Undaunted(29)
Author: Shirleen Davies

She walked to a window, pulling back the curtains. “Does my father know where I am?”

Fuse shook his head. “If he doesn’t know, he won’t accidentally slip and mention it to someone. I believe the possibility is remote, but it’s better to be safe.”

Dropping the curtains, she clasped her hands together, licking her lips. “Will it be just the four of us?”

Fuse took a step closer, wondering at the unease in her voice. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she lied. Brittany knew what bothered her had nothing to do with the threat and everything to do with the man a few feet away.

Chuckling, he shook his head, closing the distance between them. “You’re a lousy liar.” Raising a hand, he stroked his knuckles down her cheek. “Talk to me, Brit.”

She leaned into him, wanting to bare her heart, too afraid of his reaction. Instead, she shook her head. “It’s nothing, Scott.”

When she tried to step away, he slid his hand behind her neck, drawing her close to press his mouth against hers. He’d meant it to be brief. The instant heat between them shouldn’t have been a surprise. They’d always had amazing chemistry, barely able to keep their hands off each other. Not even the years apart had changed the intense attraction.

Right now, with Brittany in his arms, he wanted to forget how their relationship had ended, the fact he’d never gotten over her, and would be a fool to trust her again.

Sliding his tongue over her plump lips, she parted them, allowing him to sweep inside. He wrapped his arms around her, groaning when small fingers dug into his shoulders. She met every thrust of his tongue, squirming to get closer, moving against him.

His lips moved along her jaw, then back, recapturing her mouth. Her hands moved into his hair, massaging, holding him to her. “Scott…”

“Tell me what you want, sweetheart.”

“You. Only you.”

Lifting his head, he stared into eyes glassy with need. “You must be absolutely certain. Nothing will change if we have sex.”

She met his gaze, a lump of regret combined with yearning lodged in her throat. This might be her only chance to be with him. Could she deal with the pain when the inevitable happened and he walked away? Knowing the ache in her heart couldn’t be worse than it was now, she leaned up to kiss him.

“I’m sure.”

Scott reached out, his fingers tugging the zipper of her sweatshirt down, then shoving it off her shoulders before tugging the shirt over her head and tossing it aside. Holding her gaze, he released her bra, the straps slipping down her arms to drop on the floor.

He sucked in a swift breath, staring at her almost reverently. Reaching out, his thumb brushed across the rosy tip of one breast. Leaning forward, he nipped it lightly with his teeth before sucking it into his mouth.

She moaned, arching against him, her hands roaming over his shoulders and back before tugging his shirt from his jeans. Her hands slipped underneath, exploring his ripped abs and taut muscles of his back.

Moving to the other breast, he licked and sucked, worshiping the delicate tip while his hand glided over her stomach to her jeans. Releasing the snap, he slid the zipper down, his hand slipping inside to cover her soft folds.

“Please, Scott…” She arched into his hungry mouth, allowing him better access to her breasts.

Lifting his head, his heart pounded at the raw need on her face. Sweeping her into his arms, he laid her on the bed. He quickly removed her jeans and panties, staring down at the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. She was perfect, everything he’d ever wanted, and for now, she was his.

Levering up, she reached for his shirt. “You have too many clothes on.”

A slight grin tipped up his mouth. “I should rectify that.” Less than a minute later, his naked body stretched out beside her, his hand stroking her silky skin.

Leaning down, he again cradled a breast, lowering his mouth to suck the stiff bud into his mouth. Sliding his hand down her body, he slipped a finger into her damp folds. Groaning at her readiness, he added a second finger, pumping in and out while his thumb massaged her clit.

He captured her mouth a moment before her muscles clamped around his fingers and she cried out in release. Moving above her, he positioned himself at her entrance.

“Look at me, sweetheart.”

Soft, glassy eyes slowly met his, a sated grin on her face.

“Last chance to change your mind.”

She reached up, stroking his stubbled jaw. “Don’t even think of stopping.”

He snagged a packet from the nightstand, opening it to roll a condom over his rigid length. Filling her in one strong stroke, he perched atop her, waiting for her inner walls to stretch, then mold around him.

Locking his gaze on hers, he pumped in and out, picking up speed as her moans increased, becoming more guttural. He was so close, but he refused to find his release before hers. Reaching between them, he continued to drive into her, touching her swollen clit. A moment later, their bodies exploded in a powerful shared orgasm.

Fuse opened his eyes to the first rays of the sun, enjoying the soft curves of the woman in his arms. Brittany’s head rested against his shoulder, an arm draped over his chest.

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d woken feeling such a complete sense of peace. Staring down at her silky blonde hair, his chest squeezed in remembrance of their short, shared past. Before the last few hours, he’d been so certain he could bottle his feelings, force himself to remember how they’d parted. He could still recall the pain their breakup had caused, and his determination never to trust a woman to the degree he had Brittany.

Carefully slipping out from under her, he leaned down, brushing a kiss against her temple. Fuse had to get his head together. Even though she’d agreed to nothing except sex, he knew it would lead to disaster. One of them would get hurt when this was over. Probably both.

Snatching his clothes from the floor, he dressed, checking her room before leaving to join the others. The smell of coffee and bacon hit him the instant he stepped into the hall. His stomach growled.

Mitch stood at the stove, cooking eggs while sipping coffee. He didn’t look up when Fuse joined him. “Sleep well?”

Picking up a cup, he filled it with coffee, leaning a hip against the counter. “Pretty good.”

“Guess that’ll have to do.” Mitch filled a plate with eggs, added a handful of bacon, then offered it to Fuse. “Gunner is doing a perimeter check. We’ve been monitoring the cameras.” He looked up. “Nothing.”

“Wrath sending over more men today?”

Mitch smiled. “Bas, Fargo, and a player to be determined.”

Chuckling, Fuse shoveled a forkful of eggs into his mouth, washing it down with coffee. “We’re getting pretty thin.”

“Kell is sending men to replace them at your house, plus Deke Caldwell is back in town and may come here to support us.”

The plan was to keep a full cadre of men at Fuse’s, drawing the attention of the Devils and Russians on that location. From the security and surveillance at both houses, the plan was working. There’d been no indication their adversaries had a clue Brittany had been moved.

“I know Deke. Good man.”

“The people at WES are the main reason I’m talking to them about merging my operation with theirs.”
