IN WALKED SIN (The Touch Series #5)(13)
Author: Stoni Alexander

A few months after that, she told him she wanted to blow him. With a whole lotta mischief in her eyes, she extended her hand and led him to the futon in their private room. One small nudge and he sat with his Johnson pointing straight to the damn moon. After kissing the hell out of him, she moved down his body until her mouth was poised over his aching dick. She ran her tongue over him again and again before taking him inside. Her tender licking and sucking built to a maddening pace while he groaned out her name.

When she cupped his balls and stroked his shaft, he warned her to back off, but she deep throated him and he released a torrent into her. She had slayed him with her sexy talents and, while he would never admit it, she owned every damn inch of him.

Her chill vibe turned fiery hot whenever they got together. It was like she harnessed her energy until she could unleash it on him. And he welcomed everything she would give him, never quite getting his fill of her.

During the twelve months they played together, Evan became the best part of his week.

Thinking about her in that way made his balls ache in the cramped space between his legs. As he rode down his street, he made a mental note to contact the Applegates after Christmas to see if Bethany would speak with her. He would make things right with Evangeline. He owed her that, at the very least.

He parked in his driveway and dismounted. Before pressing the six-digit code on his garage door, he glanced around to see if anyone was watching. After pushing his bike inside, he waited for the door to close before entering his home.

In all the years he’d been running his crisis management firm, he had never once received a death threat. But that had changed.

Going forward, he’d watch his six.

Desperate for a caffeine hit, Evangeline entered the quaint coffee shop, which was tucked into an older Shirlington neighborhood. To her surprise, the local eatery was busier than she’d expected on a Sunday morning. She needed to head to the office, but when Hannah had called—more like woken her ass up—she couldn’t say no.

“Merry Christmas,” Hannah said with too much perkiness. “Santa’s loading up his sleigh.”

“Bah, humbug. I need coffee. You want something else to go with that holiday cheer?”

“Baby and I are enjoying a yummy herbal tea.”

Evangeline ordered a double mocha espresso and returned to sit across from her sister. “So, why was I summoned here way too early on a Sunday morning?”

“Joey, the pastor, called me. He wants to do a little sightseeing and asked if I’d play tour guide. Charlene gave him my number.” She smiled. “He asked if you would join us and I’m hoping you will.”

“Sorry, I’ve gotta put in some hours at the office.” Evangeline sipped the hot java. “So, what do you know about this guy, anyway?”

“Oh, for goodness’ sakes, he’s all alone in a big city.” Hannah set her cup down. “How is it bad that I’m willing to be his friend?” She looked toward the door and waved. “Be nice.”

“Nice is not in my nature.”

Hannah chuckled as Joey sat down next to her. “I was hoping you’d be free,” he said to Evangeline.

Evangeline fought the urge to reply with a smarmy comment. Instead, she raised her coffee cup. “Ho, ho, ho.”

He laughed. “I’m grabbing myself one of those. Do you guys want something to eat?”

They declined and he ambled toward the counter.

“See, he’s just trying to make friends,” Hannah said. “Plus, it might be good to have someone to talk to about my little one. I’m worried that I won’t be enough, you know, doing this parent thing all alone.”

Evangeline held her sister’s hand across the table. “You aren’t alone. I’m here. Mom’s been super supportive. And so has Birdie.”

“Don’t forget Charlene. She’s been a sweetheart.”

Instead of voicing her opinion about Charlene, she gave her sister’s hand a little squeeze. “Just because he’s a pastoral counselor doesn’t mean you have to pour your heart out to him.”

“Why not? He’s the perfect person to listen.”

“Listen to what?” Joey sunk down on the wooden seat beside Hannah. “I’m a great listener.”

Evangeline shook her head, but Hannah would not be silenced. “I plan on raising my child on my own and sometimes it feels a little daunting.”

Joey nodded, slowly. “I understand how you could feel that way. Parenting is a big responsibility and God did intend for a man and a woman to raise their offspring together.”

Steeling her spine, Evangeline grimaced. She wasn’t comfortable being preached to, especially by someone she had just met. And she didn’t much agree with his narrow-minded viewpoint, either. She had single-parent friends along with same-sex couple friends who were raising families, and their households seemed way more loving and cohesive than hers had been.

“I’ve offended your sister,” Joey said before sipping his drink. “I’ll tread lightly.”

“Good idea.”

“It’s okay,” Hannah said. “My situation is what it is.”

“If it would make you feel better, you can confide in me, if your sister is okay with that.” Joey glanced at Evangeline.

“My boyfriend doesn’t know I’m pregnant. His mom got really sick and he used all his leave to care for her.” Hannah’s eyes glistened with tears. “I didn’t want to add any more pressure, especially since he told me he was afraid he was going to lose his job.”

“What does he do?”

“He’s a federal employee.”

Joey flashed a grin at Evangeline. “Is that what everyone says in this town?”

“Pretty much,” Evangeline replied.

“I’m sorry you couldn’t talk to him about your child,” Joey said to Hannah. “Could you tell him now?”

“I’ve wanted to call him a bunch of times, but I always chicken out. The truth is, he doesn’t want to be with me.” Breaking eye contact, Hannah pursed her lips.

Evangeline’s heart ached for her sister.

“Well, I’m here now and I will help you any way I can.”

“Thank you, Joey.”

Evangeline studied her sister’s face. Her cheeks were more flushed than usual and she appeared overly eager to share her challenges with this stranger. As trusting as Hannah was, Evangeline was not. Maybe she was jaded, but her suspicious nature made her an alert agent. Yeah, the same alert agent who loses babies, genius.

Their conversation continued but Evangeline zoned out. She needed to get to the office and put some time in. The baby trafficking case had hijacked her caseload, and she had a shit-ton of catching up to do.

“Evangeline, come with us,” Hannah pleaded, plucking her from her thoughts.

“We’re going to the Museum of Natural History,” Joey said.

“Not today.”

Joey’s smile fell away. “I’m sorry if I offended you.”

“Don’t worry about it.” Evangeline rose. “You guys have fun.”

After hugging her sister goodbye, she left the eatery. As she drove into the district, she wondered if Hannah was right. Maybe I’m being too hard hearted and Joey can help her work through her insecurities.
