Worst Boss Ever(23)
Author: J. S. Cooper

“No, I’m not seeing anyone. It’s not complicated.” I rolled my eyes. “Can we please talk about work now?”

“Fine, Ms. Waldron, if that’s what you really want.”

“Yeah. That’s what I really want. I was sleeping and you got me out of bed, and I know you didn’t get me out of bed so that I can talk about my non-eventful love life and my family lunch.” I cleared my throat and narrowed my eyes. “Because if that’s the only conversation you wanted to make with me, I’m going to be really, really mad.”

“Well, Ms. Waldron. I was trying to be polite, but if you’d rather just get down to work, that’s what we’ll do.”

“Please let’s do that. I don’t really have time to waste for being …” I paused. I didn’t really know what we were being.

“Congenial?” he said, raising an eyebrow, a glint in his eyes. He knew he was annoying me and that was pleasing him. Asshole.

“Yep,” I gave him my sweetest smile, “you took the words right out of my mouth.”

“I really have to get to my parents’ house now.” I looked at my watch as I finished typing some notes for Dylan. “Maybe I can come to work early tomorrow or something?”

“You’re leaving?” He frowned at me. “Did I tell you we were done?”

“No, but I’m already late, and my parents are already going to be mad at me.” I closed my laptop and grabbed my bag. “I’m sorry about work, but I’m—”

“You’re what?” He cut me off, with a raised eyebrow. “I know you’re not telling me you’re done.”

“As a burnt steak on a grill.” I stood up. “I have to go now.”

“I’m coming with you.”

“What?” My jaw dropped as he stood up as well. “You can’t come with me.”

“I can and I will. We will work after you schmooze with your parents.”

“Schmooze? They’re my parents, not clients. And I didn’t invite you.”

“I’m your boss. I don’t need an invite.”

“In what world?” And then before he could answer. “And don’t say in the world where you pay me oodles of money. You can’t use that as a reason for everything.”

“I think I can with the amount I pay you.”

“I’m like your slave.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “I don’t even get my own life.”

“Did you not go dancing last night?” He raised an eyebrow. “Did you not wake up in your own bed? Did you not—”

“Omg, fine. Come with me.” I sighed. “But be prepared for my parents to grill you.”

“To grill me?” He grinned. “Why? Am I pretending to be your man?”

“Of course not,” I snorted. “I’ll tell them you’re my boss, but who knows with them. My mom believes every man in my life is a love interest.”

“I could be a sex interest.”

“So classy, Mr. McAllister.”

“That’s me.” He chuckled as he placed a bunch of twenties on the table. “Come on then, let’s go mingle with your parents, and then we’ll get back to work.”

“Yes, sir.” I saluted him. “Anything you say, sir. Three bags full, sir.”

“Keep it up and I’ll tell you to drop and give me …” He paused and winked and I could feel myself blushing. “Twenty.” He finished with a smirk, but I think we both knew what he’d really been insinuating. The worst part of it was that I thought it might actually be fun to give him a blowjob. I’d suck him until he was ready to come and then I’d bite down hard and make him scream. That would serve him right. I grinned to myself as we walked out of the restaurant.

“I know what you’re thinking, Ms. Waldron, and between you and me, I just might like it,” he said with a little wink.

I just stared at him, wondering exactly how much of my thoughts he could read.

Chapter 16

Abby

“So is there anything I should know about your parents before we go inside?” Dylan asked me, an inquisitive smile on his face as we stood outside my parents’ front door. They lived in a two-bedroom apartment in Prospect Park. I could tell that Dylan was surprised by the location. “Your parents own a brownstone?” he asked as we stood there.

“They don’t own the entire brownstone,” I explained. “They own their apartment in the brownstone.”

“But still, they own a place in a brownstone.”

“Why are you so surprised? Do you think you’re the only person with money in the city?”

“I don’t think I’m the only person with money. I’m just surprised that your parents have money.”

“My parents don’t have a lot of money,” I admitted. “They’ve been in this building for years, since I was a child. That’s the only way they were able to afford it. They’d never be able to buy into this building now.”

“So …” He paused and looked away.

“What?” I prodded.

“Nothing.” He shook his head.

“No. What were you going to say?” I raised my hand to knock on the door.

“You don’t have a key?” He looked surprised.

“Well, of course I have a key, but it’s not my house. I don’t live here anymore. I have to be polite.”

“Are you always polite or is that just because I’m here?” He raised an eyebrow.

I couldn’t help a laugh. “You’re very astute, aren’t you Mr. McAllister?”

“That’s why I make the big bucks.” He grinned. “You can use the key. I’m not going to embarrass you, Abby.”

“I thought I was Miss Waldron.”

“Well, not at your parents’ house, you can’t be Miss Waldron.”

“You’re a weird one, you know that Mr. McAllister?”

“Dylan.”

“Oh, so now I can call you Dylan?”

“Yeah. Now you can. But not when we get back to the office.”

“Yes, sir. It will be Mr. McAllister, sir.” I made a little curtsy.

“Very funny.” He smirked. “Although …”

“What?”

“It would be nice to see you bending over my desk.”

“What?” I exclaimed, shocked. “What did you—?”

Just then, my dad opened the door. “Abby, what are you doing out here?”

“Um, I was just about to come inside.”

“Well, you’ve been standing out here for a few minutes.” He looked at me and then he looked at Dylan. “And who’s this?”

“How did you know I was standing outside for a few minutes?” I asked. Was my dad standing on the other side of the door, listening to our entire conversation? Was he about to shoot Dylan for being so suggestive and rude to me?

“Because of the doorbell.”

“What?” I blinked.
