Carrying Blaze's Mark(4)
Author: E.C. Land

Worse as her doctor, I feel responsible for anything that could happen to her.

As her heart rate dropped, I knew I made the wrong call by not taking her in for an emergency cesarean. Something’s happening to her and it wasn’t anything to do with her bleeding out. Delivery went well. No, it was something else and I needed to get her into the OR and out of Blaze’s reach so that I could figure it out. If he’s in the room with her it’s going to make my job more difficult. He’s even more protective of Raven than Tracker is of Victoria.

I’ve known both women for years now and I’m not ready to lose one of them. I was a godfather to Victoria’s son, my significant other, Raul, is Matthew’s and we’re supposedly both supposed to be the godfathers for the newest addition.

“Take care of her,” Blaze commands.

“I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure she gets through this,” I confirm and immediately follow the nurses, sending a prayer as I do so that Raven makes it through whatever’s going on and that Blaze doesn’t lose his soulmate.

Chapter Four

Blaze

It takes everything in my power to keep my knees from collapsing underneath me as Alverez and the team of nurses wheel Raven away from me yet again.

“Sir, if you would like you can come with your son to the nursery,” the older nurse holding Mark says.

There’s nothing else I can do right now. Raul came in and is taking care of Matthew for me while being watched over by my brothers. After the ordeal with the house going up in flames, I’m not about to take any chances. Not by a long shot.

Nodding I follow the nurse into the nursery where she puts a bracelet around his ankle. She then turns around and asks for my wrist. “You’ll need this to be able to come in here and be with him,” she says. I’m allowed a few more moments in there with him before being asked to leave the nursery while they take care of a couple things for him.

Leaving, I go out to the waiting room to give an update. My emotions are all over the place and I’m not sure how I feel right now besides numb to the thought of possibly losing my ol’ lady.

I’m bombarded nearly the moment I’m through the doors.

“How is she?”

“The baby okay?”

Question after question is thrown at me and I’m unable to speak a single word.

“What’s going on with my sister?” I lift my head to meet the voice of the man it belongs to. My brother-in-law, Pitch Black. I’m surprised to see him here but at the same time glad for it.

Clearing my throat, I run a hand through my hair. “Mark’s great. They’re doing some stuff with him now, a bath or something,” I mutter, closing my eyes. “Raven.” The words refuse to come out of my mouth.

“She okay?” Pitch Black asks.

I open my gaze in order to meet his gaze. “I don’t know. Alverez took her to the OR due to her heart rate dropping.”

“Shit, this is what Mamma meant by being here for Raven,” Pitch Black mutters, placing his hands on his hips while lowering his head with a slight shake.

“What happened?” This time it’s Tyres, Pitch Black’s VP, to ask. “We went by your place. Firemen were gathered around, and smoke was filtering through the open-door space.”

“Someone blew up our house,” I growl.

“Don’t worry, brother. We’ll find them,” Stoney states, his ol’ lady cradled in the crook of his arm. I’m surprised to see her here after what she went through. Then again you couldn’t keep her away. She’d have found a way to get up here if she needed to. Plus, Prez doesn’t like to have her out of his sights. Not after everything. Nearly losing someone will do that to a person.

I give Stoney a quick nod, turning my attention to Raul. “He okay?” I ask wanting to make sure he wasn’t wheezing or anything. The doctor cleared him, saying he was good but to bring him back downstairs if he starts acting out of normal.

“Yeah he’s okay, I was able to get him to eat some num-nums I brought with me. They were in the spare diaper bag Raven keeps at our place in case she forgot to pack something,” Raul says, pointing to the bag at his feet.

I give him a sharp nod. “Good. I’m gonna get back to check on Mark and see if I can get an update on Raven.”

“She’ll be okay,” Victoria says stepping forward.

“Yeah, when she makes it through this, she’ll be kicking everyone’s ass demanding to get her hands on the person responsible for y’alls house as well,” Tracker states, pulling his ol’ lady into his front.

“I’m coming with you,” Pitch Black announces leaving no room for rebuttal. Not that I would argue. It’s his sister and his nephew on the other side of the door.

Without responding to him, I head for the locked doors and push the button. Soon as it opens, I step through with my brother-in-law right behind me.

I make my way over to the nurses’ station.

“Can I help you?” one of the nurses asks, glancing between Pitch Black and myself with a seductive smile in place. “I’m Lisa.”

“Don’t care who the fuck you are. I wanna know how my wife is doing,” I snap.

Lisa jumps at the sharp tone of my voice. “Who is your wife?” she asks cautiously.

“Raven Morgan. She just had a baby, they took her to OR and my son is in the nursery.” Holding up the bracelet I show it to her.

She furrows her brow and looks at the bracelet and then calls another nurse over. “Yevette.”

What the fuck?

“Doctor Alverez is just about done and will be out to speak with you momentarily. But if you will, tell me who put that bracelet on your wrist.” Something about the way Yevette says this causes not just me but Pitch Black, as well, to stiffen.

“I don’t know, an older nurse. Alverez asked my wife to let one of the nurses hold the baby and it was her. She held him while they rushed her out of the room. I followed her to the nursery where I watched her put the bracelet on my son then she gave me one,” I state, placing both hands on the countertop separating us from the nurses.

“Sir, not to alarm you, but we need to call the police, I don’t know who or how this has happened, but no one should have been able to get into the nursery other than myself, Lisa, and two other nurses,” Yevette says already picking up the phone to place the call.

My vision blurs and rage starts to take hold.

“You telling me, my nephew isn’t in the nursery?” Pitch Black snarls.

“I’m sorry, sir, but there’re no newborns in there as of yet. The babies that are in there were from yesterday and throughout the night,” Lisa says, sympathy lining her face.

Motherfucker.

Then it hits me. What if the person responsible for the explosion at our house is the one responsible for taking my son?

Chapter Five

Blaze

As the nurses call the police, I sent Pitch Black back out to the waiting room to grab my Prez, VP, and Nerd.

“What’s going on?” Stoney asks, his face a mixture of confusion.
