“And with you.” I clasp his face in my hands, kissing him passionately. “If there was anyone Reeve would have trusted me with, it’s you.” I lower my hands to my lap, threading my fingers through Dillon’s.
“I will always be sad that I never got to know him.”
“And I will always miss him, but this is the way it was supposed to be, Dillon. I truly believe that now.” I’ve given it a lot of thought these past few weeks as we prepared to premiere the movie. I don’t understand why I had to lose Reeve and Lainey, but I do believe it was preordained. In a lot of ways, that makes me so freaking angry, but in other ways it helps me to accept it. “I think I was destined to love Reeve because his fate was already decided. I’m glad he got to experience my love for the short time he was with us. That he got to experience fatherhood and the kind of family he always craved.”
“I’m glad he had you too.” He laughs softly. “Man, I never thought I’d ever say those words, but I can’t be selfish. Not when I get to spend the rest of my life loving you, Easton, Bodhi, and Fleur.”
“Do you think you have room in your heart for one more?” I run my fingers through his hair.
He straightens up, his eyes popping wide. “Do you mean?”
“I’m pregnant again,” I blurt, unable to keep the news in any longer. “I did a test this morning and then another one just to be sure.”
He places his hands on my belly and tears glisten in his eyes. “You have no idea how happy this makes me. Another kid. Yes!” His eyes light up with sheer happiness. “Thank you, sweetheart.” He examines my face carefully. “Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine, apart from being tired, but that’s more than likely down to not sleeping well all week.”
“We should go to bed, but I just need to hold you first.” He reels me into his arms, pressing fierce kisses into my hair as he hugs me close. I melt against him, loving the security and familiarity of being in his embrace. If I’m having a bad day, all I need is a hug from Dillon to make everything all right again. “Thank you, Vivien Grace. Thank you for this life we lead. I never take it for granted. I hope you know that.”
“I know,” I say, fighting a yawn. “And I don’t either. I cherish every day with you and our children.”
Dillon stands, pulling me with him. “Time for bed. It’s been an exhausting day.”
“You can say that again.” I lean my head against his shoulder as his arm slides around my back.
As we walk away, a subtle breeze appears out of nowhere, swirling around me, moving wispy strands of my hair. The strong, sweet fragrance of lavender roses tickles my nostrils even though there are none in this part of our garden. Invisible fingers sweep across my cheek, and I know he’s here. Tears pool in my eyes, but they are happy tears because I know, in my heart and soul, this is Reeve’s way of telling me he will always be with me.
It was never a competition between my loves.
I have loved Reeve and Dillon with my whole heart, and it will forever belong to both of them.
They were always destined to be mine, and I will live out the rest of my days safe in the knowledge they are both with me.
My first love.
And my forever love.

Six months earlier—start of sophomore year in college
“A bunch of us are heading to the frat party later. Want to come with?” Myndi asks as we make our way out of the building on Friday after our last class of the day.
“Thanks for the invite, but I’ve already got plans.”
She smiles knowingly at me, her green eyes twinkling. “Let me guess? With a certain hot, rich, tech nerd who worships the ground you walk on?”
I grin. “Yep. It’s our four-year anniversary, so Dylan is taking me out to dinner to celebrate.”
“Aw, he’s so romantic. You’ve definitely got yourself a good one, Gabby.”
“I know. I’m really lucky to have found my person. I can’t ever imagine my life without him in it.”
Sticking her fingers in her mouth, she makes a gagging sound. Late afternoon sun glints off the red undertones in her hair, highlighting her natural beauty. Myndi’s genuine personality and laid-back manner completes the perfect package. Travis was a damn fool for cheating on her. But it’s most definitely his loss.
