Decker's Dilemma (Knights & Dragons MC #1)(7)
Author: Chantal Fernando

   “Okay.”

She opens her mouth, then closes it, and walks away. I watch her get back to her gate, open it and disappear inside.

   She’s a beautiful woman.

   Fiery.

   Spirited.

Why do all the bikers get the good ones?

I don’t know, but I find myself looking forward to tomorrow, even though this is a complication I don’t need right now. I’m attracted to someone who a) has a boyfriend and b) a client has asked me to find.

I reverse from Mrs. Treble’s driveway and head back to the hotel.

Today did not go how it was supposed to, but sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.

Chapter Four

   Cara

I contemplate inviting someone to join me to meet up with Decker, but I know that they would turn it into a big thing. Decker would probably end up getting a fist in his face or something dramatic because of how overprotective the men in my life are, especially my dad.

I was going to call Rhett, but I decide not to. One, because I haven’t heard from him since we spent the night together after he met Clo and me at the bar, and two, I know he won’t take kindly to Decker following me.

I don’t know what to think about the whole Decker thing. I noticed his car following me when I stopped at the park to play Pokémon Go. I recognize that it seems silly, but it’s something I enjoy and share with a few of my students. I stopped to put my Gengar in the gym at the park, and noticed Decker stop, too. Growing up how I did, it’s built in me to be aware of my surroundings. I’m always paying attention, always alert. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing, because I can never properly relax, but it’s a skill that has kept me safe.

Last minute I end up giving Clover a call, but she doesn’t pick up, so I show up at our meeting spot, which I decided was going to be at Riley’s, alone.

Decker doesn’t have to know that, though. He can sit there and wonder who I’m with and who is watching me. I have a feeling that will annoy him.

I did Google him when I got home, and I found out that he was a cop in the same city as Felix. The cop thing would normally have me feeling a little suspicious, but maybe he knows Felix. I found on a website that he is now working as a private investigator for a firm down by where Clover lives, but I have no idea what he would want with me. I just hope it doesn’t have anything to do with the Wind Dragons MC, and my family ties to them. I don’t want to have to deal with any drama right now, but things usually have their way of finding me.

When I park my car I see him through the window, already there and waiting. At least he’s prompt.

Stepping inside the bar, I find him sitting at a booth, beer in one hand, phone in the other. He’s a good-looking man, this Decker, and I’m sure he’s the kind of guy who knows it. He’s dressed in all black: leather jacket, a T-shirt and jeans. Throw in some thick dark hair and all the darkness just makes his green eyes pop even more.

“Hey,” I say, sitting down opposite him and placing my handbag down on the table.

“Hey,” he replies, giving me a quick once-over. “Can I get you something to drink?”

I shake my head. “No thank you. So, you were a cop?”

He grins and arches his brow. “Looked me up?”

“Yeah. You don’t have any social media, which is unusual enough, but I found an article about you online. I thought you said you were a PI.” I actually like the no social media thing, but I’m not going to admit that.

“I am. I was a cop, I quit, and now I’m a PI,” he explains, shrugging. “What’s the big deal—you have a warrant out for your arrest?”

“Very funny. I just want to make sure that you are who you say you are.”

“I am. I think we may have someone in common.”

My eyes widen in surprise. “I doubt that.”

He gives me a know-it-all smirk that on anyone else would give him an “I want to punch you in the face” vibe, but instead gives him an “I want to make out with your face” look. “Clover Black.”

“How do you know her?” I ask, keeping my expression neutral.

“I used to be partners on the force with her husband, Felix.”

Small world indeed. “Okay, I just want to know what the hell we are doing here, and then I’ll be on my merry way.”

His lip twitches. “Where’s your entourage?”

   “Around.”

He slides over a folder. “I am indeed a PI, and I was hired by a woman looking for you.”

I open the file and start to read the information in front of me. It says that a woman by the name of Constance Wilder has been searching for me.

“Constance Wilder,” I say, testing the name out. “We share the same biological father?”

   Decker nods. “Wade Wilder.”

“I haven’t seen Wade since I was a kid.” He never wanted anything to do with me, and to be honest, the feeling is mutual. From what I remember of him, he was not a good man. “So I have a half sister?”

   “You sound surprised.”

   I am.

To me, Rake is my father, and I don’t really think about Wade at all. Rake is the one who has been there for me and loved me as his own for as long as I can remember. With Rake as my father, I never felt like I was missing out on anything and never ever thought about reaching out to Wade or that side of the family.

“She wants to meet me?” I ask, a little curious, but also a little suspicious. If this Constance is anything like our father, maybe I don’t want to know her. Hypocritical of me, I know, but I’m nothing like Wade.

Decker nods, studying me a little too closely. “She does. I can leave her information with you, and then it can be up to you what you do with it.”

I arch my brow at him. “Don’t you work for her?”

He laughs, and it’s a deep, sexy sound. “I work for myself.”

“I’d like to meet her. I mean, I’d like to hear what she has to say,” I decide. I’m extremely close with my baby sister, Natalie, and I never imagined that I would have more siblings out there who want to connect with me. I should at least give Constance a chance. If she’s not a good person, then I don’t have to have anything to do with her. But I can at least give her that chance, right?

   I just hope I don’t regret it.

“Can I get you a drink now?” he asks, studying me.

“Sure, I’ll have a beer, but then I better get going. I have stuff to do.”
