Hard As Steel (Hard For Her #1)(8)
Author: Kate Hunt

Everyone laughs—including me.

“Honestly, though? She probably could have set fire to my shop and I still would have fallen for her. Because she’s the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.”

A bunch of awws circulate around the reception. Rex looks down at me and smiles that ruggedly handsome smile of his. “Millie, you’re everything to me. You always will be. And I’m so damn excited about the adventure to come.”

I mouth the words me too.

Rex looks out at our guests again. “Millie and I are so grateful that all of you could join us here today. It’s been a pretty great day so far, right?”

Someone lets out a hoot.

“Thanks, bud,” says Rex, laughing. He glances at me once more, and my heart pounds even harder. “Thing is, though…we have a little something else to celebrate today, too. Millie’s pregnant.”

A combination of surprise and joy erupts around us. My sister runs up to me and practically suffocates me with a hug, telling me she “had a feeling”—and both of my parents are right behind her, beaming from ear to ear over the news.

After the cake cutting, some dancing, and more socializing, Rex and I run hand-in-hand through a tunnel formed by our guests, my heart overwhelmed by all their smiling faces. Waving goodbye to them, Rex and I get into his car and the engine roars to life.

As we drive away, I glance into the back seat to make sure our suitcases are there. Sure enough, they’re right where they should be. They’re packed with everything we’ll need for our two-and-a-half-week honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas.

At first, when we were making our honeymoon plans, I was unsure about taking that much time off. It’s one thing to take time off when you’re someone else’s employee; it’s ironically a little more complicated when you’re the boss.

But after talking about it more with Rex, I realized we needed to make the most of it. We were only going to have one honeymoon, after all. Besides, I knew my sister would be more than capable of running Fizz & Glow while I was gone, and Rex assured me that his guys would be fine on their own, too.

And so we booked the flight and the hotel room. I bought a new swimsuit, too—one that I know is going to drive Rex wild.

The next two and a half weeks are going to be pure bliss.

As we drive away in Rex’s car, I look out at the warm glow of the dimming sky and realize that we’re going to catch the sunset on our way to the airport.

“You timed this on purpose, didn’t you?” I say. “Driving off into the sunset?”

“Maybe, maybe not,” Rex says.

I lean over to kiss his handsome cheek, then settle against him and rest my hand on my barely-there bump. And off we go, with JUST MARRIED scrawled across the back window, ribbons streaming from the bumper, and Rex’s arm around me as I rest my head on his shoulder, the rest of our lives ahead of us.
