Love Letters Lost (Suspenseful Seduction World)(18)
Author: Miranda Lynn

I unlocked the front door and turned before going in. “I don’t think that would be a good idea. If Jason drives by and notices your truck in my driveway, it might incite him further.”

“You think I care about that? It’s not safe for you to be here by yourself while he is still out there. He’s right; while that badge is still on his chest, he can pretty much do what he wants in this town. Until we can get that taken away, you need extra protection.”

“I can call Kendra to come and stay with me. He won’t try anything if I have company.” As much as I wanted Brian, and my body screamed to let him in, I didn’t trust myself to have him around me. I watched his emotions flow in his eyes. I knew he wanted to force his way in, but he wouldn’t.

“Lock every window and door. I’ll only be a phone call away. I won’t be far, but I’ll be hidden. He won’t even know I’m around if he decides to give you any shit.”

“Thank you, but you don’t need to do that. Having Kendra over should keep him away. For tonight at least. Tomorrow, I’ll figure out where to go. I can’t stay in this town with him.” I raised up on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. “Good night, Brian.”

He grabbed me around my waist and dragged me against him. His lips slowly descended to mine, his eyes scanning my face, giving me time to say stop. I didn’t, allowing myself to fall into his body and accept the kiss. My body lit up with electricity as his teeth nibbled my lips, his tongue darting out along the seam of my mouth, seeking entrance. I opened for him, sighing as he took charge. His right hand delved into my hair, cradling my head before grasping a handful of hair and tilting my head to his liking, taking the kiss deeper.

I felt the evidence of his desire grow against my stomach, and it spurred me on to take the kiss deeper. My touch affected him as much as his did me. He stepped back, breaking the trance, and my body leaned toward him before my brain kicked in. We both stood there, breathing heavily and wanting more.

“This isn’t over between us, but it is on hold until we can deal with Jason.” Brian steadied me before stepping down onto the walkway. “Lockup, and call me if anything is off. Otherwise, I’ll see you in the morning, and we will figure out how to move forward.”

I could only nod my head, still in a lust-filled haze, as I watched him return to his truck. He waited for me to enter and close the door behind me before cranking the engine and backing out of the drive. I knew he wouldn’t go far, and if I called, he would be here in seconds.

I called Kendra as I kicked off my shoes. She was happy to come and keep me company, allowing us to catch up. I started a pot of coffee and took out a chilled bottle of wine. I had a tray of cheese and crackers sitting on the coffee table alongside two wine glasses and the bottle of wine by the time I heard a knock on the door. I checked the peephole and found Kendra standing on my doorstep. I removed the security chain and unlocked the door, letting her in.

“Look who I found on my way here.” She smiled as she walked in, Jason right behind her.

It took all I had to leave Genevieve alone. I circled the block a few times before picking a spot down the street beneath a darkened streetlight. I had a clear view of her front door, but the dark shade of my truck helped me blend in with my surroundings. I settled in for a long night of surveillance. She may not want me in the house with her, but I’d be damned if I didn’t keep an eye on her anyway.

I watched her friend Kendra turn the corner in my review mirror, her blonde hair reflecting the light from each streetlamp she walked by. Knowing Genevieve did as I asked eased my conscience a bit. At least someone would be with her tonight. I would rather it be me, though, and my body agreed with me. Just the possibility of spending a night with her in her room, in her bed, set my nerves on end. My fingers itched to touch her, tease her, show her how good it would be between us. My hand throbbed with the promise of turning her plump ass a bright shade of red before soothing her and sending her flying again.

I shook my head, trying to clear it for the task ahead. I checked Kendra’s progress in my review mirror again and sat up when I saw she wasn’t alone. “Fuck!” Jason had joined her, and by her body language and animated hands, he was pouring on the charm.

I yanked out my phone and hit the speed dial.

“Bro, what is it now? Can’t control the little minx?” Brody’s laughter grated on my nerves.

“I have a situation,” I spoke low.

“Tell me.” Brody became all business.

I gave him the run-down of what happened at lunch and the fact Jason was now escorting Genevieve’s friend to her house. I watched as they passed and sauntered up her driveway. Jason turned and looked right at me as Genevieve opened the door for them.

“Stay on him. Don’t let him out of your sight.” The clack of keys on Brody’s computer echoed in my ear.

“Switching you to hands-free.” I quietly exited my truck and made my way through the shadows to the side of Genevieve’s house. Through the living room window, the glow of the lamps highlighted those inside.

“What do you see, brother?” Brody’s typing had stopped.

“Nothin’ happenin’ yet. They’re all sittin’ around havin’ a glass of wine and eatin’ some cheese and crackers. Jesus, what the hell is his game?” My muscles were coiled with anticipation, ready to spring into action if needed.

“I’ve got Omega Team on call if you need us, brother—the jet’s fueled and ready to go at a moment’s notice. Carter is still workin’ the Fed side, tryin’ to dig up his files. As soon as we get those, we can turn them over along with his location and let them take over.” Brody’s team was the best in the private security business, made up of former Navy SEALs, Black Ops, and others that were never even on a government list anywhere. I didn’t know all the details, only that if there was a hairy situation, they could always find a way out.

“I don’t know if we have time to wait, Brody. My gut’s tellin’ me he’s gonna try to take her tonight.” I watched as Jason moved to the couch next to Genevieve, and she stood and walked to the kitchen, bringing back another tray with coffee mugs and a thermos. She sat back down in the chair Jason had vacated. “Good girl,” I whispered.

“Roger that. I’ll do what I can to move things along. Call me if anything changes. Don’t worry, brother, we’ll remove this jackhole. Then you can sweep your girl off her feet, tie her up, and show her who’s boss.”

I smiled as the line went silent. I had every intention of doing that and much more after we put Jason where he belonged. My heart swelled, knowing Brody had my back. We only saw each other a couple times a year now since he had moved to Florida, joined Trident Security, and recently married his submissive, Fancy. Family reunions were the only time we really had together, and that was among dozens and dozens of family members.

I settled in for the night in the shadow of the porch where I could keep the front window and also part of the back yard in my line of vision. It wasn’t the ideal spot as there were still locations where someone could evade my watch coming or going, but as long as Genevieve was in my sight, I had to make do the best I could.
