Dark Angel Academy (The Complete Series)(52)
Author: G. Bailey

Now I have a big list of people to get rid of. Starting with that master vampire bastard who wants what is mine.

I will set you free, my child. My one and only saviour has fallen, and you must save her from the claws of darkness. Break the orb and let our people save her.

I jump, spinning around in the dark room, looking for the voice that spoke. A bright light burns on my neck, and I gasp as the chain falls off, and in my hand, a sword appears in gold light. The sword is pure silver, and the second my hand tightens around the handle, power courses through my veins, healing me of every injury the vampire ever gave me. Kicking the door open, I step out into the living area where my vampire captor is having a party with three other vampires. They each turn to me in shock, and I grin.

Let the game begin.

I’m going to save my best friend and make sure she knows how much I love her.

Chapter 50

Brushing my curls behind my ear, I step into Ren’s living room and see the table he has set up for us in front of the glass windows overlooking the balcony. On the table are two roses in white vases and candles in the middle, their flames flickering in the reflection of the window. I rest my hands at my sides as I run over what I need to tell Ren a million times. I’ve been a fool if I ever for once thought I would hurt or kill him...I couldn’t.

Ren is my mate...and I feel our bond, and I know his soul is good. I just have to convince him to find another way to stop this war without killing and enslaving angels. Ren steps into the room, and the atmosphere changes as he takes large strides towards me. Ren simply commands the attention of the room by being in it, from existing like there is no one else here. Confidence and masculinity drip off him even when I’m sure he doesn’t realise it, and he smirks at me as I openly check him out in his suit. His black shirt has silver buttons which catch the light and contrast off his golden skin, and his dark blue eyes make me think of the sky when you’re in a city. The light of the city makes it so you can’t see the stars, but you know they are there.

“Red is your colour, Kaitlyn,” Ren compliments, and I look down at my skinny jeans and silky red top I found in my wardrobe. It’s not mine, most likely Vesnia’s, but it fits me well, and I like to think it’s sexy.

“Black is yours,” I reply as he nods at someone behind me, and I turn to see a vampire leave the room, reappearing so quickly with two silver trays with steamy food on them. The vampire places them on the table before bowing and leaving as Ren opens a clear bottle of what I thought was wine...until I smell it.

“Is that blood?” I question.

“Yes...it is what we need to survive, you know?” he teases, and I frown at him.

“Why did I need to feed when I could have bottled blood instead?” I question, and Ren pours me a glass. It’s so gross to think about, but at the same time, all I want to do is drink it.

“New vampires, even one as unusually created as you were, need to feed for the first year from a live body, or they grow weak. Over time, like me, you grow to only feed on other beings for pleasure, and I drink cow’s blood every day. It’s only a myth that vampires need human or supernatural blood. We can survive off any animal, but sheep and cow are easier to find,” he softly explains to me, and I sip the blood. While it doesn’t taste as amazing as the guys’...it’s still good.

“I never thought I’d be okay drinking blood,” I mutter with a smile. “I used to think Bella was mad in Twilight, but now I get it.”

“Don’t tell anyone, but I liked that film,” he replies with a grin as he digs his fork into a piece of chicken on his plate and uses his knife to cut it. I dig into my own food before answering. I laugh and rest back, admiring how easy this is between us...how simple. I just hope he doesn’t hate me when I tell him the truth.

“I can’t look at you as I tell you this...can I stand behind you?” I ask, and he arches an eyebrow before nodding. Being the coward that I sometimes can be, I walk behind him and suck in a deep breath. Just as the words are about to escape my lips, a voice slams into my head.

“You betray me and you will suffer. Take the dagger and plunge it into his heart, Kaitlyn.” I nearly cry out as suddenly the dagger is in my hand, and I fall to my knees as I burst into tears.

It won’t let me go. The god is in my head!

Arms wrap around me, and I turn my head, looking up to see Ren staring at me. He slowly picks up the dagger and places it over his heart and rests my hand on it. “If you need to kill me, then do it. I’ve died before, and it was for my people. I will happily die for you, Kaitlyn. Do what you need to.”

Shock mixes in with my tears as I let the dagger go, and it falls onto the floor between us, the clang of the metal vibrating in my ears.

“No. I won’t let the angels control me anymore...not when they are wrong. I side with you, Ren. I’m going to always be at your side...and you will not die. I won’t allow it, because I need you more than I ever can admit. You’re my vampire ghost who saved me in the darkness...and I’m going to save you in yours. Just let me in, Ren...please,” I plead and slowly lift my hand to his cheek. Knowing I’m asking for so much, I’m surprised when he nods once and leans closer, resting his head against mine for a brief second.

“I don’t know how to stop,” he admits to me. “How do I save my people and stop a war? How do I save you?”

Lost for words, knowing I don’t have all the answers, I do the next best thing. I kiss Ren, pouring all my love and longing for him into the kiss I hope he never forgets.

Because I never will.

Ren kisses me back with the same amount of passion, and each fevered kiss feels stronger than the last as he picks me up in his arms, pressing my back against the glass.

“I’m sorry to interrupt—” a nervous man says as he bursts into the room. Ren slowly places me on the floor, sighing as he turns around.

“I said no interruptions, Eric,” he angrily snaps, and I feel sorry for Eric as he mumbles a few times, and I don’t understand a word he says. Neither does Ren by how furious he looks, more by every second.

“An angel has killed four vampires and is flying to the orb!” a second vampire shouts at us as he runs into the room. Ren blasts out onto the balcony, and I follow him out, looking up to see Riley flying in the air. He flies so fast, covered in blood and bites, with a sword in his hand.

“Shit, no!” Ren roars, but we are too late to do anything. No one can stop Riley now. He gets to the orb, and in one blow, he slams his sword dead into the centre of the orb, breaking the protective shield surrounding the academy and letting anyone in. For a moment, we are in a haze, watching parts of the orb shatter and fall to the academy ground before Ren turns back to the vampires standing behind us. “Get all the vampires to earth. You know where we need to meet. Now!”

Covering my cheeks with his hands, he looks deeply into my eyes. “You mean it? You’re on our side?”

“I’ve made my choice, and it’s you. It’s the vampires,” I firmly say, knowing nothing is going to change my mind now. “We need to get our people out of here, Ren.”

Before Ren can answer me, a burning light appears on the edge of the balcony in the middle of the air just as alarms go off around the academy, their noise hurting my ears. I look up and see dozens of angels on horses with spears flying down to the academy, and fear makes me freeze as Ren wraps his arm around me.
