The main room is still busy when I get back, and I spot Grim at the bar with Mav. I grab his hand, and he looks surprised to see me. “We have somewhere to be,” I say, tugging him away from Mav and outside.
“Are you okay? How was the date?”
I lead him towards the oak tree, stopping under its wiry branches and turning to face him. “I had sex once before you with a guy who spent the first years of school bullying me. I think I did it because I wanted him to leave me alone, but I hated it, every second of it. It didn’t work either because he just bullied me more.” I shake my head, frowning at my rambling state.
“I can’t tell you stories of my first kiss or my first in anything because you are my first, Grim. My first real kiss, my first real date, my first love, my first heartbreak. The truth is, I don’t need a date to tell me who I want or who makes me happy. It’s you, Grim. It’s always been you, and even when I thought I’d die from heartache, I still wanted you to hold me and make it better. You gave me Oakley—how can I ever love anyone as much as I love you and her?”
He steps closer, running a hand through my hair and smiling down at me, his eyes full of love. “You didn’t like the date?”
“The restaurant was beautiful, the company not so much. Give me a burger and a biker any day,” I say with a wide smile.
“You realise what you’re agreeing to, right?”
“Remind me.”
“This is it. No one else. Just me and you forever. You’re mine and I’m yours, and no one is coming between us.”
“I think I can handle that.”
“If you can’t, you have less than a second to step away cos when my lips hit yours, that’s it, you’ve sealed your fate.” His lips are inches away.
“Like a contract?” I whisper.
Cupping my face in his hands, he presses his lips against mine, and I feel explosions in my stomach. I’ve waited so long for this moment and didn’t even know it. “Like a contract,” he confirms, pulling back slightly. “I love you, Hadley. Forever.”
“I love you too, Hudson. Forever.”
