Love is Contagious : A Charity Anthology(214)
Author: J. Saman

As my length becomes harder, I feel the urge to end the call. In the middle of their quarrel, I’m ready to blow in my underwear, and it wouldn’t be good to do so with three pairs of eyes on me.

“Look, guys,” I say, my voice trembling from pleasure, “I’m sorry to interrupt, but we have to go.”

“Yes, my yoga class is coming up,” Dex adds.

“Fucking hippie!” Virginia says before disconnecting.

When Dex shuts off his phone, I take his earlobe in my mouth. “Yoga class? You still hate yoga...”

“Just wanted to fuck with her a little more.” He chuckles, bringing me in for a kiss. “The worst part is that she believed me.”

“Can you blame her? We have chickens, for God’s sake!”

Dex laughs, and my heart melts as it always does. “You changed me forever, beardy.”

“As you did me,” I say, touching the black stripe tattooed on his left ring finger. His tongue seeks mine, and I give in to his kiss. “Babe, don’t kiss me like that. We have no time. Mom is waiting for us.”

“We can be late. Believe me, they’ll all know to wait for us,” he says, grabbing my T-shirt.

“You had to say yes to that, didn’t you?”

“And let Bella organize Aaron’s fiftieth alone? Hell no! I need to help them surprise my favorite brother.”

Aaron and Dex are close—too close sometimes. I’m not jealous per se, but if once upon a time I thought I was close to my brother, it seems Dex and Aaron are twins.

“Please don’t let Ian hear you.”

As if on cue, his phone rings and Ian’s name flashes on the screen. I’m certain he’s calling about the drama going on on the west coast. Dex pushes the phone away, letting the call go to voicemail. That’s the new Dex, ignoring his phone, cool and detached, barely in suits but always sexy and letting me take care of him. If I loved three-piece-suits, stick-up-his-ass Dex, I adore him being laid-back and fun.

“We’re really going to be late,” I say as he takes my nipple ring in his mouth.

“We sure are, and they’re going to know why when you show up without a scowl on your face and beaming like a guy who just emptied his balls.”

I grunt. Not that I don’t want us to, but we live thirty-five minutes away from my parents. With what Dex wants to do, we would be more than an hour late, and I can’t make my mother wait that long. “If we leave now, babe, I promise to fuck you against the barn later.”

He stops and doesn’t let my heart beat once before giving me his answer. “Deal, love. Now once he’s in New York, promise me you won’t go check on Asher every week.”

I growl in disapproval. I can’t help wanting to protect that kid.

Dex chuckles. “You’re so uptight when it comes to people you want to shelter. Sometimes I worry I’m becoming more and more like you and you're becoming more and more like me.”

“There is still a long way to go before I become underfucked like you were before you came to my bed.”

He laughs and kisses my chest. “Joke apart, beardy, remember that you can’t water people’s plants if they don’t want them to grow? Or some hippie shit you once said when I wasn’t listening to your lecture.”

“I’ll punish you against the barn, little prince. Now let’s get moving, Mom is waiting.”

As I put my T-shirt back on, Dex laughs and picks up the keys to our truck. As with every time I hear him being happy, I remember the path we’ve walked to arrive here. Love can change you if you let it tattoo your heart and pound hard into you. You just have to never give up and love over and over until the message is clear.

THE END.

One Massive Vampire

Autumn

The brakes of my rental car squealed, and I manoeuvred us down the precarious forest road, my fingers in a death grip on the steering wheel and my nerves in tatters over the final stage of our forty-eight-hour journey.

Of course, the last stretch had to be snow-covered and almost vertical.

Exhaustion tinged the edges of my vision red, and it was only adrenaline and the safety of the little boy dozing in the back seat that kept me alert.

I needed sleep. I needed a shower and a shoulder to cry on. There was not a single person in the world I could confide my troubles in.

Either side of the road, rocky outcrops interrupted thick trees and, overhead, a grey

sky darkened as the afternoon drew in. I eyed the next junction with trepidation. I wasn’t a stranger to driving in freezing conditions, but this was my first time behind the wheel of an automatic car—all they had available at the Seattle hire place.

I gritted my teeth in determination. This day had been a beast, but it was almost done.

“Ma,” Benjamin muttered, sleep talking.

I glanced in the mirror at his scrunched up face. “Not Ma. Just me. Sorry, kiddo.”
