Maybe We Should (Silver Harbor #2)(49)
Author: Melissa Foster

Her eyes dropped to his cock, and as her smile grew, so did her laughter.

“That’s not exactly the reaction I was hoping for.”

“I can’t help it.” She giggled. “It’s just so . . . big and ready.”

“Now, that’s more like it.” He gathered her in his arms, kissing her smiling lips. “Any regrets, Weatherby?”

“Just one.” She gazed at him with new light in her eyes. “After last night, I kind of wish I’d fallen in the marsh two months ago.”

His heart stumbled. “Maybe we should make up for lost time.”

“I don’t have to be at work until one, which gives us lots of time for you to earn a higher mark than fair—if you’re up for the challenge.”

“Get ready to have your world shattered.”

Her hips rose beneath him. “You shattered it perfectly last night. I’m not sure there’s any earth left outside this room.”

“Maybe we’ll never leave.”

He lowered his lips to hers and spent the next hour proving just how phenomenal they were together. Three orgasms later, they lay breathless and spent on their backs, gazing into each other’s eyes and holding hands between them. The fitted sheet was off one corner of the bed, and the blanket and pillows were on the floor.

“Better?” He cocked a grin, knowing she was going to give him sass.

“Moderately.” She giggled and rolled toward him, draping her arm and leg over him and resting her cheek on his chest. “But maybe with practice you’ll get better.”

He laughed and kissed her forehead. “When do I take you back to the Cape?”

“I can take the ferry. I leave Monday evening and come back early Thursday.”

“I’d rather take you over so we can spend that time together.”

“I’d like that.”

“What are you doing tonight? Tomorrow night? Hell, what are you doing for the rest of your life?”

She laughed. “I thought you said you weren’t possessive.”

“You call it possessive. I call it knowing what I want.”

“I’m used to spending every night alone, remember?” She gave him a coy look. “I’ll have to let you know.”

He skimmed his hand down her back, wanting to push for more and knowing she needed to set their pace. “Promise me tonight, and we can negotiate the rest.”

“Okay, but only because you need to practice all the good stuff.”

He chuckled and kissed her again. A knock sounded at the front door, and Scrappy barked. He heard the door open, and a second later his mother’s voice rang out.

“Brant? I made muffins and thought I’d bring some over for you.”

Cait dove for the blanket and scrambled to wrap herself up in it, whispering, “She has a key?”

“Honey, you left laundry all over . . . Oh goodness,” his mother said. “You have company!”

Brant whispered, “I must have left the door unlocked last night.” He pulled on his briefs and called out, “Hi, Mom. I’m with Cait.”

“Oh! Hi, Cait!” his mother exclaimed from the other room.

“Hello,” Cait said nervously, shooting Brant a death stare as he gathered her in his arms.

“You kids go back to whatever you were doing,” his mother said. “I’ll just leave the muffins on the counter and let Scrappy out. He piddled on the floor.”

“We are such bad parents,” Cait whispered, frowning.

Brant called out, “Thanks, Mom,” then lowered his voice. “I’m sorry I forgot to lock the door, and we’re not bad parents. We were a little busy.”

Cait buried her face in his chest. When they heard his mother leave, Cait said, “Talk about awkward!”

Brant laughed. “Why? We’re adults. She knows how I feel about you.”

“Our clothes are all over your living room! She knows I’m naked.”

“I’m sorry you’re embarrassed. But like I said, she knows how I feel about you.” He kissed the tip of her nose. “Please don’t let that keep you from wanting to spend the night with me again. I’ll remember to lock the door next time.”

She stared at him, and laughter bubbled out. “The first time I sleep over at a guy’s house and I get caught by his mother. I feel like that’s something that should happen when you’re a teenager.”

“It did.”

“What?” Her entire face lit up. “No way!”

“Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking. I was seventeen and horny, and this chick was here for a summer vacation. I snuck her into my bedroom, and my mom must have heard us. She walked in as we were getting it on.”

Cait laughed. “So, this is normal for you?”

“Nothing about our relationship is normal for me, including my insatiable need to shower with you.” He lifted her and threw her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, carrying her into the bathroom.

“Brant!” She laughed. “I might have to reconsider the whole spend-the-night thing.”

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

CAIT SAT IN the Bistro’s office early Monday morning, tattooing musical notes and WHERE WORDS FAIL, MUSIC SPEAKS on Jagger’s rib cage. He lay on his back in hemp shorts, his flip-flops dangling from his feet, and his trusty dalmatian, Dolly, lying on the floor beside them. He was so relaxed, Cait wondered if he was sleeping. She liked the silence. It allowed her to relive the sunrise breakfast she’d enjoyed with Brant and his family on his grandfather’s boat, which had been the perfect way to start the week after a magical weekend that had passed in a blur of steamy mornings, busy workdays, and sizzling nights. Cait had always treasured her alone time, and she liked her space. But lately she felt like a caterpillar who had morphed into a butterfly, and she was excited to explore the world, and her relationship with Brant, from her new vantage point.

Saturday evening they had taken out one of the beautiful boats he’d built and had stayed on the water for hours. She’d been as in awe of the boat as she was of the man who had built it. He had spoken so passionately, she thought his mother was right that to Brant, boats were like beings, and that made her like him even more. They’d talked, she’d sketched, and they’d made love beneath the stars. She’d wondered if she’d feel off-balance spending so much time with him and sharing so much of herself, but the more time they spent together, the happier she was and the more she wanted to share. Yesterday morning before work, he’d tried to give her a swimming lesson at the pool in his community, but with her newfound freedom came an insatiable desire to show Brant how she felt about him. They’d ended up practically ripping their bathing suits off at the pool and had run back to his cottage like a couple of horny teenagers. Cait had gotten the idea in her head that she should spend Sunday night at her place and tamp down her newfound sexual wickedness. But she and Brant had taken Scrappy for a walk on the beach and stopped at Rock Bottom for a drink, and they’d had such a good time, and she’d felt so close to him, she didn’t want a forced night apart. He was a generous and masterful lover, but it was the emotions between them that had her heart drumming to a different beat. She wasn’t looking forward to going without seeing him at the Cape.
