Even If It Hurts(15)
Author: Marni Mann

As I climbed out of the taxi, I repeated Oliver’s code in my head so I wouldn’t forget it as I rushed up to his door. I slipped off my glove to enter the five-digit code, and once the lights above the lock turned green, it unlocked.

Since I’d been here before, I knew the basic layout of the home and where the most important things were located. I just didn’t know small details, like where the light switches were. My hand banged around the wall, searching the dark entryway until I found the cold metal knob.

The inside looked exactly as it had the last time I was here. It was a bachelor pad, which meant most things didn’t have a home and it was semi-clean. None of the guys had Molly’s level of organization; that was for sure.

At the thought of her, I took out my phone and pressed the button to call her.

“Are you at his house?” she asked as she answered.

I took a seat on one of the barstools in the kitchen, resting my arm on the counter. “Yep.”

“When’s he due back?”

“They’re just waiting for their flight. It’s a short one, I believe.”

“Girl, what the hell are you going to do in the meantime?”

I shrugged even though she couldn’t see me, and I wandered over to the fridge. “He’s sending me dinner, so I guess I’ll eat and watch TV. I have no idea.” I took a beer off the shelf, found an opener in one of the drawers, and sipped it while I walked to his room. My heart pounded as I turned his doorknob. “Oh my God,” I moaned as I swung open his door.

“What, woman?”

I closed my eyes, taking a long, deep breath. “His room smells amazing.” I inhaled again, not wanting the scent to ever go away. “Whatever he sprays on his body is seriously magical.”

“I think that’s just part of being a unicorn; smelling magical is a requirement.” She giggled. “What’s his room like?”

“A king-size bed.” My eyes fell over the white comforter, remembering how it had felt when I stabbed it with my nails. “There’s a giant flat screen on the wall with books and clothes are kinda everywhere and a massive bag of soccer balls takes up an entire corner.”

“Sounds like a typical boy’s room.”

He had several framed pictures on the wall, and I went over to them. They showed him and his roommates skiing and at the beach and in pubs. There were also numerous shots of Oliver with his parents and three sisters, and more of whom I assumed were grandparents and extended family.

I headed over to the bed and took a seat on the end. “What are you doing tonight?” I could hear noise in the background.

“I’m meeting the girls for drinks, so you’re about to get in the shower with me.”

I pulled the phone away from my face to check the time, quickly doing the math. “Are you going to Sissy K’s?”

“Of course.”

A heaviness moved into my chest. When I had been able to squeeze in time to go out, that was the bar we always went to. “I really miss you.”

“Babe, you have no idea.”

Before the nostalgia really set in, there was a buzz from the front door, and I knew that meant Oliver’s food had arrived. “Gotta go. Call me when you wake up.”

“Love you.”

I slid the phone into my back pocket and hurried to the main door where the delivery driver was waiting outside. “What do I owe you?”

He handed me the bag. “All taken care of. Enjoy.”

“Thank you,” I responded and shut the door, bringing the food into the kitchen.

It smelled delicious as I set it on the counter, reaching inside the bag to remove the three containers. I pulled off the first lid and found fish and chips. The second was a meat pie. The third was a pile of warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies.

My mouth wouldn’t stop watering as I looked at all the favorites he had sent.

Me: You are so sweet. Thank you so much for dinner. I will never be able to eat all of this, but it looks amazing.

Oliver: Enjoy, gorgeous.

Oliver: Our flight is delayed. No idea what time we’ll be home. Get some sleep.

Me: Safe travels. xo

I woke to the feeling of cold. It was on my face and across my chest and lying on top of me.

“Oliver”—I shivered—“you’re an icicle.” My eyes slowly opened, and I pulled my arms out of the comforter and wrapped them around his neck.

“The heater broke in Jake’s car, so we drove back from Heathrow in a fucking freezer.” As I held him tighter, his beard grazed my cheek. “You’re so warm.”

The scent of his room had been so strong when I first got here, but it was nothing compared to smelling it fresh from his skin, the leather and lust notes I now only associated with him.

“Fuck, I missed you.”

A smile spread across my lips, and I kissed his cheek, the coldness almost sweetening his flavor. “I’m happy you’re back.”

When I’d eventually gotten into his bed, I’d taken off all my clothes, except for my panties, and put on one of his T-shirts. Each time he exhaled, it breezed down the thin cotton of his shirt, causing goose bumps to rise over my skin.

He lowered his mouth to the collar, growling as he traced all the way around my neck. “It’s so sexy that you’re wearing this.”

My head tilted back, my mouth opening as he kissed down the center of my chest. “Ahhh.”

Because his shirt was so loose, I’d tied it at the side, forcing the fabric to cling to me. I could tell Oliver had noticed, especially when his lips surrounded my nipple over the material and he sucked it into his mouth.

“Oh God.” I quivered. The texture, heat, and coolness from his mouth felt like an explosion.

“You like that.” He looked at me as he spoke, the glow from the TV lighting up his face in the dark room, a hunger tearing through his eyes.

The sight was so sexy; all I could do was moan, “Yes.”

His mouth lowered down my stomach, his hands framing my sides until he reached the only other fabric that was covering me. I felt his lips press against the center of my panties, and then a blast of warm air ricocheted through me.

“I’ve wanted to taste this for days.”

“Oh God.” My head ground into the back of the pillow, my heels doing the same to the mattress while I tried to find air.

He spread my thighs even more, continuing to breathe against me, each burst causing me to wriggle beneath him. The anticipation of his tongue was almost too much to bear, and with his face still so cold, it only added to the intensity I was already feeling.

“Oliver,” I hissed when he slid my panties to the side, his tongue instantly swiping me.

He licked to the top and dropped all the way down. Then, his fingers moved through the wetness, and I was experiencing a whole different kind of full.

Enough days had passed that I was no longer sore, so each dip of his finger began to feel better and better, and combined with his mouth, he was bringing my body to a place I couldn’t return from.

He must have sensed it because he started to move faster, adding even more pressure when he gave me a second finger. The tingling was taking over, a fierce build in my lower stomach that was stretching across me, tensing my body before it erupted.
