Staying Warm(2)
Author: Loni Ree

As I reach for it, our hands touch, and electricity shoots through my entire body. I barely catch a groan before it escapes my dry throat. Looking down, I read the information, and she’s fucking right. I glance up into her mesmerizing eyes and wink. “Hold on. I’m going to call my PA and get to the bottom of this.”

Allen answers on the first ring. “That wasn't funny. What the hell, man?”

“I’m staring at a stunning woman standing before me who has a rental agreement for this cabin also this week.” Her eyes widen as she listens to my conversation. “You need to look at my contract and make sure the realtor didn't fuck this up.”

“Holy shit.” He groans before mumbling, “Hold on.” A few moments later. “I can send you a photo of it. You’re booked for this week and next week,” Allen confirms. “I’ll call them right now and find out what the fuck is up. Then I want to hear all about the goddess.”

“I’d appreciate that, and you can dream on.” I hang up on his sputters while wondering about the weird feeling running through my chest.

Extending my hand, I smile. “I’m Mason Atwood. We should have an answer in a few minutes.”

She looks down at my outstretched palm and bites her full bottom lip. “Morgan Landry.” The same current runs through my body when our skin touches. “If you leave now, you can find a motel before it’s too late.”

Huh? I blink down at her. We only met minutes ago, but thinking about leaving her here is unimaginable to me. That weird pain is back in the center of my chest.

Chapter Two

Morgan

I stare into the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen and pray he doesn’t take me up on my suggestion to leave. Walking out of the bedroom to find this Adonis standing in my rented living room was quite a shock. My first thought was Shelly had hired one of those surprise strippers. Once he yelled at his personal assistant on the phone, I realized there was a huge mistake with the cabin lease.

I immediately regret suggesting he leave and look for a motel. His eyes narrow, and I’m waiting for his response when he holds up a hand. “My phone.” Huh? I didn't hear ringing.

He presses a button on the little headset wrapped around the back of his head and barks at whoever is on the line, “You’re fucking kidding.” He pinches the bridge of his nose and looks over at me. “Hopefully, she’s accommodating.” He winks, and my pussy begs me to welcome him to stay. “You can tell my mother whatever you damn well want.”

He presses the button again, pulls the headset off, and then drops it on the old table. “Well, I have bad news and worse news. Pick your poison.”

I place my hands on my hips and wait. “Just give it to me.”

“That was my PA. He checked with the realtor.” Mason blows out a breath. “They screwed up and booked us both for the same time.”

“Okay, that sucks. One of us will have to leave. Since I’m already unpacked, it’s only fair that I stay.” I point at my silky robe and raise an eyebrow.

“Well, I said there was worse and actually even worse still news.” He smirks. “There aren't any other accommodations for over a hundred and twenty miles.” Ouch. That’s a long way. I hate to make him drive so far tonight. While I’m debating my choices, he continues, “And the weather service just put out a weather bulletin. There’s a winter storm headed this way. The front is going to dump several feet of snow.” There are lines of strain between his eyebrows. “Neither of us would make it to another destination before it hits. We’re better off staying here and riding out the storm.” It looks like the weather has made my choice for me. There are worse things than being stuck in a secluded cabin with a hot guy. As long as he isn’t a wanted serial killer.

“Are you a mass murder or wife beater?” Darn, his marital status never even crossed my mind.

He blinks before throwing his head back and laughing. “I promise you, I’ve never killed anyone. I threaten it regularly, but I manage to resist. And I’ve never been married.” Whew. That’s a relief. Well, I hope he wouldn’t beat a woman. He leans close and runs a finger over my collarbone, causing goosebumps to break out all over my body. “I believe in protecting women. I’d kick anyone’s ass who ever laid a hand on a woman, much less the woman I love.”

I’m in love. And terrified. After walking over to the hideous lime green, vinyl sofa, I sink down and gaze at the fire. “I don’t have enough food to feed us both.”

Mason sits next to me and sighs. “I brought a trunk full of groceries and supplies. I expected to be here for two weeks.” He takes my hand and rubs the back of it. “Don’t worry, everything will be fine. Allen is going to email me a list of emergency procedures for the cabin. We’ll batten down the hatches and ride this out.” He smirks a little. “Don’t worry about staying warm. I got you covered.” He wiggles his eyebrows, and I throw back my head and laugh.

Surely, this intense attraction isn’t one-sided. I give him a smile and stand. “Let me throw on some clothes, and I’ll help you unload your supplies.”

He has an odd look for a second before he blinks and shakes his head. “Sounds good. I’ll go get started.”

I run to the bedroom and scoop up my t-shirt from the worn leather chair and pull out my sweats from my overnight bag. Since he’ll have to walk through here periodically, I grab my suitcase and frantically unload the contents into the scarred dresser. After straightening up the tiny bedroom, I rush to the bathroom and shove all my toiletries onto one shelf of the medicine cabinet and put the rest in a drawer.

Mason is stepping in the door with a large box when I walk back into the living room. “Do you need help?” I ask.

“No, this is food for the pantry.” He points to the kitchen with his head. “Do you mind putting it away while I continue bringing stuff in?”

As I follow him, my eyes wander down to his tight ass. Holy cow. This man is built. I’m staring at the way he fills out his blue jeans when he spins around and catches me red-handed. My face heats when he smirks. “I’ll be back in a few.” I swear he wiggles his fine backside a little on his way out the tiny kitchen. Fudge. I’m in so much trouble here.

It takes us a couple of hours, but we manage to unload his car and find a place for everything. “Wow, you came prepared.” I sit on the sofa and throw my feet onto the coffee table. He’s sitting next to me with his head resting on the back of the sofa. “You definitely know how to prepare for an emergency.”

Mason opens his eyes and smiles. “I wish I could take credit. I was all my PA.” He turns and looks up at the ceiling and shrugs. “The little shit knows his stuff. I swear he’s psychic or something.”

“Sounds like you guys are close.” My body aches from the exertion, and my eyes are drooping.

“I’ll tell you all about my crazy family tomorrow. Why don’t you shower while I throw together something quick for dinner? Then we can have an early night.”

Standing, I look back at him and smile. “Oh my God, a shower sounds heavenly. If you don’t mind?”
