Return to Me (To Me Series #1)(8)
Author: Lucy Darling

“You can’t fire my sister.” My sister agrees with me.

“She’s not my sister-in-law yet.” He looks down at my sister with a playful smile.

“Are you blackmailing me?” I wouldn't put it past him. Colt is very by the book but I have a feeling he’d do anything for Madison.

“I think you know I’ll do whatever it takes to be your husband.” He all but confirms my thoughts.

“I’ll marry-”

He cuts her off with a kiss. I swallow hard, my mind drifting to Victor. Why do all thoughts lead to him?

“Wasn't really asking anyway,” Colt informs my sister.

“He has control issues.” I shrug. “You don’t have any control issues. You’re both going to be perfect for each other. I just didn't realize that he’d maul you the first day. I should have seen it coming. Colt always goes headfirst into something when he wants it.” I wave my hand at them.

“Is that a wedding ring?” Madison shouts. Shit. I cover it up with my other hand.

“This old thing? I’ve had it for years,” I lie.

“Mackenzie! Is this why you haven’t been responding to my texts and calls?” Madison demands to know.

“So are we thinking a big wedding or a smaller one?” I change the subject quickly. “I’m guessing small because Colt doesn't like people and you’re an introvert. I’ll start planning.” I hop up from the sofa, heading toward my sister’s office.

“Is she married?” I hear her say from behind me before I make my getaway, shutting the door behind me. I hope Colt keeps her busy and then I can sneak out of here next. She is going to be all over me about Victor.

I look down at the ring still on my finger. I can’t bring myself to take it off. I could at least put it on the other hand. I grab it but stop my fingers from pulling off the band. I drop my hand away, unable to pull it off.

The door to my sister’s office flies open. “We planning my wedding or talking about your wedding?”

“Planning your wedding.” I hide my hand behind my back.

“Colt ordered breakfast. We’re going to need it.”

I stroke my cock as the warm water washes over me in the shower. Each stroke brings me closer to the relief I need. Thoughts of my wife swim through my mind. The way she smelled, tasted and moaned my name has me close to coming.

I rest my hand on the wall as I pick up the pace, remembering the way she came on my tongue and called out my name. I needed this release in order to keep myself calm. I should be pumping every last drop of my cum into my wife’s cunt but she decided to run from me—again.

I feel my balls pull tight. I’m about to come. I jerk my hand away from my cock, hitting the water over to cool. It does nothing to soothe the desire I have coursing through my veins, but I’m not going to let myself come.

I know my wife is over there; her little pussy gets wet every time my name runs through her mind and what I could be doing to soothe the very ache I’ve created in her body. I made sure she knew what I had to offer her. That she would never question that I’d spend all my days with my face buried between her thighs giving her all the pleasure that I could if that’s what it took to make her stay. I’d do anything to have her forever.

Flipping off the water, I step out of the shower and grab a towel to dry off quickly. I check my phone, demanding an update. Jackson texts me back instantly, letting me know my wife's location.

She’s still in her building, according to him. I was actually surprised that she’d gone there. I thought I was going to have to search far and wide to find her again. That it wouldn’t be so easy. Her running home tells me all I need to know. She may not have admitted it to herself yet, but she wants me to chase her. Somewhere deep inside of her, she knows that she belongs to me.

My wife may enjoy running, but I believe it’s because she knows I’ll always chase her. So, if that’s what I need to do to make her happy, I will let her run. She thought she was sneaky, climbing from bed in the early hours of the morning.

What she hadn’t counted on was how in tune I am with her body. I felt her every breath when she was near me. How the fuck she thought I wouldn’t feel her slip from the bed we shared is beyond me.

I head to my closet to get dressed in my normal slacks and button-up shirt. I roll up my sleeves, not bothering with a jacket. This is going to be a long day. I’m not sure how I’m going to keep myself away from her, but it has to be done.

She needs time to collect herself. It will let her mind settle, making her realize that I am her husband and that I’m not going anywhere. She also needs to see that she wants this as badly as I do. It’s going to be hell not going to her but I’ll do it for us.

Getting dressed, I head back downstairs to my waiting car and hop into the back. My driver doesn't need to be told where I want to go. I might not go to her, but I sure as fuck can be close to her. It will help me not break. I’ll be able to control myself, just barely, as long as she’s at least in my sight.

I’ll watch and wait. It will be utter torture but it’s worth it. She is worth it. I have no doubt about that. I am doing this for her and for her I’d do anything. I don’t care if it rips me up inside. I know that when it is all said and done that I will not only have my wife but I’ll have killed any of those demons she subconsciously struggles with.

I sit at my desk bored out of my mind. I really did hire the most efficient wedding planner for my sister. The woman is killing it and here I am sitting at my desk with idle hands. Worse, my boss is working on nothing. He has no new projects or anything outstanding that requires my attention. He’s not even showing up for work these days. I shouldn’t care because I’m still getting paid. There is nothing for me to do, which gives me too much time to stay inside my head. And we all know what’s in there—Victor.

It figures when I need my boss to be here demanding stuff from me that he wouldn’t be. I shake those thoughts from my head, knowing that he’s home making my sister happy and that’s what matters the most. We closed out our last big deal last week. I should be working on something new, but Colt isn’t looking like he is going to be doing anything but my sister in the near future.

I check my emails again, but there’s nothing there. I jump when the phone on my desk rings. I grab it quickly.

“Mackenzie Davenport.” My heart races as I wait to hear Victor’s voice.

“Ms. Davenport. It’s Scott Brown in legal. I was calling about your annulment.”

“Oh.” My shoulders drop. It’s been four days and I haven't heard a peep from Victor. Nothing! I don’t even know if he’s back. Surely he didn't stay at the resort.

“We still can’t reach Mr. Wolf.”

“Maybe he’s out of town still.” I fish, hoping they have something to give me.

“No, he’s in the city. I had it confirmed because we’re going to have to have him served if he decides that he’s not going to cooperate.” I clench my jaw. What is he doing? If he’s not coming to see me then why not sign the damn papers already? “We tried to call him several times with the number you gave us but he hangs up on us when he does answer.”
