Serving Mr. Chamberlain (Different Hearts #3)(16)
Author: Izaia Winter

Quentin used the club and its nameless crowd to soothe the edges of his need, but it wasn’t what he wanted. No, my Quentin didn’t want to wander around a club every night to serve random strangers. My little rabbit wanted to serve someone he loved. He wanted a single person to devote all his time and energy into satisfying. He went to the club because he hadn’t been able to find that person. He used the club to serve the only way he knew how.

“Well?” I whispered when he calmed down, and I felt like he was ready to continue.

“How?” he breathed into my skin.

Wanting to look him in the eye while we talked, I jostled and pushed until both of us were sitting up. Seeing him fully, I noticed his eyes were a little red and his cheeks were puffy from crying, but he was still so pretty.

I’d done some research the day before and had come across a book about service-oriented BDSM. Using it, I outlined my plan for him. “At work, we continue as we have been. I feel like it’s working for us. Unless you have something you’d like to change about our routine?”

He looked down and started picking at his nails, a surefire sign that he did. Reaching out, I placed a hand over his to stop him.

“What is it?” I waited for a response, but he didn’t answer. “I can’t fix it unless you tell me.”

Quentin looked toward the door and his desk. “I don’t like being outside.”

I followed the direction of his gaze. Seeing the shut door, I imagined what it felt like for him to be on the outside always looking in. “I need you to act as my receptionist.” I paused and lifted a finger when his shoulders slumped. “But, I can start leaving the door open when I’m alone. Will that work for you?”

Visibly brightening, he nodded. “Yes, sir.”

“As for outside of work, I’m going to spend the rest of the week going about my schedule as usual. I’ll keep a running list of my daily activities and how I see you fitting into them. Saturday morning, you’ll come over to my apartment and spend the day with me. We’ll start working on my list then.”

“I’d like that, sir.” His tentative smile blossomed.

“Good, it’s a date,” I said, relieved that the hardest part was over.

“Are we going to tell people, or is this just between us?” he asked as he leaned forward into me.

“We don’t hide.” I wanted everyone to know he was mine and off-limits.

“Yes, sir.” He smiled and looked down at my hands as they drifted up and down his thighs. “I mean—yes, Nolan.”

“Now you’re getting it.” Unwilling to stop myself, I lifted my head and brushed a kiss against his lips. “I want to take you out tonight.”

“Okay.”

“Where do you want to go?” I asked, thinking he’d have somewhere he’d like to try after scheduling all my lunch meetings for the past two weeks.

“My place?”

“No beds,” I said, once again having to make room for my cock. He was more forward than I had expected. I liked it.

“How about that Indian place you went to last week? The menu looked amazing when I was setting up your reservations.”

“Deal. Get a table for us at six. I’ll drive.”

“Yes, sir,” he said, all but swooning in my lap from the small command.

I wondered how much longer I could keep him until work interrupted when my phone rang. Groaning, I slid one hand to his ass and the other to his hip. Holding him steady between my palms, I helped him up from off of my lap. I gave his ass a light squeeze and a tap before letting him go.

“Leave the door open,” I said as I picked up the phone. Answering the call, I didn’t understand a word the man said as I focused on watching Quentin walk away.

He paused for a moment to readjust his shirt. Once satisfied with his appearance, he glanced around my office. Spying the small, potted plant I kept on my windowsill, he crossed the room and pilfered it. I was confused about why he was taking it until he opened my door and used the plant to prop it open. Pleased with his work, he looked back at me as if to seek my approval.

Nodding once, I caught a glimpse of his dazzling smile as he turned away. I’d never seen him look so happy.

Sitting on the edge of my desk, I kept my eye on him as he cleaned up our lunch and then returned to his work. Seeing him settled, I switched my attention to the other person on the line. Shaking my head, I disconnected the call without a word. I couldn’t believe that I’d been so distracted by Quentin that I hadn’t realized the person on the other end was a telemarketer.

Placing the phone back in the cradle, I stood and rounded my desk. I sat and wasted a solid thirty minutes staring at Quentin through the open door. He glanced back several times as if to make sure I was still there. It got me wondering how often he’d done the same thing in the past only to see a closed door.

Never again, I vowed as I reached for one of my case files.

It was time someone started putting his needs first.

Chapter Five

Quentin

I replied to my emails and answered the phone as I thought over everything that had happened in Mr. Chamberlain’s office. Out of every scenario I’d played out in my head over the weekend, none had come a fraction of an inch close to reality.

I lifted a hand and brushed my fingers against my lips, remembering his kiss. My lips still felt sensitive even hours later. I couldn’t help thinking of other places that would be sensitive after Mr. Chamberlain was done with them. Shifting in my chair, I looked over my shoulder to sneak another glance at him because I could.

He was reading over some documents, a pen clamped between his lips as he studied the wording of the contract he was looking over. His lips quirked into a smirk as he crossed out a word and wrote something else in its place.

Those lips had touched mine. He’d kissed me. Mr. Chamberlain had kissed me.

I still couldn’t believe it had happened. I’d gone from wanting to quit to sitting in the man’s lap while he’d kissed me. And in twenty minutes, he was taking me to dinner. As in a date. I had a date with Mr. Chamberlain.

And my promise?

I hadn’t thought of my words as a promise when I’d said them to Chrissy in the break room. I’d said what I’d said in the heat of the moment with no thought to the words that were coming out of my mouth. I’d thought I was quitting, leaving the door open for her to sink her claws into Mr. Chamberlain.

I got chills all over my body whenever I remember him repeating my words back to me as if he was promising to give me the same. What I wanted was nothing special. Most people wanted to find someone to love. I just had a few extra steps. Mr. Chamberlain didn’t see my need to serve as a burden. Remembering the way he’d touch me, I thought he seemed to enjoy it. Or at least he enjoyed the thought of it.

Only time would tell if the thing between us would flourish or burn to the ground, but I was willing to give him a chance.

Turning back to my computer, I forced myself to ignore the little clock at the corner of my screen. It was ten minutes ‘til five, and I knew if I stared at the time, those ten minutes would come to a complete standstill.

A hand landed on my shoulder. I jumped and squeaked like the little rabbit that he’d called me earlier. Lifting a hand to my chest, I spun around in my chair and stared up at him. “I think you gave me a heart attack, sir.”
