Tarnished (Triple Canopy #4)(52)
Author: Riley Edwards

“She gets it,” he mumbled and pressed his erection into my backside.

I smiled my confirmation.

“I’m gonna fuck you in that dress tonight.”

“I know you are.”

His gaze dropped to my cleavage and I shook my head. “Don’t even think about it.”

“About what?”

“I know that look. It’s the same one you get when we’re at work and I go into your office. You’re trying to figure out a way to fuck me now without wrinkling my dress and messing up my hair.” I watched his lips twitch and his eyes dance. “I admit you’re good at it but if something happens to my bridesmaid dress Emily will lose her ever-loving mind.”

“Emily? It’s Quinn’s wedding, baby.”

“Quinn would laugh herself stupid and high-five me if you ripped this dress off of me before the ceremony. She wouldn’t care if we all showed up in jeans and tees. But Emily wants everything perfect, so that’s what Emily’s going to get.”

“Tonight.”

“Every night,” I corrected.

Logan dropped his hands like I was on fire and he took a step back.

“Christ,” he growled.

“Lo—”

“Don’t say another word, baby. And do not come near me or I swear to God that dress is gonna be shredded and your hair’ll be a mess. Christ, nothing sweeter than you.”

Logan turned and stomped out of the room.

I smiled at myself in the mirror.

Oh, yeah, tonight was going to be a good night.

But then, every night was.

“It is my pleasure to present Quinn and Brice Lancaster,” the justice of the peace announced.

The sound was deafening. Cheers, whoops, clapping.

Hudson in his little-boy suit danced, jostling his baby cousin Emma as she tried to wrap her arms around him. Arianna getting into the action while her twin brother looked on. Nolan was always watching his sister. Hadley explained it was a twin thing. Her mom had told her that when she and Addy were young, Addy would watch over Hadley. Likely because Hadley was a spitfire and Addy was the good girl. Not much had changed with those two. Carson held the newest addition to the family—baby Cecile—Jason standing so close to his niece holding his daughter he was crowding her.

Walker men. Lenox men. Clark men. Levi McCoy. They were a protective bunch and they’d found men just like them to bring into the family fold.

Speaking of Walker men, I stopped looking at the kids and found Jasper and Emily in the crowd.

Jasper had the same look as when Delaney had married Carter and Hadley had married Brady. It was a cross between pain and immeasurable joy. He loved his girls, no doubt about it. And it wasn’t about losing them to their husbands; he knew that would never happen. It was the look of a father who would sleep well at night knowing his beloved daughters were well cared for. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Jason, but the look he gave his son was different. It was one of pride and satisfaction. Jason would carry on the Walker legacy. He would one day walk his daughter Cecile to her future husband with the same expression Jasper had.

Brice finally ended the kiss and stared down at his wife. Thankfully I was close, so close I could see Brice’s brown eyes were glossy. I was also close enough to hear his whispered words.

“Prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.”

Quinn beamed then returned, “I’m your wife.”

“You ready?”

“Absolutely.”

Brice turned them and they took off running toward the pond. Emily, Blake, Lily, and Reagan had done a beautiful job decorating the Clarks’ backyard. There were even floating candles in the water and the dock had mason jars of fresh wildflowers along the edges.

“She wouldn’t,” Addy gasped.

“You know she would!” Hadley laughed.

“Oh, shit!” Liberty added.

Together, Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster ran hand in hand down the dock, and with their clasped hands in the air, they jumped.

More claps and cheers rang out as everyone happily stared at the couple now splashing in the water. But there was one sound that rang the loudest—Quinn’s beautiful laughter.

I felt an arm slide over my shoulders and looked up to see Logan smiling down at me.

“That one’s your daughter,” Emily snapped.

“As far as I know they’re all my daughters,” Jasper returned.

“No, that one is you. All you, Jasper Walker. You made her that way.”

“Yeah, Em, I made them all that way. When you find the one thing in this life you cannot live without you grab ahold of it, run away with it, then jump. But, baby, you taught me that lesson, so really, you made them that way.”

Emily melted and Jasper being the smart man he was didn’t waste the opportunity to kiss his wife, and he did it deep and wet.

“I’m pregnant and I quit my job to come work at TC and the foundation we started,” Hadley announced.

Her parents broke apart and stared at her in shock.

“Oh, thank God, I was getting ready to throw cold water on them,” Addy snapped. “No one else’s parents make out like that in public. No, just ours, like they’re teenagers or something.”

“I don’t know. Last barbeque, Drake and I were sneaking away and we caught my mom and dad on the side of the house. Let's just say my eyes were burning,” Liberty groused.

Brice was carrying a soaking wet Quinn across the grass, her once stunning wedding dress full of muck.

Both smiling. Both the picture of happiness.

“What’d we miss?” Quinn chirped when they hit our huddle.

“Mom and Dad were making out so Hadley broke the news.”

“Isn’t that awesome!” Quinn shouted. “Hadley and Brady are gonna be parents.”

Logan’s body started shaking and I looked up at him.

“Did you know?”

“Nope. But it does explain why Brady’s looked a little green this week.”

“He’s not excited?”

Surely that couldn’t be true. Brady adored Hadley.

“Baby, look at Jasper.” I glanced over and found Jasper and pinched my lips. “Jasper’s not stupid—they’re married, hell even before they were married, Jasper knew. But it’s one thing to know and it’s another thing to know your son-in-law knocked up your daughter. Brady’s the son-in-law that knocked her up.”

Logan was back to laughing and I went back to people watching. The whole backyard was packed full of family including Brice’s parents and two brothers. It must be said, Bryan and Adam looked just like Brice. If things don’t work out with Echo, Jackie should think about one of them.

Quinn was back on her feet passing out hugs and thank yous when a blood-chilling, painfilled whimper rent the air.

The conversation around us ceased. Silence ensued except Delaney’s continuous panting.

“Oh my God! No.” Quinn rushed to her sister. “I was kidding. It was all a joke. You can’t have the baby here. Call nine-one-one. No, Carter, get the car. Laney, close your legs. Oh, shit. I was joking!”

“Oh. My. God,” I breathed.

“Bring her in,” Reagan calmly instructed. “We’ve got everything ready.”
