Saving Ryder(52)
Author: Jane Blythe

Unfortunately, that hadn’t happened, but now he had her back, and he knew that his old team was on her heels, this time he would crush her before selling her off to Perez as payment for the use of some of his men.

Or perhaps he would keep Abigail for himself. He could always pay off Perez some other way.

Deciding he had waited long enough for Abigail to wake up, the drugs should have worked their way out of her system by now, and she should have regained consciousness, Alex walked over to where she lay on the floor of the cell and delivered a swift kick to her ribs.

Abigail grunted and rolled over, pressing her chest toward the cold, stone floor since her arms were tied behind her back and she was unable to use them to protect herself, confirming his suspicions that she had only been pretending to be out cold.

“Open your eyes, Abby, I don’t like games,” Alex said as he pressed a foot down on her back between her shoulder blades, causing her to hiss in a pained breath.

“No?” she gritted out as he pressed harder against her back. “Isn’t that the whole reason you kidnapped me—twice—because you wanted to play games with your old team?”

Alex tossed back his head and laughed, got to love a woman with spunk and Abigail had it in spades. “Touché, Abs, touché.”

Removing his foot, he strolled across the cell and dropped down into a chair, studying the woman before him. Although her wrists were bound behind her back, and her ankles were also bound, she managed to wriggle herself over onto her back then up into a sitting position. Alex knew she had to be hurting, but when her eyes met his they practically shot sparks of fire at him.

“You going to tell me you don’t know why I’m here?” he asked.

“What would be the point in that? You know that I told Ryder and Eric that you’re the one who kidnapped me, and you know that they told me about how you got kicked out of the SEALs for beating up your girlfriend and working as hired muscle for a drug cartel. We know you took me as bait and you know that the guys are going to follow me here.”

“Want to know what I’m going to do to them when they get here?” he asked excitedly. He’d never been a patient man and waiting nearly two years to get his revenge had been hard. Hard but necessary. If he’d gone after the men on American soil he would never have achieved his goal, so he’d been forced to learn patience, but now that his time had almost come he was bubbling with excitement like a soda someone had shaken up.

“You’re going to kill them,” Abigail said, shifting slightly to rest against the wall and wincing at the movement.

“Eventually,” he agreed, “but not before I make them suffer. I’ll let them watch as my men beat you, torture you a little, and then when you can’t scream anymore I’ll slit their throats.”

“Ryder will kill you first,” she said.

“Will he now?” Alex stretched back in his chair, crossing his legs and folding his hands in his lap, watching as confusion warred with distrust on her pale face.

“You know he will,” Abigail said.

“But will it be because he and his team are angry I got out of the country, or because of you?”

Her brow furrowed. “What do you mean?”

“I know the story,” he said conversationally. “He took your virginity when you were only eighteen then left you. Came back when you were finished college but only lasted a year before leaving you again. Don’t you find it odd that when he had something to gain from sticking close to you, he came crawling back?”

Her eyes widened, but then promptly narrowed. “Ryder explained why he left.”

“Maybe. But not why he came back.”

“He didn’t even know you were behind my abduction until my memories came back.”

“So he says.”

Abigail opened her mouth and then snapped it closed again. “Why would he do that? If he knew it was you he could have gone after you, there was no need to suck up to me to do it.”

“Actually, there was.”

She arched a brow.

“Suck up to you, get it?” Alex laughed at his own joke. “Sex, Abigail, maybe he was just using you for sex while knowing all along you were going to lead him straight to me.”

“Ryder wouldn’t do that.” She huffed, but he saw the glimmer of doubt hidden deep in her amazing eyes.

“He’s a man, isn’t he? And you’re smoking hot, trust me, darling, there isn’t much a man like him wouldn’t do to get in the pants of a woman like you.”

“What do you mean a man like Ryder? Ryder is a good man.”

“He’s a SEAL, and SEALs like women. Lots of women,” he added.

“Is that why you became a SEAL, to sleep with lots of women?” Abigail looked disgusted by the possibility and that sent anger flaring through him.

“You think your boyfriend is any better?” he sneered, stalking over to stand above her. “He dumped you didn’t he? Twice. But when it suited him he made nice to get in your pants. I’ll tell you what I don’t understand, I don’t understand why when I was going down on you all you did was cry, and yet when he does it you scream in ecstasy. Okay, so I dosed you up with Rohypnol because I wanted you to think that you were in that cage the whole time, needed to isolate you to break you, but there was no way I could stay away from this body.”

Alex crouched in front of her and ran a hand down her chest. She shied away from him, and he could see the terror in her eyes, the tears threatening to spill out. He’d just dropped a bombshell on her, and the fear on her face had him growing hard.

“I didn’t have sex with you before because I wanted to make more money off you when I sold you to Perez, but you know what?”

Wide eyes just stared up at him.

He swung a fist, connected with her jaw. “I asked you a question. You know sometimes that stubborn streak of yours is just plain annoying. This time I’m not holding back, this time, I’m going to take what I want from you and if Perez doesn’t like it then maybe I’ll kill him too. Women, power, and money, it’s all a guy really needs anyway.” Grasping her chin between his thumb and forefinger, hard enough to make her flinch, Alex leaned in close. “Maybe I’ll wait until your boyfriend and the team get here before taking you. I bet Spider would love to watch me do his girl.”

Alex leaned in, intending to kiss her, but she slammed her bound legs up, connecting with his manhood.

Screaming in pain he tumbled sideways, clamping his thighs together in an effort to ease the pounding agony.

“That’s what I think of that, Alex,” Abigail snarled. “Ryder loves me, and when he and my brother and the rest of the guys get here it’s going to be you who’s sorry. You’re a sorry excuse for a SEAL, a sorry excuse for a man, a sorry excuse for a human being.”

Anger shoved aside the pain and Alex staggered to his feet. “You aren’t going to like the consequences of your actions, little girl,” he sneered.

5:00 P.M.

Okay, so taunting the man who had orchestrated her abduction twice, and currently had her tied up and in what she thought was the same cell where he had previously tortured her probably wasn’t her smartest move, but it felt so good.
