“THAT’S THE LAST OF it.” Thank fuck. Carson refused to let me do anything else and set me up in the living room to just watch TV. I hated not helping but at the same time loved it.
Carson sits down next to me, throwing an arm over my shoulders pulling me close. Emily is on the floor doing homework, her legs in the air. This feels like the perfect family moment.
“I’m hungry.”
Carson laughs at that. “You’re always hungry lately, want me to cook something or just order in?”
“Chinese?”
“Pfft, I make better Chinese than the store. Can you hold off for an hour or do you need a snack first?”
“Snacky.” I pout and he laughs. Carson comes back a few minutes later with a snack and a small box in his hand.
“Wanted to do this months ago, but the timing never seemed right. Emily, come here.”
Emily comes to us, as my heart starts to flutter like crazy.
He opens the box, and a beautiful diamond ring is shown to me. “Be my wife, officially.” I was, technically, his wife according to club law, but not legally.
“I-I yes. Yes, I’ll marry you.” I start sobbing and Emily groans.
“She cries all the time lately.”
“Yeah, kid, she’s got a baby in her stomach. Makes women nuts,” Carson grumbles lowly.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he says as he slides the ring onto my finger.

5 years later
Never thought I’d be here in my life, married. Two amazing children, and two stepchildren. After our son was born, I told Carson no more. He’s getting up there in age, and my body really doesn’t take well to being pregnant. Carson has four kids, so he can’t complain.
Our daughter Chandler runs around the backyard chasing after her baby brother Matthew. We had them close together, turns out you can still get pregnant while breastfeeding. I was only two months post baby with Chandler when I got knocked up with Matthew.
Life’s been a crazy journey. But I wouldn’t change it, okay that’s a lie, I’d change a few things, but it took those hard times to get to where we are today.
“Babe,” Carson says, coming onto the back deck. His arms wrap around me. “They still playing tag?”
I snuggle back against him. “Yeah, poor Matthew has three big sisters. Poor kid.”
“We could always have another.” I gulp because that’s something we really need to talk about. In all the talks we had, we said we were done after two, I know I’m done, but this morning I wasn’t feeling right and took a test, and low and behold I’m pregnant. Four weeks.
“Something you wanna tell me?” he asks, bringing something out of his pocket and showing me. The test from the trash. He already knows. Damn.
“Well, I just found out, I was going to tell you later.”
“I love you,” he tells me.
“I love you, too, Carson,” I tell him back.
He spins me around and places a kiss on my forehead. “I hope it’s another boy, Matthew and I are still outnumbered.” I laugh at that.
I look back to our happy family playing in the backyard and smile. Life really is fucking amazing.
