“I want to tell them as soon as possible. But I am . . . I’m nervous.”
Josh nodded. “We started out faking being engaged. I’m happy faking knowing you at all.”
West swallowed. “Even if it’s only a week or two of faking . . . I have to see you.”
“Oh, me too. But we have friends in common, there’ll be plenty of opportunities. I’ll find sneaky ways to show you how much I love you. Perhaps give a very dry lecture on something.”
“I love how your confidence has bloomed.”
“It’s all about not caring if you own the room.”
West laughed.
“Ohh, and you don’t know my neighbours, but they go nuts over karaoke. Someone will bring the music, and I’ll jump on stage. It’ll all be for you.”
West pulled him off the suitcase, crushing him close. “And I’ll find sneaky ways to remind you that we’re engaged.”
Josh jerked back, blinking at him. “We are?”
West dropped to one knee. “If you will—”
They toppled to the floor, Josh on West, a naughtily shifting weight and a cascade of yeses.
A throat cleared. Noah. “As much as I hate to interrupt, if you want to catch your flight . . .”
Reluctantly, they pulled themselves to their feet. West stole a sweet kiss, and they trucked their suitcases to the car.
In the backseat, they threaded their fingers together. Josh gazed wistfully out the window. “I will miss it.”
A kiss feathered over his fingertips. “We’re bound to find a little Camp Austen everywhere.”
“Even in New Zealand?”
West’s soft lips felt like a promise. “Even in Port Rātapu.”
