Up in Smoke (Hotshots #4)(29)
Author: Annabeth Albert

“Fucking hell.” Releasing Shane’s hair, Brandt hauled him up next to him. “No way are you convincing me that was your first.”

“Beginner’s luck?” Shane grinned at him before grabbing one of the lemonade glasses and taking a healthy swallow.

“Taste that bad?” Brandt laughed, pulling him close enough to kiss, but pausing right before their lips touched.

“Nah. Different. Not bad.” Sex was weird. He’d been desperate to taste it right before Brandt came, but then after, it was less turn-on and more odd, the lingering flavor. But then Brandt was kissing him, and he was less about dissecting the experience and more acutely aware that he was still painfully turned on.

“Okay to touch?” Brandt palmed him through his jeans, fingers already messing with Shane’s belt.

“Please.” Like Shane was gonna stop him, not when he was this hard and aching, but he appreciated the ask.

“I got you.” Brandt withdrew Shane’s cock, big grip different from Shane’s. Rougher. Callouses in different spots. More active thumb. Different. And so fucking amazing that he had to groan.

“Damn.” He shut his eyes as he let his head fall onto Brandt’s shoulder. “That’s good.”

“Yeah, you were. Fuck. Not sure I’ve ever shot so hard.”

Shane had to laugh around a moan at how his cock pulsed at each bit of praise.

“Your mouth is so sweet.” Brandt found his lips for another kiss, one that left Shane trembling, right on the edge. Ordinarily, he liked being the one in charge of a kiss, but here he simply surrendered himself to Brandt, to this kiss, to his strong hands, and his dirty words. “Can’t wait for my turn.”

“Mmm.” The mere thought of Brandt on his knees had Shane moaning. Brandt’s strokes were slow and steady, keeping him riding the edge between almost and too much.

Brandt made a thoughtful noise and loosened his grip. “Maybe...”

“Not...too worked up.” He wasn’t sure Brandt would even get a lick out before he shot, he was that tense with need and want. And as soon as Brandt tightened his fist, his hips started moving, fucking Brandt’s hand, no more waiting.

“Next time.” Brandt laughed and licked Shane’s ear. “Gonna suck you so good. I wanna taste it too.”

“Fuck. Fuck.” Just like that, Shane was coming, head full of thoughts of Brandt’s mouth, him gulping Shane down with the same hunger and enthusiasm he did everything else. His knees wobbled and his vision swam and he wanted the climax to last forever. Finally, he slumped against Brandt.

“That did it, huh?” Brandt chuckled, a certain fondness in his voice that hadn’t been there before. “Image of me blowing you?”

“Smug bastard.” Shane dug his shoulder into Brandt’s chest, mostly because he could, because this felt so damn good. “Like your ego needs the boost.”

“Come on.” Brandt squeezed him tighter before releasing him to tuck his dick back in. He headed to the sink, looking back over his shoulder. “You gotta admit that’s a hell of a use of naptime.”

“Yeah, it is.” Unable to stop his grin, Shane straightened his own clothes. Everything put away, he took another drink of lemonade. The sweet tart flavor was heaven for his dry mouth, and he couldn’t help the happy sound that escaped.

“So, think you’ll be up for more?” Brandt’s voice was casual. Almost too casual, like he was having to work to not sound too eager. Shane liked that thought, liked him invested in this thing.

“Yeah.” He could have been coy and went for a maybe, but he didn’t have it in him, not when he wanted more already. And not just more orgasms, but more of this, bumping shoulders and sharing laughs. And his list of things he wanted to try with Brandt just kept growing. “Bring it on.”

      Chapter Thirteen

Brandt was getting too domesticated. He shifted around in the passenger seat of his SUV as they approached the air base, both trying to wake up and trying to not get to comfortable with this new arrangement.

“Thanks again for letting me have the car.” Shane parked in the back of the lot, same as he had last time. He was more awake than Brandt had expected considering the early hour. The baby was still in her fuzzy sleeper and had dozed back off in her car seat.

“No problem.” The bigger problem was figuring out whether he should give Shane an affectionate goodbye. It had been several days and this thing between them still defied classification. They’d shared a number of superheated make-out sessions and mutual orgasms, but they each slept in their own beds. He supposed that made them roommates-with-benefits, but he also liked Shane far more than a lot of casual hookups. In the end, he settled for squeezing Shane’s knee. “I’ve already told Hartman I need a ride home. Have a good practice.”

“Thanks.” Shane was headed that afternoon to a band rehearsal for the group he was sitting in with that weekend. He wasn’t sure what the parking situation was in the neighborhood where the band met, so Brandt had volunteered the SUV.

“You think the diva is gonna let you get some reps in?” Brandt glanced back at the sleeping baby. She sure was cute snoozing like that, but when she was awake, she had a way of demanding every ounce of attention they both had to give.

“Hey, she likes it when I sing.” Shane’s smile was enough to make Brandt forget where they were, make him bump Shane’s shoulder.

“Maybe you’re okay.” He was undoubtedly more than passable—simply the humming he did around the house showed way more natural ability than Brandt had, that was for sure.

“Yeah, maybe I can carry a tune.” Chuckling, Shane rolled his eyes. “But I asked Tim—that’s the band leader—about bringing her, and he said his girlfriend will be around if I need a hand.”

“That works.” Brandt couldn’t help the frown though. What did Shane know about these people? Had this girlfriend person ever even held a baby? And since when did he become so cautious? He’d never once had the reputation of being nervous.

“Don’t worry.” Shane returned his leg pat. “I’m not letting our girl out of my sight.”

Our. The word was a lot less scary than it would have been two weeks ago. “Good.”

“But right now, you better hurry. We don’t want you in trouble. Jewel needs you employed.”

“I’m on it.” And he was. Head back in the game. He might have savings, but he did love his job, and the baby hadn’t changed his obligations there. He trusted Shane with Jewel, and honestly, he wasn’t sure who he’d trust more. Shane was there in the middle of the night, sometimes even before Brandt. Shane would take good care of her, even with this band gig of his. And how weird was that? Being all proud of Shane for finding himself a chance to sing this weekend.
