A Haunting Midlife (Witching After Forty #3)(25)
Author: Lia Davis

Stiffening, I looked around. “What?”

“What?” Drew raised his eyebrows. “You know, if you’re not ready for this, we can just cuddle,” he suggested and pulled me closer. His voice was a mix of seduction and calm. “I could hold you in my arms, close to my heart.” His deep voice lowered into a rumbling tone, almost a growl. “Press your body against mine, your ass into my crotch, and my arms around your waist.” He pulled me even closer and the evidence of how much he wanted me pressed into my lower stomach.

“Maybe we could, just, uh, cudd…” I lost my train of thought as Drew’s lips lowered against mine. Moaning, I opened my mouth to him, relishing the feel of his tongue slipping into my mouth. “Drew,” I whispered into his mouth. It sounded more like a moan. Oh, geez, did that sound sexy or just weird? The last thing I wanted to sound like was an asthmatic gorilla. Biting off the sound, I pulled back and looked up at Drew with sultry eyes. He’d succeeded in getting my motor revved. I hadn’t put panties on under the gown. If I sat on the bed, I‘d probably get a big damp spot on the back of it.

And I was overthinking everything. Stop thinking, Ava!

In an attempt to not embarrass myself and look sexy, I lowered myself gracefully onto the bed, sort of sideways. But then I needed to scoot over so that Drew could join me. My gown got trapped halfway underneath me as I slid over. It tugged on the top of the gown, and the momentum had already started.

As the gown yanked down and I scooted over and kinda up, the material gave way and my boob popped out. Just… plop. There was my titty.

Drew’s gaze flew straight to it, and the last thing any girl would ever want to happen…did. He laughed.

I scrambled up and tugged the gown straight, then stuffed myself back down into it. “Thanks,” I muttered.

“No, no.” He lowered himself onto the bed beside me. “I wasn’t laughing at you. Actually, I should say, you have a glorious breast. I’d very much like to see the other one. It was just the manner in which it was exposed. I’m sorry, Ava, but it was funny.”

I ducked my head as a blush spread up my chest and neck toward my cheeks. “I suppose it was.”

He scooted closer. “May I?” Trailing a finger along my decolletage, he dipped it under the elastic neckband and tickled the top of my breasts as his lips met mine again.

Shuddering, I arched my back, pressing my breasts against his hand until he dipped his finger lower and stretched the top until both breasts came out.

The material sort of lifted them and tucked them together. I was not complaining about that.

With a low growl, Drew pulled his lips off of mine and lowered his head to one of my rosy, pink buds. And then it disappeared into his mouth, and I lost all sense of reason.

I could’ve sounded like a gorilla birthing her first baby for all I knew as Drew’s hands roamed my body. If he cared one whit about how long the hair between my legs was, he gave zero indication as he found my core and teased it until an orgasm shook through my body.

And it didn’t stop there. After slipping a condom on, he looked deeply into my eyes. “Are you sure?” he whispered.

“Yes,” I exclaimed. “And hurry!” The orgasm hadn’t stopped. It just waned and ebbed, but if he hurried up and—“Oh, yes, just like that!” I yelled in a garbled, strangled voice.

As Drew moved above me, proving his abilities lived up to his looks, another big O came over me as I matched him thrust for thrust. It washed away the guilt about Clay, the nerves about sleeping with the second man I’d ever dated, my trepidation of taking tickets from Luci because that meant trouble in some way or another.

I let go, fully, completely, overwhelmingly, for the first time since I’d opened myself up to my powers. My magic danced through me, enhancing the La Petite Mort until the lights in the room popped and sizzled, and Drew growled at me. Actually growled! “Ava,” he whispered. “Your magic.”

“I know!” I yelled throatily.

As I came down from the extreme climax, all the other stuff tried to crowd back in, the first thought being that though I’d always been supremely satisfied with Clay, it had never been like that. Not even a little bit.

If I didn’t know better, I would’ve thought the world had shifted. But that was silly romance novel kind of stuff.

Chapter Sixteen

With a sigh, I leaned back against Drew after he collapsed beside me. As his chest’s heaving slowed and his breathing regulated, I patted him on the pec. “Wow,” I whispered, trying to calm my rushing heartbeat while also trying to enjoy the happy bliss feeling. “That was… Wow.”

Drew chuckled. “I don’t know about you, but I can honestly say I’ve never had better. Is it like that every time with a witch-necromancer hybrid?”

A soft giggle escaped me. His tone was a mix of let’s do that again and concern for what that level of power could do. I was feeling the same way. “I’ve never had sex with my full powers unlocked. So, I have no idea.” I arched an eyebrow with him. “I’m game to try it a few more times and see, though.”

Drew squeezed me, burying his nose into my hair. “I think your magic broke the lights.”

It was pretty dark in here. “Urgh, I think so. Let me go see if it’s in the hall, too.” I still had my gown on. I just popped my boobs back inside. He’d worn a condom, so no mess to clean up. Nice.

Still, I was barely dressed, so I just stuck my head out into the hallway. Something wasn’t right. “Hey, Drew? Can you come here?”

His voice floated from the other side of the room. “I already know what you’re talking about. Something isn’t right.”

Scrambling down the hall, I knocked hard on Olivia and Sam’s door. Olivia answered in one of Sam’s t-shirts. “What the hell, Ava?”

I pushed inside her room, much to her distress. “Cover your junk, Sam, but it’s nothing I haven’t seen before.”

He was covered from the waist down in the bed and just rolled his eyes at me. “Nice dress,” he replied.

I looked down and realized my headlights were on. Crossing my arms, I looked around their room. “Yep, it’s weird in here, too.”

“What are you…” Olivia’s eyes widened as she looked around. “Oh.”

It wasn’t that my magic had messed up the lights. Everything was dimmed—like the colors were dulled. It was odd.

Drew walked in wearing only his jeans just a few seconds later. “It’s like the whole world has faded,” he said. “What’s going on?”

“Everyone get dressed,” I said. “Let’s go see if we can find anyone on the train who might explain this, ah, lighting situation.”

Drew shrugged and followed me to our room, where we dressed quickly, then met Olivia and Sam in the hallway. “Let’s go toward the dining car,” I suggested.

Drew grabbed my shoulders. “Let me go first.”

“Uh, hon?” I gave him a grateful smile. “I appreciate it, but I’m kinda powerful. Maybe let me go first.”

He cocked his head at me as he mocked me. “Uh, hon? No.”

With that, he turned and led the way into the other car we’d seen earlier. Stubborn man. Well, at least I got to watch his backside as we made our way to the next car. It was a fine backside, after all.
