“You’re addictive,” he told me before biting at my bottom lip.

“So are you.”

He pulled his head back. “Yeah?”

“Yes.”

When his phone rang, his expression morphed into a serious one. “Shit. You’re distracting too, little mouse.” He curled an arm around my shoulders and tucked me into him. He picked up his phone. “Tech.”

“You got your computer on?” I heard from the other end.

“Yeah, brother, like you told me. But one sec. Court just woke.”

Tech’s chuckle also traveled through the phone and then “Brother, it’d better be quick or you’re gonna miss the fun,” followed.

Dominic grunted and placed the phone down at his side. “Baby, Tech’s got a live feed of Ray about to get taken down by cops who are on their way to where he is. It’s why I’m up. Woke to Tech textin’ me. You can either watch it or go back to bed and wait for me. I’m good with whatever you pick.”

What did I want to do?

I knew he wouldn’t be disappointed in me if I didn’t want to watch.

But… I couldn’t help feeling I wanted to see that prick being humiliated and taken in like he deserved.

He’d messed with Dom.

He’d killed.

He’d stalked.

Yes, I wanted to see his world crumble.

“I’d like to see the look in his eyes when he realizes his life is screwed.”

His grin was big. “Fuck, you’re perfect.” He kissed me like he wasn’t on a timeline. “My laptop’s set up in the dinin’ room.” He grabbed his phone, took my hand, and led me toward the table. “Tech—” Dom laughed at something Tech said. “Yeah, brother, already know how lucky I am.” He sat in the seat at the end of the table and pulled me down onto his lap. “All right, tell me what to do.” While he played with the laptop, I swung my legs and sat sideways on his lap so I could wind my arm around his neck. Even as he talked on the phone, he kept glancing at me and giving me quick pecks to the temple, nose, cheek, and chin.

“You got it?” Tech asked.

“Yep.”

I turned around, facing forward, and leaned into the table to get a closer look. Dom blanketed my back, brushing my hair over my shoulder. On the screen all we saw was shrubbery until whoever was filming pushed through enough so we could see the street.

Ray’s car was destroyed, the driver’s side smashed in from one of those industrial bins. The front had been driven into a roller door. Smoke billowed out from under the wrecked hood.

“Tech, who’s there filmin’?”

Tech snorted. “Torch, who else. Even though he crashed the car and got a few scrapes and bruises, he wanted to stick around for the show. Wreck’s there also, watching Torch and makin’ sure Ray doesn’t escape. Though he was pretty messed-up drunk at the end.”

They quieted when we all heard sirens through the video. It didn’t take long for the cops to show and the action to happen. They checked over the car and found Ray in the driver seat. Somehow, one of the cops managed to get the door open. We heard him cursing and taking a step back.

“Fucking hell, Ray. Did you shit yourself?”

Laughter sounded from the car along with some gibberish words. The other cop was at the back of the car where the trunk was open a little. He pushed it the rest of the way and cursed.

“Bobby, call in more cars.”

“What? Why? This is Ray. He’s just drunk.”

“There’s bloody clothes and other shit in here. Call in backup now.”

“Shit, fuck. Ray, what the hell have you done?”

Everything happened quickly after that. A team showed and went through the trunk while other officers questioned a very intoxicated Ray.

“Who did you hurt?”

Ray laughed. “Hurt? Me—they hurt me. But I killed him.” More laughter from him as Dom and I shared a smile. He’d just screwed up his life without even knowing it. Whatever he would come up with now wouldn’t stand in court because Torch wasn’t the only one recording; another officer was, and he’d caught Ray’s confession on camera.

Dom reached out and shut the laptop. He leaned back, dragging me against him with an arm around my waist. “Tech, talk soon.”

Tech chuckled. “Yeah, yeah.” The call ended.

“It’s done,” I said softly, smiling.

“It is. He won’t get away with anythin’ now.”

Justice. “I’m glad, Dom.”

“Me too, baby.” His hand slipped up under his tee and rubbed over my stomach. “Like havin’ you here in my house. Sharin’ my life with you.”

My body warmed and my pulse raced. “I like it too.”

“Good. Get into bed, little mouse. Gonna shut things down and come fuck you.”

“Okay,” I breathed, my body tingling from his words.

I could definitely get used to this. Us.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

* * *

“You can back out at any time you like,” I told Dominic for at least the tenth time, having just pulled up out the front of my parents’ house for family dinner night.

“Woman, you ain’t gettin’ out of this. I’m lookin’ forward to a home-cooked dinner.”

I shot him a glare. “And what do you call all those dishes I made at your place, huh?”

Ever since the night Dom took me out to dinner for his alibi, we’d been inseparable. Usually, I would either get on a guy’s nerves after twenty-four hours, or he would be on mine, and I’d need a break, but with Dominic, it was the opposite. Honestly, the way my feelings had grown for him in a week was new and exciting and scary all at the same time. Dominic and I had only spent one night apart from each other in the last week, and in that night alone, I didn’t think I could miss a guy as much as I did him, yet it happened.

It was an extra hit to my emotions that he’d hadn’t liked being apart either. He’d called me the next morning and told me to get my ass back to his place.

It would have been smarter to refuse since I was still a little worried it was happening too fast, but I hadn’t. Couldn’t.

I liked falling asleep beside him.

I liked waking up with him.

I liked how he got my coffee ready while I showered for work.

He enjoyed my company as much as I did his.

Bad days were bound to happen between us. Neither of us was perfect. We’d annoy each other eventually, probably argue, but I already believed we could work through whatever it was because we’d wanted the same outcome: a strong relationship.

Dominic grinned and cupped the back of my head, pulling me close. “A meal from my woman, which I fuckin’ loved.” He kissed me, and I was sure it was to shut me up. Not that I minded. “But you gotta know a mom’s cookin’ is always different.”

Sighing, I had to agree. “Yes, that’s true.” I nodded. “Okay, let’s do this.”

“Babe,” he called.

I turned to him before I got out. “Yes?”

“No matter what goes on, you gotta know you’re stuck with me. You know I like what we’ve got goin’ on, little mouse.”
