Callous Player (Westfall U #3)(43)
Author: R.C. Stephens

“That would probably be best for our first time. Until I figure out what I’m doing,” she says softly. My dick pulsates from her words.

“Okay.” I move above her but first I reach down and roll her nub with my finger and thumb until I have her breathing fast again and her hips roll with my hand. I lean over her and slowly insert my cock inside her. “Tell me if it’s too much.”

“It’s good,” she swallows.

My cock is large and thick because I’m a big guy, and Poppy is warm and so tight that she feels amazing. I close my eyes and breathe slowly as I enter her. “You okay?” I manage to grit out.

“You don’t have to be scared to move,” she assures.

I take a breath and thrust inside her. “You feel so good.” I thrust again and have to take another deep breath so I don’t lose it.

I reach down and rub her clit a little with my hand. That seems to ease her muscles and I roll my hips again. It feels smoother as I roll her clit again and roll my hips. She begins to move too so I remove my hand and I thrust on an angle I know is hitting her G-spot. She tips her head back and I pick up the pace thrusting in and out. In and out.

She begins to grab my ass and push me inside her harder and so I pick up my pace even more. She detonates like a firecracker and I fall right behind her as my balls tighten and I come like a fucking rocket. Our bodies move in rhythm as we fuck our brains out and then I fall beside her breathing hard.

“That was. . .” She’s speechless.

“I hope I didn’t hurt you,” I say.

“You didn’t. At first a little and then it stung but then it felt so good,” she says with excitement in her voice.

“Let me get you a damp cloth.” I get out of bed and head to the bathroom where I discard the condom and grab a towel. I wait for the water to warm and then I bring the cloth back to bed and place it between her thighs.

She watches me carefully. “Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me.”

“You’re taking such good care of me.”

“I think there’s some blood,” I say, looking at the white towel.

“That’s to be expected from what I’ve heard.” She smiles.

“Do you want me to run you a bath? I don’t want you to be in pain.”

“Only if you’ll come in with me,” she replies.

“Okay.” I stand up and fill the bath for us.

When it’s full, I guide her to the bath and allow her to get in first. I get in after her and she leans on my body.

“This is really nice.” She grins with her head against my chest.

TWENTY-EIGHT

Declan

I walk over to Cole and Holland’s from the hockey house. It’s a crisp fall day and I’m second-guessing going to them for Thanksgiving dinner for the hundredth time. One, because I feel like an ass that Holland has kept this whole business about my brother a secret, and two, I’ve been keeping secrets from Cole and Wolfe all along.

Before I met Poppy, I was in this downward spiral of lies. I felt like I had to lie to get by, to survive, to not be judged. Now looking back on it, I see the error of my ways. But will my friends forgive me if I tell them the truth? Will they be as understanding as Poppy? Will they want to throw me to the curb? They deserve to know I’m a lying asshole. My stomach turns more, the closer I get to their house. I’m mostly scared of the rejection I’ll feel if they don’t accept my apology. I know if I admitted that out loud to Poppy, she would somehow connect it back to my father leaving us. To me feeling rejected by both of my parents. It’s a feeling I try to avoid like the plague and maybe that’s why I fell down the rabbit hole of lies.

Stop analyzing everything and get your shit together.

I take a deep breath. This is it. I’m here. I knock. Cole answers the door.

“So you decided to come,” Cole greets me and I shake his hand.

“Yeah, man, thanks. My family had Thanksgiving dinner last week since my dad has to travel for work this year.” The words fly out of my mouth before I have time to stop them. This has got to stop. I can’t go on like this. For one, I feel like it’s eating my insides to lie at this point. These people have been good to me. I don’t want to be this callous anymore.

“Cool. Glad you could make it,” he says, patting me on the back. He steps out of the way and I follow him into the house.

Everyone is here. I say hi to Rebel, Wolfe, Holland, Blossom, Paris, and her kid, Max, and Cait. I’m kind of surprised Cole’s dad isn’t here since they are on good terms now but maybe it’s better that way. How would I explain knowing Dr. Steele? There’s no way I could ignore the woman after her selfless act of kindness.

CC crawling all over the place draws my attention. She’s grown so much. She interacts with all the guests, including Rebel’s dog, Lola, who licks up CC’s face.

“Is that sanitary?” Holland asks Rebel.

“She’s a clean dog. I only allow her to sniff certain dog butts,” Rebel snickers.

“Ew! Gross,” Holland says, scrunching up her face.

Granny Mae comes out to the main room and Cole introduces me officially.

“Nice to finally meet you in person,” I say.

“You too, dear.” She smiles.

We sit around the table and start to eat.

“It’s time for our usual tradition,” Cole says to the table, and then he smiles down at Holland and I see the love there. I’m finally getting what these two feel for each other because, hell, I’m pretty sure I’m falling in love with Poppy.

Cole begins, “I’m thankful for this woman by my side. She has brought light and love into my life. Sometimes I think she knows me better than I know myself. She is an amazing mother and lover,” he says, and Holland smacks him in the chest and then covers her face. “What?” he asks, feigning innocence, but he’s chuckling so he’s basically being Cole.

“Just be serious,” she says, covering half her face. He nods and mutters something quiet to her.

Cole continues and then it’s Holland’s turn. She goes on about how much Cole and CC mean to her and, though her life took an unexpected turn, she is truly happy and feels like she has a loving family, which is worth more than anything.

Her words make me go inside my head and I watch Rebel and Wolfe saying something but I’m not listening because Logan and I never really experienced family or nice Thanksgiving meals. I’m pretty sure we must have skipped a few Thanksgivings all together growing up because either Mom wasn’t around, or preparing a plate of pasta for Thanksgiving was just depressing.

Paris’s kid stands and he mentions missing his father. This little kid is able to get up and express his feelings and it makes me feel like a coward. I have never been good with feelings. Suppressing my feelings and lying about my situation has been my go-to for so long. Cait is up next and she is thankful for her family and their support.

The doorbell rings. “That’s probably my dad,” Wolfe says, standing quickly.

Everyone waits and then the governor walks in. Everyone stands up because he’s the freaking Governor of Massachusetts.

“No need to make a big deal. My apology, Granny Mae,” he says to her.
