Chapter One
I never thought my blood would get added to the queen’s collection. Now it sinks into the glass floor, drop by drop, joining the swirling pool of victims past. I barely feel the bite, not after the venom floods my system, and the chaos of the room dims. Shouts and footsteps muffle around me like I’m underwater. My body fills with warmth, and it sparkles and glows inside of my veins. Connor’s tongue laps at my neck, and I sigh, hoping he’ll bite again and I’ll get another rush.
A second figure materializes above me, but my vision is too hazy to make out much more than his towering build and dark hair. He grabs Connor’s shoulders and tries to rip him off me. Connor’s fangs dig deeper into my skin as a few others join and haul him away. I tilt my head enough to see my blood gushing over my shoulder and into the floor.
A shout cuts through the room. One second passes, then two, and the wound in my neck burns as it heals itself.
