Different with You (Matchbox #1)(28)
Author: E.H. Lyon

My look is of a man getting caught, yet finding it very entertaining as even I know I am a grown adult now.

“There is a woman?” My mother gives me a stern eye.

I lean against the counter with my hands finding my jean pockets. “There may be.” I try not to give an overly enthusiastic smile.

She puts both hands on the counter and leans in with excitement. “Are the rumors true?”

This makes me laugh. Theo comes running into the kitchen and tugs my arm.

“Can we have French toast for lunch?” he asks.

“Oui, I can make you French toast.” My mother puts her hands together.

“No! I want the kind Abby makes,” Theo declares, and right away my eyes turn from Theo to my mother who looks like she just struck gold.

My son is a little revealer today, that’s for sure.

“I will see if Abby can send me the recipe,” I mention as Theo runs back to the living room.

My mother looks at me with a winning grin and waves a finger at me. “This is wonderful news, Lucas. I always knew. I told you that you should have tried when you were younger.”

I nearly spit out my coffee that I was trying to enjoy. “Mother, I was like what, 17 then? Slightly different now.”

“True. Very different. So, she has met Theo?”

My head wobbles side to side as I set my coffee down. “Yes, but not as my girlfriend. We’re taking it slow.”

“Good. Good approach. Is it serious between you two?” My mother is now starting her line of questioning.

I shrug my shoulders. “It’s new. I mean, we kind of need to see where this goes, right?”

Her hands clasp together. “My plan worked.”

Of course, my mother wants the credit for this. But I need to be arrogant today, because I think it was my charm and skill that got me the girl.

I correct her. “Actually, we may have already seen each other a few times before your ice play.”

My mother laughs.

After a moment, she speaks again. “She is okay with Theo? I always wondered why she and her ex-husband never had children.”

Not my place to say, but I trust her, and if I don’t say something then we will never hear the end of it if we do get serious. “They didn’t want kids. Or least she doesn’t.”

My mother’s face turns to a frown and she thinks for a few moments. “Ah… Does that bother you?”

I give her a questioning look. “Why would it?”

My mother walks around the kitchen island to be a few steps from me and takes my hand and touches my arm gently. “I really like Abby. Think it is très magnifique. But don’t you maybe one day want more kids? Or does she really want to be part of a life with Theo?”

I understand her concern, but I don’t think of it as a big problem. I’m okay with one child, and so far, Abby has shown me that she is all in as far as Theo is concerned.

“No on both counts,” I inform her.

Her eyes squint in surprise. “You say that now. But maybe it changes.”

“I don’t know.”

“Just be careful, mon amour.”

There is now an odd pause between us.

She claps her hands together. “Oui, let me get some lunch for Theo.” She goes to scurry in the pantry to gather ingredients.

Leaving her earlier words to float in my brain, but maybe she didn’t drop the topic soon enough.

Chapter Fifteen

Abby

“Abigail, I love this news. Really, I do. Even when you were a little girl having tea parties in the garden and my sons were running endlessly around. I wanted you and Lucas to eventually end up together,” Mrs. Kade—Sofia—explains.

We’re sitting at Smokey Java’s with salad and mugs of tea. I sit there with a neutral smile on my face, listening to her.

“Why do I feel a but coming?”

“Lucas mentioned you don’t want children.”

Ah, there it is.

“True. I don’t see myself having children, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like children. Theo is a special kid,” I explain, but I already know that it won’t be enough for her.

“I would only hope that you two are not just having fun. Maybe it can be more. But I always thought Lucas would want more children. He is such a great father and was so happy when Isabella was pregnant and had Theo.”

That thought sends a twinge of jealousy through me.

“I understand. But I just don’t have an urge to have a child. And Lucas is a great dad. I have no problem with Theo. I know he and Lucas are a package deal,” I assure her.

“I am not going to push. It is the 21st century so views of children have changed and that’s okay. Children just grow fast, and I don’t want Lucas to have regret. I’m his mother, I am just concerned,” she explains.

“Okay. But we have only been together a little bit, maybe it’s too early for everyone to get worked up over this?”

“Oui, but if you have any doubts then please be careful with both of their hearts,” she mentions in a tender way. Her eyes looking into her mug of tea.

“I understand,” I answer.

“Bien. I won’t say more,” she states.

I do admire her for her honesty and the fact she isn’t coming off harsh or with an agenda. She is a genuine soul.

“Anyhow, I love your lingerie choices.” She winks at me, and my head stops in its tracks.

I am slightly taken aback as I don’t understand when she would have seen my lingerie. Then I remember Lucas mentioned she found my bra in the laundry room.

My head turns away and slightly flushes red. I never thought I would be speaking with her about this.

“I am not having this conversation,” I mutter to myself in disbelief.

Sofia places a hand on mine on the table. “You should go to Veronica at the boutique on fifth. She always has the most beautiful things. Go, it will be my treat.”

I nearly spit out my tea. Clearing my throat, I say, “I am not going lingerie shopping with you. I’ve known you my whole life and you are Lucas’s mother.” I always knew she was open and not afraid to say things, but this is uncomfortable. Although, it will forever be imprinted in my head as a great story to share.

“Okay. But really, go every few months to pick out something special. My son will love it.” She brings her shoulders up to her ears in delight.

I shake my head into my hand.

“Sure,” is all I manage to say.

Lucas arrives at my place and quickly walks me into my room where he pushes me on the bed and tugs my jeans off before relentlessly going down on me. The mere feeling of his lips nearly touching my thighs sends tickles to all points in my body. Creating heat in me and spilling thick silk between my legs.

“Lucas, I am going to come if you don’t stop,” I moan as my body arches up to his mouth, but his hands push my thighs down to get a better angle. His tongue is coated in my juices as he slides it up and down my sex. Hitting my clit perfectly on every stroke.

“I want you to come on my face,” he mumbles against my skin. My hands fist his hair as I let my body cede to him.

My loud O escapes my mouth as I begin to spasm around him and energy spirals to my core. Leaving me to shudder then shake. His gorgeous grin greets my eyes when I finally manage to look down as his head slithers up my body with a goofy look, because I know he is proud of his work. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, and that sight makes me yearn more for him, as it is so damn sexy.
