“Starving!” She told him as she took off her jacket and gloves.
“Go and sit by the fire and let me warm up the fried chicken and serve the potato salad your mother gave us.”
“Okay.” She went and did as he suggested.
They ate the meal and he insisted that he did not need any help cleaning up, getting up to clear away the paper plates and putting the remainder of the meal inside the fridge before joining her. She had already taken off the thick white sweater and her black leggings when he came back.
“You have on too many layers,” she told him huskily.
“That can be easily remedied.” He murmured as he proceeded to strip off his clothes and join her. Pulling her on top of him, he guided his penis into her, the sound of their heavy breathing and sighs covering the crackle of wood from the fire.

Their son, Akhil Peter was born on a sweltering hot day in the middle of August after a long and arduous labor where Athena refused at first to take anything for the pain until her husband threatened that he was going to walk out and leave her if she did not comply. “I mean it Athena,” he had told her tersely. It had gone on for eight hours, because the baby was not crowning and he had seen the signs where she was wilting from exhaustion, the sweat popping up on her forehead as she leaned back against him for support. She had finally succumbed, and the baby had been delivered, his face screwed up in agitation as he wailed loudly.
“He has a pair of lungs on him.” The doctor said with a smile as she handed the wriggling baby to the nurse to be cleaned up.
“Is my wife okay?” Alan asked anxiously as they were examining her.
“She is fine. It has been a very long road and she is exhausted. Nothing a few hours’ sleep cannot cure.”
“I want to hold my son first.” Athena insisted.
“Of course Mrs. McGregor.”

“He is finally asleep,” Athena hid a yawn as she walked up behind her husband and wrapped her hands around his waist, leaning her head into his back and taking deep breaths. She could not believe that she was a mother. It had been a week since she had arrived home with her son and her husband had insisted on taking two weeks off to be with them. His parents had fallen in love with the baby and they had drawn closer to Athena, finally accepting her. “How about we sit out on the porch and enjoy the sunset?” it was a Saturday and the housekeeper had gone home for the day. “We have a little peace until he wakes up again and we need to enjoy it.”
“Good idea. Just let me go check on him for a few….”
“No.” She told him firmly. “You peeked in on us when I was feeding him, and you are constantly checking. It is our time now and I am going to insist.”
He turned and took her into his arms, his expression tender. “Were you always this demanding?”
“You never noticed?” She teased him. “Come on.” Pulling out of his arms, she started to drag him with her.
“I will just get a jug of lemonade and the sandwiches your mother left.”
“I am not leaving you to go and peek into the nursery.”
“Bossy,” he shook his head wryly as he planted a kiss on her lips. “But I love you anyway.”
A few minutes later while they were snuggled up together with the monitor on the table in front of them, Alan quietly counted his blessings, his arms tight around his wife’s waist.
