouth.

 God no… I can’t lose him.

“Kails…” his voice is barely a whisper and I suck back a sob threatening to push its way out. He would hate that even more. “I…”

 “Get his jacket off.” Oliver?

I look up and see my fourth boyfriend rushing over and kneeling beside Brody. Did he shoot him?

“Where was he hit?” Oliver rips Brody’s jacket open and I gasp when I see his white shirt saturated in red.

 No.

Oliver rips that shirt open and I scream when I see the blood pooling around a hole in the center of his chest. Oliver whips his sweater off and pushes it down on top of Brody’s chest.

Cooper tries to grab me but Brody’s head is still facing me and his mouth is moving.

I lean my ear down over his mouth.

“Kails…” he sounds so small, so weak. “Don’t… hate me… any less.”

“I won't.” I begin to cry. I love him, no matter what, I will always love the boy with icy blue eyes who stepped in front of a bullet meant for me.

 “Be… vibrant and… free.”

“No, Brody. No!” I scream. “Don’t you dare leave me! Don’t you even dare!”

I grab his face and his head lolls.

“Kail.” Oliver’s voice penetrates my wails. “I need to help him. Go with the others.”

“I’m not leaving.” Zeke moans as he cries for his brother, his closest friend.

The sirens start in the background, a slow, low, wail and Caine bends down to lift me up.

 “No!” I scream.

“Please.” Caine’s voice trembles, “please let us get you out of here. He would want that.”

“No! I’m not leaving him again!” I scream.

Caine picks me up off my feet and I kick out as I struggle to get away. I see Cooper grab Zeke and we all head towards the front. I look back one last time to see Oliver pumping into Brody’s chest and Cameron Ballon’s body sprawled out with a single shot between his eyes.

“No!” I scream, reaching my hand out. “No!”

 God please no.

 6 months later

The stage is decorated in J.F. Kennedy Prep’s colors, gold and blue. The podium stands dead center stage and the teacher’s chairs are one single row. I squirm in my seat as sweat slides down my tailbone and into my pants.

It’s a fucking scorcher today and of course our graduation falls on it. I want to be home in my sweats eating a gallon of ice cream and watching a bad soap opera. Cooper leans over and runs his tongue up my neck and I shiver at the touch.

“You look so fucking sexy, Sha.” He croons.

“Don’t get her any more squirmier than she already is.” Caine growls and his voice has me biting my lip.

I have been completely insatiable these last few months, like I can’t get enough of my men’s dicks and most days I feel like my house is a sex den.

“Good evening J.F. Kennedy’s graduating class.” Oliver’s voice rings clear over the mic and my panties soak at the sound.

“Oh fuck,” Zeke leans over Caine and looks into my face. “Someone’s got it bad for Teacher.”

Kimmy turns in her seat in front of us to throw me a wink and a giggle.

He’s damn right I do. Zeke has also grown quite a bit in the last six months and just fit into the fold like he was always meant to be there. He’s been seeing his therapist for the cutting and has definitely begun to bring his life back to his own. He hasn’t cut a single time since saying goodbye to his mother for good, that stress is gone and he’s a lighter, happier person.

“You keep looking like that and I will take you back to our washroom.” Caine grumbles.

Ah yes, our washroom, the one he made me suck his dick in at the beginning of the year. Everything has changed since then.
