I nodded and sniffed as I thought about walking down an aisle of empty rows. I had a feeling my makeup wouldn’t survive my vows as I couldn’t stop crying.
“A little birdie told me you needed a tissue.”
A lump caught in my throat as I spun. “Dad?” I’d never seen my father looking so handsome, wearing a black tux, and he seemed to glow. It reminded me of when I was a little girl and I thought he was the greatest man on Earth. He held open his arms and I flung myself into them. “How are you here?”
“Hugh.”
My makeup was surely ruined for now as I cried like a newborn baby. Then Chloe was there, makeup ready.
When the music started, the fancy double doors opened and beyond them the room was filled with family and friends.
“I’m going to kill and kiss him at the same time,” I said.
Dad whispered in my ear as Ryan appeared and took Chloe’s arm as they walked down the aisle. “Don’t cry, baby. Your mother will worry.”
“Wait. Is she here too?”
“Yes.”
“Hugh?” I asked.
“He’s a good man. I couldn’t have picked anyone better for you.”
Hugh
Molly had been right about the dress. Seeing her in it made it tough not to throw her over my shoulder and skip to the honeymoon part. But it was seeing the joy on her face as her parents were there for her on this special day that put the grandest smile on my face.
It hadn’t been easy. Finding a judge to grant her father an early release while he was on appeal had been tough. I’d been afraid we wouldn’t pull it off.
In the end, it had happened. I’d paid a private nurse so her mother could be here too with all her special needs. They were both present and that was the best gift I could give my wife compared with the one she would give to me in the months ahead.
When my son was born, months later, he came into the world on the same day his cousin arrived. Grandfather’s lawyers had a tough time not splitting the money between us as we argued against going by the time stamp.
My future with Molly was bright and, funny enough, I had my grandfather to thank for it. If not for the codicil in his will, who knew if I would ever have taken the time with any woman to fall in love?
When I looked at my wife holding our son, I knew I was the luckiest man in the world.
“You know I love you, right?” I told her.
“Only if you know I love you more,” she said back.
“Not possible.” Then I flashed her another smirk. “How long do we have to wait before I can fuck the hell out of you?”
“A month or so, why? Horny?”
“Always. But I thought why wait? We should start working on baby number two.”
When she gaped at me, I took advantage and claimed her mouth. For now, it would do. I showed her exactly how horny I was.
Babies wouldn’t remember things like this, would they? Our son was nestled between us during our soul-searing kiss.
