Badger's Claim (Devil's Riot MC #7)(22)
Author: E.C. Land

I didn’t know how she would react to my story, but I’m thankful for having told her. It was as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders as she was able to tell her story, this time not leaving anything out. By the time she was finished, I knew she was mentally exhausted. This morning has definitely been one for the books. We went from mind-blowing morning sex to being bombarded by the ol’ ladies of the club only to relay our pasts to not just each other but the three others in the room.

“I think we’ve got everything we need for now,” Twister says softly, though his features don’t match one bit. No, he’s pissed and ready to explode, right with the rest of us.

Hearing my woman tell us more in-depth about all she’s experienced has me seeing red.

“Deirfiúr, it kills me that we didn’t know none of this shit,” Dragon rasps.

“You wouldn’t have been able to stop it. As it is, I signed my own death warrant last night by lying to Kayne,” Jordan murmurs.

“Honey, as I see it, you didn’t lie. The moment you nodded your head, you said ‘I do’ and that right there ain’t lying, especially when not even five minutes later Gadget hands over a copy of a marriage certificate.” I cup her cheek, wiping the remnants of the tears from her face.

“Well, either way, I still signed my own death warrant. Kayne won’t stop until he gets what he wants. Since I’m no longer a virgin,” she says with a blush rising on her cheeks as she focuses on me. “I’m not worth anything to him any longer and according to the contracts that these men use, it says death is by right of the man done wrong. I defied the entire thing and if he doesn’t, then someone will.”

“I think we need to speak with Dean,” Gadget grumbles from where he’s sitting on the couch, eyes glued to the screen of his laptop while his fingers fly across the keys.

“Agreed. Badger, why don’t you take Jordan to your room to rest or to wherever the women are huddled up. I’ll find Horse, hopefully not fucking my sister, and meet you all in church. We can call Dean from there,” Twister orders.

Nodding in agreement, I hold my hand out to help Jordan out of the chair. “Come on, babe, I’ll show you to my room. You can lay down if you want or chill out.”

“Okay. I honestly feel like I could use a nap,” she says though stops and turns toward her brothers. “Do you think we can start over? Maybe I can be an aunt to Lo and the twins.”

“Jordan, you’ve always been their aunt. Lo, Kagan, and Keegan are your family. When this shit is taken care of, I’m sure Doc is gonna demand your presence at the dinner table the way she does Hades and Emerson,” Gadget chuckles as I groan. I love my sister-in-law but Connors can be a little nutty when it comes to these dinners. It’s one of the reasons I’ve avoided her invites so far.

“Good luck trying to get out of it. Emerson tried once and let’s just say it didn’t go well when Doc found out Hades and Emerson skipped dinner to meet up with Ricochet when he was visiting. Even he got an ass-chewing,” Dragon adds.

At their words, the tension Jordan seemed to be holding onto evaporated as she accepted the truth.

She wasn’t alone.

By the time I got Jordan settled in my room and made it to church, everyone was already seated.

“She okay?” Twister asks as I take my seat.

“Yeah, Prez, she’ll be okay. Think she will finally be able to heal knowing she’s not alone,” I say.

“What the fuck? Your ol’ lady was never alone in this,” Horse grumbles. Guess he’s still pissed over the way he found out about Kenny being pregnant.

As that thought popped in my head, another follows right behind with an image of Jordan rounded with my kid. Fuck, do I even want kids? The idea of it being with Jordan doesn’t scare me as it has in the past when the thought of having a kid was only a repeat of what I went through. I know without a doubt I wouldn’t have to worry about that with Jordan.

“We knew she wasn’t, though Jordan didn’t,” I tell him as I inwardly shake my head, needing a clear mind for what’s to come.

“Listen up, brothers. We’ve got a lot to go over. One being needing to speak with Dean. I shot him a text requesting he come to the clubhouse rather than doing this over the phone. We need him to clarify some of the information Jordan gave us. It’s fucked up. You all heard her last night.” Twister grimaces as he goes on to relay the information Jordan gave us. Gadget spoke up when needed, giving information he found as he continued to focus on his laptop.

“What’s wrong with these douchebags?” Burner grumbles. “It’s like all the shit we dealt with when it came to the satanic cults wasn’t enough, someone decided to dump this shit in our laps. Did one of us piss off the universe or something?” Throwing his hands up in the air, he leans away from the table.

“Gotta say, I agree with you there. Shit just seems to keep happening,” Rage grunts.

“Agreed,” Thorn mutters. “And I’m just gonna go ahead and throw this shit out there. I don’t need more shit happening, not when Lynsdey is pregnant. Last time was scary enough, not wanting shit to happen again.”

“Fuck, your woman too,” Horse asks.

“Yeah, let’s just say I’m not letting that woman out of my sight unless I have to. Not letting history repeat itself. I almost lost not just her but Bud and my princess.” I don’t blame my brother one bit. They went through hell because of that sick fuck Jake. He didn’t just hurt Lynsdey but Cleo too.

“Well, fuck, guess it’s as good of a time as any since it seems all the women are getting knocked up. Emerson’s pregnant too,” Hades says.

“I’m just gonna need to keep my shit locked down tight. Something in the water or you all trying to have kids with the same birthday as Horse and Twister’s daughters or some shit?” Burner asks.

“Shut up, Burner,” Twister snaps. “Now, let’s get back to business. We’ve got some other shit to discuss while we’re waiting on Dean to get here. Grigory has a shipment coming in two weeks for us. We need to be on our game. Up until this shit with Jordan, it’s been quiet. The Dragon’s Fire MC may be out of commission, but that doesn’t mean they’re gone completely, and we can’t forget the Diaz Cartel tried to start shit awhile back. I know we’ve talked about it before, but I just want to throw out reminders. Don’t let your guard down when it comes to safety.”

“Prez is right. We need to keep our guard up. We may not have had anything happen in a while when it came to our runs. That doesn’t mean one of the smaller charters to the Dragon’s Fire MC won’t try to come after us, even if it’s been a year. They could be biding their time. Same goes with the Diaz Cartel. Miguel Diaz hid for years only to pop his head out of the sand, then disappear again,” Rage states. From what I’ve learned, Rage has some hard feelings when it comes to the Diaz Cartel. I don’t blame him considering what Miguel did to his sister.

“Stupid fucker best not pop his head back out,” Burner grinds out through clenched teeth.

“Alright, let’s get back on task. We need to figure out who’s gonna stay behind and who goes,” Twister says, drawing the attention back to him.
