Possessed by Passion(428)
Author: Bella Emy

“You know what?”

“I know he’s not my father.” I sighed.

“How?”

“You think I couldn’t hear the two of you? Lela doesn’t know how to be quiet half the time.”

“So why didn’t you say anything?”

“Because. She’s going to either tell me the truth or not. But either way, this will show me her true character.”

His hand slipped down to my leg.

“I’m sorry.”

I shook my head trying hard to fight the urge to pull him into a kiss.

“It’s okay. We should get some research done though.”

He nodded and pulled back.

Chapter Six

Theo

I woke up the next morning to Kass next to me. Both of us were still dressed, but I noticed I was in her room, not my own.

“Morning.” Lela laughed standing at the bottom of the bed.

“Morning.” I sat up and stretched my arms out.

“So, you sleep good?” she smiled.

“I guess I was just too tired to make it back to my own room.”

“Well you know, now that you’ve slept in the same bed, you might as well stop booking a separate room.”

“She’s right you know.” Kass said.

“I didn’t even know you were awake.” I jumped back.

“Yeah, well, I am.” She pulled herself into a sitting position.

“Coffee?” Lela handed us each a cup.

“You are up early,” Kass noted.

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“Well, I’m going back to my room to shower and get ready. We should probably check out today and move on. We can’t stay in one place for too long.”

The girls nodded.

“Yep. Alright.” I pulled myself out of bed, slipped my boots back on and headed to my own room.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t find you?” Colton said.

“Colt. What are you doing here?”

“Tracking you per his orders.”

I sighed. Damn it.

“He knows you are working with them, and he’s not happy.”

I set my coffee down and looked at him.

“I can’t help it. And you are supposed to be my best friend, man. What the hell?”

“I never said I was on his side. I’m just saying that per his orders, he wanted someone to track you. I volunteered. If it was anyone else, they would just kill you and move on.”

“So now what?”

“Now you need to fill me in on this grand plan of yours because I don’t understand.”

“I don’t really have one. I was just kind of winging it.”

“Alright well, let’s wing it together. I’ll check in with him every so often. Lead him in a different direction and go from there.”

“You know if you go against him, he’ll kill you.”

He shrugged. “I was getting bored with this life anyways.”

I laughed. “Alright. Well give me a few to shower. The girls are going to flip.” I laughed.

“Who is that?” Kass asked as I walked back into her room with my stuff and another piece of paper.

“Are we doing that burning shit again?” Lela huffed.

“Yes, and this is Colton,” I said breezing past both girls.

“Colt for short. Nice to meet you two.”

“Who is he?” Kass asked walking over to me.

I sighed. “A demon. He’s actually sent by our boss to track me.”

She shook her head. “What?”

“He’s one of my oldest friends. He offered to track me, so another demon didn’t. He’s not a danger to us.”

“Well that’s good because Lela looks like she’s about to drop her pants for him,” I hissed.

“Well at least someone would get some,” I muttered.

“Let’s just burn the damn paper and go.”

I nodded and walked out onto the balcony with her.

We hopped into the car and were off to somewhere, but nowhere at the same time.

“Are we heading south?” Kass questioned.

“Toward New Orleans.”

“Why there?” she questioned.

“Well I figure if we need answers, I know a few people down there who may be able to help.”

“People or monsters?” Lela asked from the back seat.

“Depends on how you define monster.”

“Anyone who isn’t human.”

“Then monsters.” I nodded.

I squeezed the steering wheel tight with determination as I sped up and weaved through traffic.

Lela’s phone rang from the backseat.

“Who is it?” Kass questioned.

“Dad,” she replied in almost a whisper.

“What does he want?” Kass spat.

Lela shrugged. “I’m not answering it though.”

“Can I ask something?” Colt questioned.

“Shoot dude.”

“What happens when you find out the truth about the tattoo? What are you going to do?”

Kass turned in her seat. “I guess I just need to know why I have it. Why me? What is it going to do for me?”

“Okay.”

“Why?”

“Oh, I was just curious on what Theo was throwing his life away for.”

I looked back in the mirror at Colt smirking. This was one of those moments where I wish demons could communicate through our minds like some witches could.

The girls fell asleep about halfway to our destination.

“Want me to drive?” Colt questioned.

I nodded.

“Hey, think we could switch spots without stopping?”

“Um, I don’t know! Let’s try!”

“Alright. Count of three. One, two, Three!”

We both disappeared from our current spot temporarily and then reappeared switched.

Colt grabbed the wheel and kept the car straight.

“That was sick!” he exclaimed.

“Shh!”

I got as comfortable as I could in the small car and let my eyes rest.

“Theo! Nice to see you man.” Colt said.

“Where have you been?” I asked.

“You know, here and there. What about you?”

I shrugged.

“Come on, dude, I know that look.”

“What can I say? I wanted to check in on him.”

“Yeah, but he doesn’t always want help. You know that. After his time with that witch.”

I nodded. “Yeah I know.”

“What did he say?”

“That he wished he stuck around.”

“Well he didn’t.”

I nodded.

I opened my eyes and looked around. It was lighter out then.

“Morning. Or sort of morning.” Kass smiled looking at me.

“Morning.”

“I don’t remember when you guys switched last night.”

“Yeah, we didn’t want you girls to wake up.”

“Can we stop soon though?” Kass asked.

“Of course.” Colt smiled from the driver’s seat.

He took the next exit, and we pulled into the first diner we saw.

“I’m going to go make a phone call. I’ll meet you all inside.”
