Author: Brea Alepou

“Regardless if Vygus is here, you do what you want,” River reminded Caydem. His voice was devoid of any of the emotions that ran inside of him.

They both did. River had never felt so out of control, at least not since he was young and at the mercy of those who’d kept him locked up. He shoved the darkness of those memories to the back of his mind, stuffed them into a box, and slammed a metaphorical door on it. He had no reason to remember his past, no desire to think about it.

Caydem’s fingers tightened around his neck. “Where did you go?”

River went back to focusing on his assignment. “Nowhere, and you will have to wait to eat later.”

A hearty chuckle left Caydem as he withdrew his hand from around River’s neck.

“You sure it’s me that’s hungry?” Caydem’s hand was fast, nothing more than a blur as he moved it to River’s jean-covered cock. He pressed against River’s hardened length with the heel of his palm. River bit the inside of his cheek to keep any sounds from leaving him and only allowed his fingers to stop for a second before resuming his typing. But he knew Caydem took it as his win, by the way the vampire smirked.

Caydem lifted his hand and fully backed away from River. “I’m not hungry. I have something else planned for us today.”

River’s fingers paused once more, hovering over the keyboard. That sounded too ominous for him to ignore. If Caydem had something planned, that meant less time on his assignment. The headaches he was so prone to as of late started to throb right behind his eye.

“N—”

“I wasn’t asking,” Caydem said, stopping River from talking.

Why me? River closed his eyes and squeezed the bridge of his nose, holding it for a few seconds and counting back from five. “I’m bus—”

“No isn’t an option. You either come willingly or not,” Caydem said. He picked up his suit jacket from the chair next to River and slipped it on. It hugged his muscular form perfectly. His beautiful, eerie, hazel-gray eyes set on River brooked no argument.

“I need to finish this,” River argued.

Caydem shrugged. He didn’t care, and River hadn’t expected him to. Caydem had made it very clear that he didn’t care if River finished school or not. Which was why River was at Caydem’s place instead of Vygus’s which was closer to campus. Luckily River didn’t have any classes to attend, and he was finishing up his last assignment. One he shouldn’t have, but he pushed the thought to the side and stood up knowing all too well Caydem could make things worse than they needed to be.

River still had a few hours before he needed to turn in the paper, and not to mention he was close to being done. But he liked to be thorough, to finish what he started. He allowed the supernaturals to deviate him from his test once, they both had completely taken over his schedule. River needed to draw a line at some point.

Caydem stood there with a cool presence that promised death at any moment, wearing a black-on-black suit with silver accent pieces. He was the top vampire, rich and powerful, which meant he was used to getting his way, and the only way River was going to get some alone time to work was to follow along with whatever Caydem had planned otherwise the vampire would continue to get in the way.

“Will this take more than an hour?”

“Two at max,” Caydem reassured.

River sighed but closed his laptop and packed it away.

“If it goes past the two hours, then you owe me a favor,” River said.

He figured he could get something out of it. Like maybe some quiet from two needy supernatural creatures.

A smile stretched on Caydem’s face. “Oh, and if I keep it to two hours, then what do I get?”

River thought about it. What would the vampire want that he didn’t already have? His stomach clenched as he opened his mouth.

“What do you want?”

River regretted the words as soon as they were out, but there was nothing he could do to take them back. Caydem paused, going stock-still.

“Anything I want?”

River glanced at his laptop. He did need to finish. “Anything, within reason.”

Caydem smirked, his full lips coming up slightly to show a hint of fang. “Now don’t put limitations on me,” Caydem teased.

Limitations were a must. If it were up to Caydem or Vygus, River would never leave the bedroom or their sides. The last part being truer as of late, but River decided to ignore that fact for now.

“Any wager with you is like making a deal with the devil,” River said.

Caydem let out a full, hearty laugh. “Best compliment yet.” He made sure to flash his sharp fangs.

River shook his head as he stood from the table, fixing his glasses on his face. “So what do you want?”

Caydem moved at a speed that no human eye could track. River was pressed up against the wall, a hand holding his jaw and tilting his head back so that Caydem had access to his neck.

“You make promises your body may not be able to keep,” Caydem said.

He scraped his fangs along the column of River’s neck. River squeezed his eyes shut even as his body gave an involuntary shiver and a moan slipped from between his lips.

Curse his body and the way it responded so easily to Caydem’s touch.

“You belong to me.”

Why didn’t that sound as bad as it should? River should feel utter revulsion. He didn’t want to belong to anyone, right?

“Nothing to say?”

River’s mind was a muddy mess. No words came to him, nothing that would ring true anyways. So he said nothing. All too quickly, Caydem backed up and put distance between them. River clenched his fist, refusing to reach out for the annoying vampire.

“Then let’s go. I have a bet to win,” Caydem said.

River ignored his body and followed Caydem out of the apartment. There was no one around; there was an uncanny silence within the building itself. One River couldn’t help but notice after living in the dorms with too-thin walls. Most of the residents, being vampires, were sound asleep. The only vampire up and moving was the man forcing River to go places he didn’t want to. Caydem slipped shades on as they entered the spacious elevator.

“Aren’t you supposed to be asleep?” River asked.

There were at least three more hours before the sun would be going down. Granted it was a little cloudy outside, but River had assumed all daylight was bad. Then again he’d met Caydem on a cloudy day during daylight hours. He’d never asked before, but he couldn’t quite squash the small inkling of curiosity that ran through him when he thought about what Caydem was. What about the myths were real and what was fake? River had never cared about others before. He knew he was strange by human standards, but ever since he’d admitted to wanting both Vygus and Caydem, he found himself wanting things that were uncharacteristic of him.

“Be careful. I might think you want to get to know me,” Caydem said slyly.

River disregarded the remark. “It’s to better work on when I should come here and when I should stay at Vygus’s. He’s busy today, and if I would have known, I would have opted to stay there.” Since staying in his dorm was a no-go for both of them. River had compromised and agreed to be at one or the other’s place at least until he was out of school, then he’d have to think about other living arrangements.
