Falling for Dr. Kelly A Falling novel(20)
Author: DL Gallie

She looks up and when her eyes lock with mine, she smiles at me and the grin that was already on my face increases. Walking over to them, I bend down and place a kiss on her head. “Avery, you’re still here.” My voice is laced with surprise, because I am. I didn’t expect her to wait around for me.

She nods. “Yep, I had no other plans this morning so thought I’d hang around and wait. While waiting, I met Mr. Marshall here, and he helped me pass the time.” Looking to the man, I nod.

“Marvin Marshall,” he says offering me his hand.

“Flynn Kelly,” I reply as I shake his hand, but before we can chat more, a nurse comes barrelling over to the three of us. “Marvin Marshall,” she scolds, “we have been looking everywhere for you.” She stops next to me and is glaring at Marvin.

“You said I couldn’t go outside the hospital. Last time I checked, the ER waiting room was inside the hospital.” He air quotes inside. Avery and I both laugh, until we see the look on the nurse’s face.

“Dr. Kelly,” she sternly says in greeting.

“Hi, Helen,” I reply, “How are you?”

“Better now I found this one.” She hooks her finger toward Marvin. “I swear the older they get, the worse they become.”

“I heard that,” Marvin says.

“You were meant to,” Helen spits back at him.

Marvin leans over to Avery and not so quietly quips, “I think I’m in trouble but to spend the morning with a gorgeous girl like you, it's totally worth it.” He winks at her before he turns his attention to me. “Look after this one,” nodding his head toward Avery, he states, “she’s a keeper.”

“I think you’re right, Marvin,” I reply, my gaze on Avery’s as I say this. Her cheeks tinge that lovely shade of pink I love seeing on her.

“We need to get you back to your room, Marvin,” Helen says.

Avery stands up first and offers her hand to Marvin. With a bit of a struggle, he stands up and steps toward Helen. Avery reaches out to stop him. She squeezes his arm and when he turns to face her, she leans down and places a goodbye kiss on his cheek. His face lights up like a Christmas tree and I think this morning is the highlight of his year. “Goodbye, Marvin.”

“Bye, Avery.” Marvin and Helen walk away. Helen walking slowly to aid a shuffling Marvin. Marvin mumbles something that garners him an evil-eyed stare from Helen. Both Avery and I laugh as we watch them exit the ER.

Stepping to Avery, I brush a tendril of hair behind her ear. “You really are something, Avery Evans.”

“A good something, I hope,” she shyly replies.

“A very good something.” Leaning down, I place my lips against hers for a quick kiss. It turns heated and not really appropriate for the ER, but I don’t care. If I want to kiss Avery, I’ll kiss Avery no matter the location. Pulling back, I rest my forehead on hers. “Give me ten to change, then I can meet you at my place?”

She nods her head. “I like that plan.”

Kissing the tip of her nose, I turn and go change. Ten minutes later, I’ve changed and I’m racing to my car. Traffic is light this morning, surprisingly, and I make it home in good time. When I arrive, I park in my spot and rather than wait for the elevator, I take the stairs, two at a time, and make my way up to the lobby to meet Avery.

Stepping out, I smile when I see Avery waiting for me. She’s leaning against the front desk, chatting with Max.

“Good morning, Dr. Kelly,” Max says when he sees me.

“Morning, Max.” Turning my attention to Avery, I ask, “You ready?”

“Yep.” She turns to Max and says, “Have a great day, Max.”

“You too, Ms. Evans.”

“Please, call me Avery.” He nods at her and she picks up a tray of coffees and we walk toward the elevators. Lacing my fingers with hers, we fall into step with one another as we head toward the elevators. The doors open and a delivery guy exits, we step in and I press the button for the penthouse.

“Hope you don’t mind, I stopped and got coffee for me and a tea for you on the way here.”

“Not at all, I’m just happy to have you here, the hot drinks are just a bonus.”

“I won’t stay long as I know you need to sleep.”

“I’d love to sleep with you.” She eyes me. “Not like that, you fiend, in the literal close your eyes sleep sense BUT if that was to happen, I wouldn’t complain.” I pause and then add, “I love waking up with you in my arms.”

“Well, since I got a full night’s sleep. How about I lie with you while you drift off and then I’ll come back later this afternoon?”

“OR you can just spend the day at my place so you are here when I wake up?”

“Really?” she asks and I nod in reply, “Okay, sure, why not. Just for you, I’ll spend the day lazing around in a gorgeous penthouse.”

“Perfect.” Leaning down, I press a kiss to her temple and breath her in.

We are quiet for the rest of the trip. Entering the penthouse, Avery heads to the living room and sits on the sofa. Taking a seat next to her, she hands me my tea. We drink them in silence. Once finished, Avery tidies up and I grab a quick shower since I didn’t have one before leaving the hospital. When I step out of the en suite I smile when I see Avery is in my bed. She’s slipped into one of my shirts, and can I say, I love seeing her in my clothes. She’s reading on her iPad. She looks up and the vision before me is indescribable.

Grinning down at her, I walk around the bed in nothing but my towel, when I reach my side, I drop the towel to the floor and stand there. Her gaze drops from my face and is now locked on my cock. I stand beside the bed and stare at her. She looks up at me, her cheeks once again pink, and with a wink, I pull back the covers and climb in next to her.

Draping my arm across her stomach, I snuggle into her side as she sits in bed and continues to read. She begins massaging my scalp and soon slumber overtakes me. I fall into a deep blissful sleep, snuggled into Avery.

It’s mid-afternoon when I wake again. Reaching out, my hand meets a cold sheet, Avery isn’t in bed and a wave of sadness washes over me. I really thought she’d stay and then I hear noise coming from the living room. Slipping on a pair of sweats, I follow the sound and stop midstep. From my spot in the hallway, I watch Avery. She’s in her own little world, singing along to “Wolves” by Selena Gomez playing from her iPod, which she’s connected to my speaker system.

Leaning against the wall, I cross my arms and watch as she swings her hips and wipes down the kitchen counter, oblivious to me watching her. The song changes to “Havana” by Camila Cabello and she seductively sways her hips from side to side. My cock twitches at the sight of her ass swishing from side to side. She’s still wearing my shirt and I find myself grinning at the sight before me. Taking a deep breath, my smile increases when the most amazing, sweetest scent ever to come from my kitchen envelops me. That’s when I notice a tray of decadent-looking iced cupcakes sitting on the counter, waiting for me eat.

She finally notices me and jumps in fright. She squeals, and brings her hand to her chest.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
