Hard As Steel (Hard For Her #1)(7)
Author: Kate Hunt

I grunt. “Will you please get your fine self on my cock?”

She gives me a deeply flirtatious smile, then lowers herself onto my length. We both draw in deep breaths as she sinks all the way down. When she starts to move her hips, I cup her chin and pull her face down to mine. Our breathing becomes increasingly erratic as we move our bodies together.

“You feel like heaven, Millie.”

“Oh, God,” she moans. “Oh, God. Rex…”

And then we’re both consumed by it, the white-hot pleasure overtaking us both as I erupt inside of her.

Two weeks later—the longest two damn weeks of my life—I finally get the call from the jeweler that Millie’s custom ring is ready to be picked up.

While I want to go straight over to Millie’s and propose the second I have the ring in hand, I want to make it special for her, too. So I email Millie’s sister and run my idea by her.

Addison replies with more exclamation points than I can count.

The following day, when I stop by Fizz & Glow, Millie is surprised to see me. But she’s even more surprised when she learns I’m whisking her away for the rest of the day.

“But…what about…” Millie looks from me to her sister.

“Just go, silly,” Addison says.

From the shop, I take Millie to all the places we’ve gone on dates. We don’t actually go see a ballet or play mini-golf. But at every location I bring her to, I tell her how I fell for her even more when we were there.

And then, after we’ve visited every place we’ve gone on a date, I bring her to the most scenic place I can think of—the park up on the hill that looks out over everything.

When we’ve reached the perfect spot, I get down on one knee and pull Millie’s ring out of my pocket.

“Marry me, Mil—” I cut myself off. Have I learned nothing? I start again. “Will you marry me, Millie? Will you make me the happiest man in the world and be my wife?”

“I will,” Millie says, half-laughing and half-crying. I slide the ring onto her finger and pull her toward me for a kiss—a kiss that has never felt more whole.

Epilogue - Millie

3 Months Later

“You look so gorgeous, Millie. Seriously, you look like a princess,” Addison says as she does up the back of my wedding dress.

“Thanks, babe,” I say, smiling at her in the mirror. I love how dramatic and flowy my dress is—and I also love the simple blush-colored chiffon dress my sister is wearing. “You look gorgeous, too.”

“Best bridesmaid dress ever,” Addison says, striking a pose.

When Rex proposed to me, part of me wanted to run off and get married that same day. But Rex was convinced I’d regret not having an actual wedding, and I realized he was right. Still, neither of us wanted to wait longer than we needed to. We agreed a three-month engagement was the perfect length.

And today is finally the day I get to marry the love of my life.

“Okay, missy,” my sister says now with a giddy grin. “It’s time to go claim your hubby.”

I give my sister a hug. “Love you, sis.”

“Aw. I love you, too.”

Addison and I pick up our bouquets, exit the dressing room, and walk down the little hallway. Our dad is waiting at the doors that, when opened, will reveal the picturesque garden where Rex and I will be exchanging our vows.

Addison slips out through the doors first, wishing me luck as she disappears.

“How do you feel, sweetie?” my dad asks me.

“Excited,” I tell him. “A little nervous. But mostly excited.”

He kisses my temple. “I’m excited for you, too.”

When I first told my parents I was dating a man more than a decade older than me—a man who happened to own a business that shared a wall with mine—they were both a bit concerned. But as soon as my parents met Rex, whatever worries they had about him vanished. My mom was won over by Rex’s authenticity—and, of course, his compliments about her cooking. My dad and Rex instantly bonded over a shared interest in—what else?—vintage cars.

And now my dad is handing me off to Rex—the love of my life, the soul I was meant to be with, the world’s sexiest, sweetest, most magnificent man.

“Hey, handsome,” I whisper to Rex as I take my place at the altar.

Rex looks unbelievably handsome in his tux.

“Hi, beautiful,” he says back, and he looks just as happy as I feel.

I knew today was going to feel incredible. But after the ceremony, it’s like I’m a freakin’ glowing star. As Rex and I mingle with our guests, it feels like I’m talking a million miles a minute and giving everybody the biggest, most ridiculously overzealous hugs.

I’m especially thrilled when I see that Rex’s brother has made it to our wedding. We were unsure whether Huck would actually come—he lives a secluded life up on a mountain, after all—and so when I spot the big guy, I can’t help but run up to him and pounce onto him with a hug.

“Huck!” I say. “It’s so good to finally meet you.”

“Likewise,” Huck says, letting out a deep chuckle. “Congratulations, Millie. Real happy for you and Rex.”

“Aw. Thanks.” I grin at him. “Hopefully Rex and I will be attending your wedding before long.”

“Ah,” says Huck. “I don’t know about that.”

I click my tongue and narrow my eyes at him. “No. I have a feeling about you, Huck. You’re going to find love soon.”

Huck opens his mouth to say something else, but just then Rex comes up and gives his brother a bear hug.

“Hey, man,” says Rex as they pull apart. “So good to see you. Thanks for coming.”

“Wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” says Huck.

The three of us talk until it’s time to sit down for dinner. When I take my seat next to Rex at our little table for two, I lean over to him and say, “God, you weren’t exaggerating about your brother. He really is a mountain man.”

Rex laughs. “Yeah. Dude’s got a big heart, though. He just doesn’t wear it on his sleeve.”

A waiter comes by with our first course, a salad that’s almost too pretty to eat. The flavors blow me away, and so does the course that comes next—chicken Wellington for me, steak for Rex.

At the end of dinner, my sister stands up, asks for everyone’s attention, and proceeds to give an emotional—yet funny—maid of honor speech. My dad stands up next and says a few things—and makes a few dad jokes, too, of course. After that, to my surprise, Huck even stands up to say a few words.

All the toasts are so different, but all so touching. I squeeze Rex’s hand as they wrap up. Rex squeezes back, then stands up and takes the mic.

My heart rate speeds up, knowing what’s about to come.

“I think most of you already know this,” he says into the mic, “but Millie and I didn’t exactly get off on the right foot. The first day I met her, she was so annoyed with me that I thought she was going to burn down my auto shop.”
