“I can survive anything as long as I'm with you,” he told her as he played with the ends of her hair that was lying against her exposed breast. “Anything.”
“I think that's a good idea,” she murmured. “I've accepted a job.”
“What job?” he asked with a frown.
“Don’t worry, darling. I'll be working from home from now on. I've agreed to edit a couple of books and I promise that it won't interfere in my taking care of our son. Nothing comes before you and LJ.”
“You're going to insist on calling him that, aren’t you?” he asked in resignation.
“That’s right.” She bent and kissed his hair roughened jaw. “It’s easier.”
“Luke is just one syllable,” he reminded her drily.
“But so hard to say,” she told him teasingly as she hopped off the bed.
“Where are you going?”
“To check on our son. I'm still not used to him sleeping the entire night.”
“Baby the monitor is right there! Oh, who am I kidding?” He swung his legs off the bed and putting on a robe, went with her.

Eight months later…
“She's so beautiful!” Amy whispered as she cradled the two day old baby in her arms while keeping an eye on her son crawling along the carpet. She'd driven over as soon as she heard that both mother and daughter had come home from the hospital. Both Mason and Lance were in the living room, drinking scotch by the fire and having a conversation. The two had gotten closer over the months and had struck up a comradery that they owed to the women in their lives.
“Rebecca Amy Billings,” Rosemarie said softly, with a content look on her face. “Our children are going to be so close.”
Both women looked up as their husbands came into the room.
“A storm is brewing, darling. I think we had better take out leave,” Lance said as he walked over to pluck his son from the floor and lifted him high in the air, causing the boy to squeal in laughter.
“I'll see you on the weekend Rosie.” Amy surrendered the baby to Mason and went to kiss Rosie on her cheek.
“Thanks for coming,” Mason said with a smile.
Lance buckled his son carefully into his car seat before going into the driver’s seat. He didn't drive off immediately but turned to look at his wife.
“What?”
“I love you.”
“I know.” She leaned over and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I love you to the moon and back, darling.”
