Here Loves a Sociopath (Here Lies #3)(50)
Author: C.L. Matthews

I’m betting the bombshell that his adopted sister is really Colt’s biological sister must be fucking with his head.

“She’s at the Estate,” Colt comments, unwilling to share more info. “I just want to make sure I get her out, even if that means going undercover.”

“You’re not going undercover,” Lux interrupts. “It’s too dangerous.”

“It’s too dangerous,” Colt mocks, and I sputter out a laugh, unable to help the humor in how everyone tries controlling her. “She doesn’t deserve to live a life where she’s fighting constantly.”

“They don’t know anything, she’s safe.”

“Know what?” Ross asks and Colt clams up.

“Are we almost there?” I pop in, knowing that the more questions Ross asks, the more dangerous the situation becomes.

“Two hours,” the driver recites, speaking for the first time this entire trip.

“What about what happened when they took you?” Ridge deflects the conversation. “Did they mention if the League actually showed up? What exactly happened?”

Ross runs a hand through his hair. “I was going to delete the videos of where any of us were in compromising positions.” Lux looks at Colt and Ridge’s jaw tightens. All while I know all the times I’d fucked around with Lux, it was when we weren’t in school.

   Ross

I avoid telling them that Justice practically admitted to wanting my dick, knowing that now wasn’t the time for a joke. Even if jabbing at Lux, letting him know how others could easily fuck me is something I’ll use to jab at him later.

“They say they kidnapped me to make it look like someone other than us was deleting footage.”

“Smart,” Ridge muses, but something in his expression has me questioning his one-word response.

“Smart, my ass,” I complain. He doesn’t understand that they could’ve gone so many ways about what they wanted, yet they knocked me out and then acted like it was a ploy. There’s a few hours missing from my head. I don’t know where we were hotel-wise, but for some reason, I feel like that might’ve been good information to look for when we left. “They hit me over the head with a gun. It was unnecessary.”

“Wait, what about the gunshots?” Lux brings up, directing his question to me.

“They shot twice, then set up the scene, slicing open my palm.” Or so they said… there’s that missing gap, and while we mostly discussed little things over our time when they were actually at the hotel and not leaving me alone, everything made me super suspect. Colt turns my palm over, inspecting the lack of bandage. Plain as day, my hand is all gnarly-looking.

“After we got to wherever the fuck we were, they tied me up in the bathroom with duct tape, thinking I’d attack them when I woke up. They’re right, I wanted to kill them both.” My throat feels dry and I see a water bottle beside Colt, reaching for it in the next breath. They wait as I drink the water. Sucking in a breath, I tread on, needing to get the rest off my chest. It sucks, knowing they could’ve done stupid shit while I’d been under. What if they used my blood for that fucking crime scene at Arcadia? What if they told everyone I was dead and then forced me to hide?

“We had an argument that went nowhere.” I skip the details about the taunting and little dumbass jokes. I even skimp out on the fact that Justice got hard when I was on his lap.

Colt giggles, and I realize it’s because she either thinks that means we fucked it out or beat each other up.

“Did you kiss him?” she asks, laughing again.

“No, Colty, but I did choke him while Pru watched.”

   “Kinky,” she teases. Unfortunately, no.

“That is until they told me Colt is a Grim,” I ignore her taunt, directing that at the rest of the guys.

No one gasps, or acts surprised, and that has me popping my knuckles, wanting to know why the fuck this isn’t news to them. “You all already know, what the fuck.”

“It’s not news anymore, Rossy. Just keep going,” Colt encourages me, gripping my face.

“I’d surmised that Cass was killed because of that lineage. They let me know that our fathers,” I gesture to everyone, “collectively decided they wanted reform. More power and money. More control spanning further than Arcadia.”

I pause and they wait. My mind keeps reeling on the conversation. How they mentioned my dad being involved and Midas, of course. But even Ten’s dad is weird to be in the mix.

Peering at Ten, he avoids my direct gaze and it has me nervous. Is he still mad about what happened? Or rather, what didn’t happen…

My body heats at the thought. The attraction I have for him hasn’t waned even a little. He’s still attractive and hot as fuck when he’s naked and beneath me.

“And?” Ridge prods, bringing me back from my mini daydream.

   “They asked about Colt.”

“What about me?” Her voice is smaller. It’s not news the twins fucked her and left her. Much like me and the other fucks in this vehicle. But her bond with the twins was almost reminiscent of before. She had a connection to them right off the bat and it was crazy to think they’d use that and hurt her.

They don’t have to explain to us or even say sorry for being dicks. Their apologies need to go to her. Hell, we all have so much to make up for. Even the stuff she can’t remember us doing as kids.

“They mentioned your lost memories…” I trail off, not sure if they’ve had a conversation about this.

“Oh, that. Yeah, they’re gone.” The way she says it so plainly bothers me. She’s uncaring, almost indifferent. Wouldn’t she want them back? Hell, knowing she knows, doesn’t it eat her up, knowing parts of Cass have been erased from her mind? Especially the times she disappeared for the summer… does she worry about that loss too?

“They knew they were lost,” I confirm. “They wanted to know why.” Even I do. Why take her away for months at a time? The only people she didn’t forget were Cass and her moms. Even then, Cass said she forgot important details but seemed to be attached to him like normal.

“Don’t we all,” Lux says bitterly. It’s rhetorical. Glancing at the faces of everyone in this car, I can see that we’re all curious as to what they did with her when she was gone, and why her and not Cass.

“After that, we hung out for a few days while you guys figured out shit. Honestly, I don’t think they planned on bringing me back soon, but Justice and Pru were talking and I got the tail end of it,” I quickly describe.

“Is that where they mentioned killing someone?” Ridge asks.
