Love Hurts (Pure Sin Trilogy #1)(5)
Author: Thetta James

“Nice meeting you as well, Ladies.”

He smiles and I swear if those dimples were any deeper, I could drown in them. April and Chassity offer their shoulders and we start heading toward the locker room. I make the mistake of looking back. He’s standing there staring at me and not just any stare. That stare has a promise in it. I’m getting flustered. I mean, how good can an ass look when you’re limping? Okay Crystal, calm the fuck down and play it cool. I give him a smile and turn back around. I can tell that he felt the same instant connection that I felt and it’s as if there was shift in my universe. The feeling is so overwhelming that my belly flutters and my breath catches in my throat. Never has a man had this type of effect on me and it’s throwing me off balance. Chassity grabs me and drags me away, laughing at my awkwardness.

“Damn, girl, he’s got you twisted up like this and all he did was help you with your ankle? I wonder how bad you’ll have it when he taps that ass?”

As if I can blush any harder!

Jackson

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a woman so beautiful! Thick waves of dark chestnut hair, perfect almond shaped eyes, and a gorgeous plump mouth. She nearly busted her ass on the treadmill and laughed about it. That smile almost knocked me over and carrying her in my arms was fucking fantastic! She smelled like warm vanilla and I feel my cock twitch when I think about how it would feel to fist her hair and kiss that luscious mouth. I can’t believe I didn’t get her number or at least her last name. I want, no, I need to see her again. Watching her walk away with her friends gave me a peek at a nice round ass, long legs, and hips that I want to see up close and personal. Fuck, she was gorgeous, and it’s been a long time since I’ve felt such an immediate connection to a woman. I have to find out who she is. I start to set up my space for my workout, but my curiosity gets the best of me and I run after her.

“Hey, Crystal!”

I know this may seem desperate, but I don’t care. Turning around, she says,

“Yes.”

“Do you think I can call you some time, maybe go out on a date…or two?”

“I would love for you to call me some time!”

She’s smiling hard, and it’s as if fireworks just went off inside my head. The detonation is intense, and I try to keep my cool because this woman is unraveling me. I can’t wait to see her again, and as we exchange numbers I promise to call her to set up a date.

“Nice meeting you Crystal.”

“Nice meeting you too, Jackson.”

Walking backwards and almost falling myself, hope begins to build inside for a happily ever after. This is what I’ve been looking for and I have a feeling that this woman is it for me. After my workout, I head to the shower and I can’t stop thinking about her. Man, those eyes and those lips are drawing me in like a moth to a flame. All I can imagine is her, under me as I lose myself, pounding into her over and over again. I pause my steps because I have a feeling that someone is watching me. I turn around to see if Crystal came back, but there’s no one there. Looking at my watch, I have just enough time to quickly shower and head downtown to the station.

Making my way to my car, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I feel a presence, but when I look around, no one is there. I unlock my door and get in. There’s a note on my windshield and I’m instantly on edge. Who would leave a random note on my window? I walk around my car looking for damage, but there is none. Opening the note, I freeze as I read the words written in bold letters, “I know you didn’t think I would let you go that easy.” Some would take this as a romantic gesture, however in my reality, it’s a threat. I think back to three years ago when I had a one-night stand with a woman named Mina. You know how you look back on your life and you have regrets? Well, she was my one regret before I left Chicago. She’s supposed to be in jail, but I have a bad feeling about this note. In a matter of a few hours, I met the woman of my dreams and already there’s a threat to that happiness. It can only be her that left this note. Now I have to figure out how this happened when she was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The station is busy as usual. Petty criminals who have nothing better to do than to make my day miserable.

“Hey, Barnes!” I hear my name before I even get to my desk. “Yeah, chief?”

“Come to my office, we have a situation.” I’m a detective at the local Santa Monica precinct and normally it’s pretty quiet. Even with the misdemeanors, it’s low key and tolerable.

“What’s up, chief?”

“Close the door and have a seat,” she says.

Police Chief Heather Monroe may be a woman, but she’s as tough as any man and she runs a tight ship. She knows the odds are against her in this world, but she doesn’t allow that to interfere with running this city.

“We received a tip that the new club in town is running drugs through its operation and I need you to go undercover to find out.”

“What’s the name of the club?” She shuffles some papers on her desk and finally says,

“Pure Sin. The owner seems legit. He’s filed all the necessary permits with the city and has all of his licenses, but we got an anonymous call that they’re filtering heroine through my city and I don’t need that headache. Go to the opening, check things out, and report back to me.”

“No problem. What type of club is it?”

“It’s your typical nightclub, but they also have a VIP section that requires membership. That’s why I need you undercover to find out what that means and if they’re funneling drugs.” I get up to leave when the chief says,

“Are you ok being back on duty?”

“Yes, ma’am, I’m good.”

Why did she have to ask if I was ok? I was finally getting to the point where I could walk in here and look at where my partner used to sit and not break down. It was so tough losing him and not bringing his killers to justice has been a heavy weight on my shoulders. His family deserves to know who took his life and they need closure. The case is still under investigation and hopefully we’ll have a break soon. For now, I turn my focus to this new case and once I have the file in hand, I sit at my desk and search for Pure Sin. They have a grand opening happening next Friday and everyone who’s anyone is going. I guess my plans are set for next week.

Chapter 5

Crystal

Waking up from a sleepless night, I drag myself to the bathroom. Thoughts of Jackson invaded my dreams, which made sleeping impossible. Running the shower, I get undressed and welcome the hot spray as it kneads my muscles. It’s not long until Jackson is once again occupying space in my head. I have never been so physically attracted to someone just by being in their presence. I just want him all over me and in me, possessing every part of my body. It’s not long until my fingers find their way to my aching core. I remove the shower head, spread my lips, and let the intense spray takeover. I move the shower head slowly back and forth, hitting my clit in a sweet rhythm that quickly brings me sweet relief. The orgasm was surprisingly very intense. I’m panting as I sink back against the shower wall. I feel sated for now, so I shower, dress, and head downstairs. The smell of coffee and bacon hits my nose and I inhale, the aroma making me think of home and lazy Saturday mornings, of family breakfasts, funny stories, and laughter.
