Beautiful Deceit (Watch Me Burn #3)(22)
Author: R.E. Bond

“We can’t fuck. It was a one-time thing, and I was with Lukas this afternoon. I haven’t had a shower yet,” I forced out, feeling dirty as I said it.

He growled, his teeth nipping my ear sharply to draw my attention.

“Like I give a fuck. I don’t care that you have multiple guys in your life. You know what makes me fucking crazy? That I’m okay with how it all works with you guys. No one gets jealous, everyone’s just so casual about it, and I hated knowing Skeet got you like that to himself. I just wanted a piece of what he had.”

“Me?” I asked softly, his reply coming out in a similar tone.

“Complete and utter peace, Rory. You give him a sense of fucking peace that I’ve never seen him have. It drove me insane with jealousy for a while, until I realized you liked hanging around me, and for a second I got some of that peace too.”

His hold on me relaxed and his hands dropped to my waist as he turned me to face him.

I rested a hand on his bare chest, his heartbeat thumping under my palm.

“Hunter, you’re part of my peace too. You have no idea how much you mean to me.”

“I think I might,” he murmured before kissing me hard, his fingers digging into my waist as I pressed against him firmly with a sound of appreciation.

His phone beeped, making a growl rip from his throat as he pulled back from me and yanked it from his pocket to read the text.

He sighed, annoyance taking over his face, and I instantly knew we weren’t about to fuck on his kitchen table.

“Might as well put a movie on and get comfortable, hot shot. Some of the guys are on the way over.”

I cringed, not wanting to deal with any drama.

“My guys or yours?”

“Mine, don’t panic. You can still molest me on the couch,” he grinned, gently pushing me in the direction of the loungeroom as he grabbed a few glasses for the others.

I’d spent plenty of time around his crew, but I’d never really met them, as such.

He always kept me separate from them, curtesy of Skeeter, I was sure.

He sat on the couch and pulled me onto his lap before hitting play on the movie he’d picked.

“Hunter?” I suddenly asked as he got comfortable beneath me, but he didn’t take his eyes off the television.

“Hmm?”

“Are you guys really sticking around, or will you be leaving again?” I almost whispered, my heart hurting at the thought.

I didn’t want him to leave.

The asshole had grown on me too much.

He frowned, handing the whisky over and finally glancing at me.

“We only lived a couple of towns over. Most of the crew haven’t even moved here, only me and a few of the guys decided it was time to move home. We grew up here, so it made sense. I’m not going anywhere.”

God, I sounded like a whiney bitch.

“Promise?”

“I promise,” he said softly, placing a kiss on my temple just as there was a knock at the door and it swung open.

A few of the Devils strolled in, one smirking at us the moment he spotted me on his boss’s lap.

I’d seen him with Hunter a hell of a lot, and I’d checked him out a time or two on the sly.

I remembered seeing him for the first time when Hunter and his guys had shot at me and Diesel on my first drug run, and the guy didn’t want to leave Hunter alone with us to talk.

His olive skin was covered in tattoos, and I’d almost bet he had more skin covered with ink than Skeeter did.

His black hair was short, and I was pretty sure his tattoos vanished into his hair line.

“Hey, man. You didn’t mention you had her here,” he said dryly, causing me to bristle at his tone.

Hunter snorted, giving him a look of disapproval.

“Don’t need to tell you shit. Besides, she’s part of the furniture here, so you might as well get used to it.”

The other three Devils sat down on one of the couches, but the chatty guy chuckled and dropped down on the couch beside us.

“You know I’m playing, brother. Rory, right?”

I met his golden-brown eyes and raised an eyebrow, ignoring the trouble that swam beneath the surface.

“Right.”

He gave me a cocky smirk that bugged me, pulling his lower lip between his teeth for a second before speaking.

“I was told you were a little testy. I was also told you belong to Skeet.”

“I don’t fucking belong to anyone,” I growled, but Hunter tightened his arm around me and rolled his eyes.

If he loosened his grip on me, chances we high that I’d punch his smart-assed friend right on the nose.

Rival crew member be damned.

“You know the deal, Marco, so don’t stir the fucking pot. She owns Skeet by the sounds of things anyway.”

“Skeet doesn’t belong to anyone either. He does what he wants, and he always has,” Marco chuckled, his eyes trailing up the ink on my arms before lingered on the part of my neck where it met my shoulder.

“Rory and Skeet split temporarily a while back. He got laid to heal his battered heart and Rory walked in and shot at them. She doesn’t take any shit, man. So watch it,” Hunter grinned, making me frown.

“How the fuck do you even know about that? You weren’t fucking here back then.”

He shrugged, managing to keep his face casual.

“Skeet and I caught up a lot when you were in the pen.”

“As in, you guys talked shit about me for two months?” I scoffed, watching as a teasing look crossed his face.

“Doubt it. Just exchanged notes so we can learn how to handle your crazy ass better. Safety in numbers and all that crap,” he winked, laughing at me as he dodged my fist.

Marco kept watching me as if trying to work out whether to kill me or not, but I ignored him and went back to watching the movie, letting the guys talk in peace.

Chapter 5

Rory

“Donovan, calm down,” Hunter ordered gently, making a sadistic smirk take over my blood splattered face.

He was kidding, right?

“Why the fuck would I do that?”

“Because, you’re going to get in trouble, which means you’re going to get me in fucking trouble,” he hissed, but I wasn’t really in the mood to give a shit.

He knew this would happen.

I’d had a long day, I was in a foul mood, and the little demon on my shoulder had been nagging at me all day to inflict some pain.

“Good,” I gritted out, flexing my fists before jerking my chin at Marco, who chuckled and pushed another chick towards me, before he sauntered out of the way.

Hunter had thought it was a good idea to let me fight at the warehouse to let off some steam, but the more fired up I became, the more he started to worry.

I took down every fighter they threw at me, but the last one got a few good hits in, and I fed off the fucking pain.

Two more fights later, Hunter grabbed my arm and tugged me out to the back room, ignoring me as I struggled against his hold.

“Enough, babe. You’re fucking done for the night. You’re copping damage that you can’t exactly hide.”

“What the fuck? No, I’m not done!” I snapped angrily, but he shoved me back from him slightly and pointed at my face.
