Vested Interest Boxed Set : Books 4-7(227)
Author: Melanie Moreland

"Wow," I mumbled. "I liked that surprise."

She laughed. "Good. There's lots more."

"Not that I'm objecting, but any reason for the purchases?"

"No. I'd heard about their products and thought it might be fun. I mentioned it to Cami and Dee, and they were all for a party. Even Sandy was excited."

"Yeah, I don't want to think about that."

She chuckled. "You're funny. She is a woman."

"So she reminded me. I can't...I just can't. It's Sandy."

"Okay." She soothed me with a giggle. "We won't discuss Sandy and Pure Romance™ anymore."

"Good. Now you and Pure Romance™ I'm good with."

I felt her smile on my chest.

"I have no idea what else you have in that bag, but holy shit, I can hardly wait to try it. All of it." I paused. "And buy more."

She laughed, the sound breathless and light. "We had a lot of fun tonight."

"Good."

"I had even more fun with you," she whispered. "I love us together."

"Me too, BB."

She snuggled close and I ran my finger over the lace of her new lingerie. "I managed not to rip this. I can't promise next time."

"I can get more."

"Good. You should get that V-necked one too. The one-piece."

She looked up at me, one eyebrow raised.

I shrugged. "I had some time to kill. I looked at their site." I grinned. "I made a wish list."

"You can look in the bag tomorrow and see what I missed. I can always add to my order."

"Excellent." I lifted one eyebrow. "Any chance of a butt plug in there?"

"For you or me?"

I chuckled. "You, BB. Definitely you."

"Maybe."

My cock twitched.

"They have toys just for men, you know. And for couples."

"I saw that. We'll have to go through the site together." I lifted the tube of enchantment cream. "This is going on the list."

"I got two."

"Okay. That'll do for now."

She yawned, trying to cover it with her hand. I laughed and kissed her softly. "Go to sleep, BB. We can compare notes in the morning. Maybe we can try something else in your bag of tricks."

"Okay," she mumbled, already drifting.

I kissed her and carefully manoeuvred us under the blanket. I had a feeling, despite the late hour, we'd be awake early, eager to try out something else.

Thanks to Pure Romance™, it was gonna be a great week.

First Date: Colin and Miranda

Thank you to the members of Lucy Score’s Binge Readers Anonymous for inviting me to “Tell Me A Story”. The story I told was the first date of Sandy’s charming grandson, Colin Preston, and his future wife, Miranda.

Here is the version for my readers.

Colin

I pulled on my jacket, grabbing my scarf and winding it around my neck. The temperature in the hospital rivaled that of the Bahamas, but I knew once I stepped outside, the icy chill would make the heat I’d dealt with all day a distant memory.

I passed the nurses station, waving goodbye. I heard my name being called, and I turned to see a fellow ER doctor heading my way. Mack Roberts grinned at me.

“Hey, Colin, you coming to the bar?”

I frowned. “The bar?”

He laughed, clapping me on the shoulder. “It’s Douglas’s last day. We’re all meeting up for a drink to say goodbye. You’re coming, right?”

I scratched my head. I had forgotten that was tonight. After a double shift in the busy ER, all I wanted was to go home, shower, grab a bite to eat, and hit the mattress. But Douglas was a good guy, and he would be missed around here. One drink wouldn’t hurt.

“Sure, yeah. I’m coming.”

“Great. Let me grab my coat, and I’ll walk over with you.”

I headed outside, breathing in the cold air, clearing my lungs and head of the medicinal smell. The air felt good on my skin, and I flapped my coat, letting in the cold and helping wake myself up.

“Is that your imitation of a bird?” an amused voice asked.

I turned and met the sparkling blue eyes of Miranda Chalmers, one of the head charge nurses in the ER. She’d only been with the hospital for a couple of months, but there was no doubt she was one of the best. Well liked by her peers and respected by the doctors, she was amazing at her job. Competent, organized, empathetic, and warm, she put the patients first and often fought on their behalf.

“Hi.” I grinned at her, thinking how pretty she looked with the snowflakes settling on her shoulders and chestnut hair. “Cooling off a little. It was like Hades in there all day.”

“I know. Maintenance was down twice. Something about a broken boiler and needing parts Apparently, we just have to suffer.”

“Typical.” We shared a knowing smile. Everything was a waiting game in the hospital.

“You off?” I asked.

She nodded, pulling on her gloves. “Headed to the bar. You?”

“Yeah, me too.”

A couple of other nurses walked out, one linking arms with Miranda. Linda smiled at me. “You coming, Dr. Preston?”

“Yeah, just waiting for Mack.” I smiled. “And it’s Colin. I’ve told you that before.”

They all laughed. We tried to be professional during working hours, but after I left the hospital, I preferred to just be me.

“You want to walk over with us?” Miranda asked.

“I’m waiting for Mack. You ladies go ahead.” I met Miranda’s eyes. “Save me a seat.”

She winked. “I’ll do that, Colin.”

They walked away, laughing. I watched them go, my stare focused on Miranda. She was smaller than the other two, and her hair gleamed brightly under the streetlights.

I had liked her the moment I met her. I had the feeling she liked me too. We clicked right away. Yet, somehow, I had never managed to find the right moment to ask her out. I wondered if perhaps tonight that might change.

As I waited for Mack, I recalled the day we’d met.

It had been a busy day in the ER. I was rushing between patients, barely able to chart or take a breath. The coffee I had brought in was still sitting in the lounge, having long since gone cold. I glanced at the board, groaning internally. It hadn’t gotten smaller—if anything, it had grown.

I grabbed a chart and headed to the next patient. As I approached, I heard the distinct sounds of a panicked child, a parent struggling to help, and then a voice I didn’t recognize.

“Hey, it’s okay. Look at me, Jane. Everything is going to be okay. The doctor isn’t going to hurt you. You sit still for one minute, and that chalk will be gone.”

“I no wanna!”

I hurried in and took in the situation. The child, Jane, had evidently stuffed a piece of chalk so far up her nose it wasn’t even visible. The blue powder all around her nostrils made it evident it was there, though.

Her mother was upset, the child anxious, but it was the nurse soothing them who caught my attention. Rich chestnut hair was pulled away from her face, a long ponytail hanging over her shoulder. Rounded cheeks and full lips were set into a heart-shaped face, and her deep blue eyes were striking. She was small and wore bright-colored scrubs with happy faces all over them, and she looked relieved when I walked in. She was pretty, her smile kind, and something about her beckoned to me. I recalled we’d had a new charge nurse arrive this week, but I had yet to meet her. I would have remembered this woman.
