Possessed by Passion(396)
Author: Bella Emy

They stood there, staring at each other, with a tension between them so thick that a piece of thread pulled tightly could just cut through it. Lizzie’s hand shook slightly as she debated inwardly whether or not she should be the one to cross the line and approach him. War waged deep within her, and she knew the same war waged within Miles. Their original mission was the last thing on their minds at the moment.

Miles swallowed hard, and Lizzie watched his Adam's apple bounce up and down; suddenly, she couldn’t take it anymore. As she stepped towards him, he took a step towards her, and they met in the middle. Her arms were sliding around his neck as his hands held her face, pulling her up towards him. Their lips were interlocking in a passionate kiss, their tongues instantly probing for each other, sliding over each other. The heat of each other’s body permeated the air, and it felt as though the room had become humid. Lizzie pressed her body against Miles shamelessly, and Miles let go of her face to circle his arms around her and hold her against him. They both shook with desire.

Lizzie moaned deeply as Miles slowly pulled away from her and stood straight, looking down at her with his steely blue eyes searching.

“We can’t,” he murmured.

Lizzie swallowed, her lips dry. “We have, though.”

“We can’t; we have a mission. I have a mission,” Miles said.

Lizzie’s shoulders drooped slightly in disappointment and Miles shook his head.

“Fuck,” he tilted her head up, “Don’t look so damn disappointed; it’ll kill me.”

He leaned forward and kissed her hungrily again, and she stood on her tiptoes to get as close to him as she physically could. Miles reached down with both hands, cupped Lizzie under her ass, and lifted her onto to the table effortlessly so she was higher up where he could kiss her at a more comfortable angle. He broke the kiss again, but this time to kiss down her ear, her chin, and into her neck, and Lizzie gladly tipped her head to the side to receive his affection.

They both startled when Miles’ phone suddenly rang, and Miles took a step back, coughing. Lizzie blushed and giggled, and he gave her a wry smile as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. His smile soon disappeared as he saw who was calling, and Lizzie stared at him curiously.

“Hi, Christian,” Miles said, and Lizzie understood his reaction. “No, now is a good time. Yes, I’m actually with her now. I came to check on the wound she sustained yesterday.” He paused as he listened to Christian. “Got it; we’ll meet you there.” He hung up and let out a deep breath.

“He wants us to meet him for another hunt, this time with a bigger group of Angels. They were impressed with how we handled yesterday, and today we’ll be going after a higher group of Demons. A cluster, he called it. Possibly with some Balancers.” Miles shivered slightly and swallowed.

Lizzie slid off the table and straightened her clothes. “I’ll get changed then you...uh...finish your coffee.”

“Lizzie, we should talk about this,” Miles said, reaching for her hand as she walked past.

“I like where we left it,” she said, looking up at him. “It was unexpected, and I know we need to talk, but I like where we left it. Let’s keep it there for now. In a happy place.”

Miles nodded and pulled her to him for a quick kiss before he whispered, “We shouldn’t be doing this, but I want to, is all I wanted to say.”

Lizzie smiled and tried not to giggle again. “Happy place,” she repeated before walking to the bedroom to change. When she shut the door, she wanted to jump in the air and scream. She hadn’t felt this way about someone, well, ever and he DID feel the same way about her. She knew they’d have a long battle ahead of them, but she was just excited right now with how they felt about each other.

Chapter Thirteen

Miles

His heart raced in his chest as he watched her walk to her room. He wanted to go after her and throw her on her bed and do unimaginable things to her, things that kept his heart racing. He took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. He hadn’t smoked in years, but he wished he could have one now, just to take the edge off of how he was feeling. It was a filthy habit, one he hadn’t missed until now.

He could still taste her, the sweetness of her in his mouth. He shook his head. He had to stop thinking about her. He needed to concentrate on the task at hand. They were going back into the battlefield, and he needed to have his wits about him.

He was happy, though, filled with joy that she felt the same way that he felt about her. When he had become a Balancer, he had renounced emotions, but with the conversion to Angel, it seems something inside of him had been unlocked. He could feel again, and what he felt for her was indescribable.

The door to her room opened, and she walked out, dressed in leather pants and a leather corset. He would have taken her right there, stripped them of their clothes, and made love to her without letting her take a step further if they weren’t on a schedule. He cleared his throat.

“You look entirely inappropriately sexy,” he scolded her, smiling.

Lizzie grinned up at him. “Are you ready to do this again?”

“Which part?” he murmured, bringing his lips within inches of hers.

She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips against his, and they kissed again, but this time it was brief before she pulled away.

“We should go before they get suspicious.”

She turned and led him out of the apartment; he gladly followed. Once they were out of the building, he willed his wings out, and she stepped up to him, sliding her arms around his neck and pressing her body against his. He slipped his arms around her waist and held her tightly against him as he took flight.

It didn’t take them long to reach the warehouse where Christian, Jay, and some other Angels were waiting outside. Miles landed and let go of Lizzie. They walked together towards their group, and Miles shook Jay’s hand.

“Alright, Miles?” he asked.

Miles nodded. “Just fine, what’s the situation?”

“The one we captured yesterday tipped us off for today’s raid. There’s a group of Demons inside this warehouse, as well as a Balancer. We need to kill all the Demons and take the Balancer alive.”

“I thought Balancers were off-limits?” Lizzie asked innocently, although Miles now knew she was anything but.

Christian chuckled. “We’re at war, Lizzie, the rules of the game have changed.”

Lizzie nodded, and they lined up at the door for instructions.

“Lizzie, you go with the first group; Miles, you go with the second, and we’ll meet up on the other side of the warehouse. Whoever finds the Balancer, secure him and bring him there for Jay and I to take back to Headquarters,” Christian explained.

Everyone agreed, and Miles looked at Lizzie, worried about splitting from her. She gave him a small nod, letting him know it was okay before she went off with her group of Angels. Miles followed Christian into the warehouse, and they took a hallway to the right. It was silent in the building, aside from the sound of rats scuttling through the ceiling, and it was dark. Miles kept his guard up as they walked, his blade already summoned to his hand. He was just wondering if the Demon had been lying to them when they rounded a corner and came across two Demons playing cards. The two orange Hell beasts got up quickly and summoned their weapons. One ran backwards while the other squared off to the Angels.
