“Is she the one that runs Blank Space Entertainment?” Pepper asked.
“Yes. She’s the one who hooked me up with Johnny Butthead.” Jillian winced. “I mean, Johnny Bad. I’d better stop doing that before spring, when I go to New York to meet with him!” She let out a little squeal. “His tour is back on, and guess who’s designing his wardrobe?”
Amber and Trixie exchanged uneasy glances.
“Congratulations,” Pepper said. “But didn’t he jerk you around before?”
“Yes, and she was pissed at him,” Trixie said.
“I still am,” Jillian said far too happily. “But that’s not going to stop me from designing his wardrobe. This is a huge boon for my business, and it gives me time to do a little matchmaking for you know who before I get swept up in the project.” She looked across the room at Jax, talking with Nick. “Apparently sparks flew between Jax and a potential client, and he’s been off his game ever since.”
“Be careful, Jilly,” Trixie said. “You might be twins, but Jax is pretty private about his personal life. He might not appreciate matchmaking.”
Jillian smirked. “We’ll see about that, and then we’ll see about Johnny Bad.”
“Well, I’m thrilled about your new endeavor. Congratulations,” Amber said. “I hope it works out this time.”
Jillian arched a finely manicured brow, looking as fierce as she was petite. “It will. I’m going to march in there and give Johnny a piece of my mind. When I’m done with him, he’ll never jerk me around again.”
“If you came after me like that, I’d behave,” Pepper said. “Congratulations.”
“He seemed pretty arrogant when I met him,” Amber said. “I wouldn’t expect him to back off as easily as Pepper. I think you might be about to meet your match.”
“Oh, please. You’ve seen me in action. Shutting him down will be like taking candy from a baby.” Jillian wrinkled her nose. “Wait, that’s not easy, is it? It’ll be like…”
“Fireworks!” Pepper exclaimed.
“Right. And I’m lighting them!” The band began playing “Single Ladies,” and Jillian danced in place. “I need to work off some of this energy. Come on, let’s take over the dance floor.”
Amber saw Dash heading her way. “Actually, I think my dance partner is on his way over.”
“That man looks like a tiger on the prowl. I’m totally jealous,” Jillian said, and then she and the others headed to the dance floor.
As Dash approached, his dark eyes said, I love you and I want you, just as Amber was sure hers did. Her time of sitting on the sidelines, watching life pass her by felt like they’d happened in another lifetime. She loved being the envy of all those single ladies, and her dashing prince was everything she could ever want and so much more.
“Excuse me, beautiful. Is your name Amber?”
“Why, yes, it is,” she played along, loving this side of him.
“Your name is written all over my dance card. Think you can fit me in?”
“I’m not sure. My card is kind of full,” she teased.
“Damn.” He puffed out his chest and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his thick forearms. “Maybe this will convince you.” He dipped her over his arm, kissing her sweet and slow, leaving her breathless and Jell-O-legged. He steadied her on her feet, flashing a cocky grin. “What do you say?”
“I can fit you in, if there are more of those on the horizon.”
“I think that can be arranged.” He led her to the dance floor and spun her around as they danced to the end of the song. When the band began playing “Rewrite the Stars,” he held her close, swaying to the music, whisper-singing the lyrics with so much emotion, she got teary-eyed.
“You requested that song, didn’t you?” She had a feeling there was nothing he wouldn’t do for her. “I feel like the belle of the ball again.”
“You’re not just the belle of an occasional ball, sweetheart. You’re going to be the belle of our entire wonderful life.” He twirled her around, then pulled her close again. “Buckle up, my beautiful wild thing. We’re just getting started.”
