Diving in Deep (Bay State University #2)(7)
Author: Katie Holland

“Hi,” I said. “Are you single?”

I always got right to the point. I wanted nothing to do with a guy that was already taken.

He smiled at me. “Hi yourself,” he said. “Yes I am. What’s your name, beautiful?”

“Karma. What’s yours?”

“Steve.”

“Well, Steve, wanna dance?” I said, and started moving my hips to the music.

“Sure,” he said, so I took his hand and led him to the makeshift dance floor.

A few songs later I was thirsty, so I went to find some water. I wasn’t drinking tonight, and it would be a long time before I did again. Steve followed me and helped me find the kitchen. Turned out this was his frat house, so he was really helpful. Some guy started talking to him so I left to see who else I could find to dance with.

Three guys and a bunch of songs later, I needed another water. I was on my way back across the room when someone grabbed my arm. I almost punched them until I saw it was Bodie.

“Fuck Bodie, you’re lucky you’re still standing,” I told him.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

“You shouldn’t go around grabbing women’s arms. You almost got throat punched.”

He started laughing. “I remember something similar happening to Major last year. You girls sure took self-defence seriously.”

“If we didn’t Kayleigh’s grandma would have tanned our hides,” I told him.

“I could see that.”

“So, what did you want anyway?” I asked him.

“Wondering if you wanted to dance?”

“Really?”

“Yes really.”

“I thought you were avoiding me,” I said.

“Maybe I was, a little, but now I’m not.”

“Men,” I mumbled to myself. “Sure, Bodie, let’s dance.”

I wasn’t sure what he was up to, but I loved to figure things out, and right now Bodie was just another puzzle for me to solve. That, and he was ridiculously hot. I rubbed my body against his in time with the music. If he wanted to dance, I was going to show him everything I had.

Bodie

I must be a sucker for punishment. I should be staying as far away from Karma as I could, not asking her to dance. But I couldn’t back out now or she’d know something was up. She may come across as ditzy sometimes, but I knew it was an act. She was smart or wouldn’t be here on a scholarship, sports related or not.

The feel of her body against mine was almost too good. I kept flashing back to the night we spent together, and it was making my dick twitch. She turned around and started grinding her ass against my crotch and I couldn’t hide my reaction to her.

When she turned around again, the smug smile on her face told me she was fully aware of the effect she was having on me. I tried to put some distance between us, but she wouldn’t let me. When the song was over, she took my hand and dragged me off the dance floor and then outside.

“Where’s your car?” she asked me.

“Do you need me to take you home?”

“No. Where’s your car?” she repeated.

Karma was going to drive me crazy. “Over there,” I said, pointing to the end of the block.”

“Okay, let’s go.”

She started walking and I followed her. I had no idea what she wanted. I unlocked it when we got there and to my surprise she got in the back.

“Get in,” she said, poking her head out the door.

I started to go around to the driver’s side when she yelled, “No, back here.”

I rolled my eyes, but got in the back with her.

“What the fuck, Karma,” I yelled, when she reached for my jeans and started to unbutton them.

“I noticed it was a little tight in there and I thought I could help,” she said smiling.

“Are you fucking crazy?” I said, trying to shoo her hands away.

“No,” she said laughing. “You should see the look on your face. You look like a virgin on prom night.”

“I do not,” I protested. “You just took me by surprise. What are you even doing anyway?”

“I was trying to help a friend out, but it looks like that’s not necessary now,” she said, with a grin.

“Whatever,” I mumbled. “You’re something else, you know that, right?”

“I know. Some people can’t handle me. I thought you could.”

Karma grinned and got out of the car. I watched her walk back to the party. Actually, I was watching her ass sway back and forth in the tight dress she had on. A minute later, I was out of the car and back at the party.

I tried not to notice her, but she was hard not to look at. Every single guy in the place watched her as she walked past them. She had a commanding personality and was gorgeous. I didn’t blame anyone for noticing her.

“Whatcha doing?” Chad said, from beside me.

“You scared the shit outta me, man,” I told him.

He chuckled. “So, I repeat, what are you doing? I thought you’d have your dick buried in some hot chick by now.”

“I’m trying to figure out Karma,” I said, without thinking.

“Huh? Karma? What?”

“I mean, Kayleigh asked me to keep an eye on her tonight, so I was trying to figure out what she was up to,” I lied.

“Oh yeah, that makes sense. From what I understand, she jumps from guy to guy like we do women.”

I wanted to get mad at him for saying that, but I guess it was the truth. What Karma said to me the other night at dinner came back to me, double standard. She was right. People would call her a slut for having sex with so many different guys but high five her if she was a man.

“Yeah,” was all I said back to him.

“Well, I’m going to find me some pussy for the night. See ya.”

He slapped me on the back and left.

As the night wore on, a few women tried to get my attention, but I was too busy watching Karma. She danced with guy after guy but didn’t really seem that into any of them. I was actually relieved when I saw her leaving with Kayleigh and Major. Then I was kicking myself for thinking that. What Karma did wasn’t any of my business and I needed to remember that.

Chapter 6

Karma

Saturday morning’s practice was brutal. We had a meet next weekend and Coach Everett was making sure we would win it. After four hours, I was so ready to leave the pool. Kayleigh looked the same when I saw her in the locker room.

“I knew I shouldn’t have stayed out so late last night,” she said, with a yawn. “Greenfield College must be really tough this year for the coaches to be pushing us so hard.”

“No shit. I thought Coach Everett was going to have a stroke at the way we were all “underperforming” today,” I said using air quotes.

Kayleigh giggled at me and I had to smile back.

“Hey ladies,” Gabbi said, when she walked in the locker room. “I’m wiped, how about you two?”

“We’re both ready for a nap I think,” I told her, and Kayleigh agreed.

“Me, too,” Gabbi said with a smile.

“Hey, are you busy tonight?” I asked, remembering our plans for later.
