Staying Warm

One bed. Two Strangers. And a raging storm. There’s only one way to stay warm…

The travel brochure downright lied.

This small, isolated cabin has seen better days, and those days are long gone.

It also failed to mention other occupants.

Walking in the door, I’m shocked to find a stunning, half-dressed blonde walking out of the bedroom.

She’s as shocked to see me as I am to see her. But we have to make the most of a bad situation. The realtor double-booked this place and there’s no where else to go. A winter storm is coming, and neither of us will make it out of here before it blows through.

I’m stuck sharing a tiny cabin with an adorable firecracker who makes my heart race and other parts of me stand up and take notice—not such a bad deal, after all.

While I’m keeping her warm and safe, she’s stealing my heart.

Now, I just need to convince my little hellion our love affair doesn’t end the minute the snow plow clears the road…

Chapter One

Mason

“I’m firing your ass when I get back,” I bark into the Bluetooth speaker as I drive up in front of the tiny, dilapidated cabin.

Allen’s sigh fills the rental car. “What for this time?”

“The spacious, well-maintained, private cabin on acres of wooded countryside, blah, blah, blah,” I grouse to my Personal Assistant. “The description in the realtor’s brochure is utter bullshit. This place is a dump.”

“Oops. My bad.” He doesn't sound sorry. Asshole. This is what I get for hiring family.

“One day, my mother won’t be able to save your fucking ass.” If I discover he did this on purpose, that day will come very soon. God, this place is beyond explanation, but I try. I’m sitting in my rental car, deciding if I’m brave enough to go in. “There are orange and green plaid curtains hanging in the front fucking window.”

I hear muted laughter on the other end and rub the back of my neck. “Come on, you’re shitting me?” Allen snorts. “The realtor swore it was the best place to rent in the entire area.”

I stare at the dashboard and raise an eyebrow, wishing he could see my shocked expression. “Yeah. If this is the best, then you might want to find a new realtor and a new area.” I lay my head back for a second and debate my options. Needing time away from stress and everything work-related, I asked Allen to find me a cozy cabin in the middle of nowhere. After flying into Denver and driving for four hours, I’m dead on my feet and starving. The nearest town was over an hour back, and turning around and spending more time on the road is out of the question.

“Fuck, I’m really firing you when I get home. Start looking for a new job.” I switch the phone to my wireless earphones and grab my bag from the backseat.

“Come on. You’re one spoiled ass motherfucker.” I can picture my best friend rolling his eyes back in his office. “Suck it up, princess, and relax for a week. Remember what the doctor said. Your blood pressure needs to come down or you’ll have a stroke before you turn thirty-six.”

I nearly trip on the rotting front step and close my eyes and count to ten. “This place isn’t lowering my blood pressure,” I complain. “It’s going to take a miracle to turn this vacation around.”

“Never say never.” I hear Allen rustling papers and speaking to someone in the background. “Your mom said to stop being a big baby.”

After punching in the code on the lock, I ignore his yapping and take a deep breath. I tell myself the interior has to be better than the outside and push the door open. As I glance around the tiny room, I realize I was wrong. It’s worse. Much worse. “There’s a lime green, fake leather sofa,” I groan. “And the curtains aren’t only green and orange plaid; they also have purple lines throughout the plaid.”

To my surprise, someone has lit a roaring fire in the fireplace, and soft music fills the room. “Did the realtors offer welcome service?” I wonder out loud.

“Huh?” Allen seems distracted on the other side.

“There’s a fire and music,” I explain. “Oh, and the refrigerator is full of rabbit food.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Now, I have his attention.

“Fucking yogurt and almond milk. Did you tell them I’m a fucking vegan?” I slam the door shut and lose my temper. “I swear to God, I’m really firing your ass.”

“I would never. Look, I fuck with you, but I know when to quit,” Allen promises.

A gasp has me spinning, and the world stops for a second when I see her. Blinking, I wonder if my high blood pressure has caused me to have a stroke. As she stares back at me, my cock hardens in my pants and I realize I’m very much alive. And very much in love. “My vacation just turned around. Bye.”

Her aqua blue eyes widen as I walk closer. She’s so tiny, maybe five feet tall, and has the longest, white-blonde hair. It cascades over her shoulder and down to her tiny waist. “Are you to make up for the shitty accommodations?” My phone buzzes in my pocket, but I ignore the interruption.

The gorgeous girl blinks a few times before stiffening. “What are you doing in my cabin?”

“There seems to be some mistake.” Her eyes narrow as I speak. “I rented this cabin for the next two weeks.”

She’s shaking her head before I finish explaining. “You must have the wrong dates or cabin because I rented this cabin.” She pulls her silky, red robe tighter against her body and walks past me. After grabbing a large, leather bag off the barstool, she digs for a second before shoving a paper at me. “See? This is my rental agreement and instructions.”
