Runaway (Empire High #5)(41)
Author: Ivy Smoak

“So is this supposed to teach me some kind of lesson about not putting snow down your clothes? Because I’m learning quite the opposite.”

“Fair point.” His fingers stopped.

Damn it, why had I said that? I didn’t want him to stop.

“This is probably a better lesson.” He grabbed a handful of snow and shoved it right against where his fingers had been.

“What the hell!” I shrieked. “You’re going to give my naughty bits frostbite!” I tried to wriggle out of his grip, but he was still holding me to him.

“That was your punishment. But I think you’ve learned your lesson. How about I warm you up?” He flipped me over, cradling my ass in his hands so I wouldn’t touch the ice.

I was freezing, but something about the fire in his gaze made me stop moving. He slowly lowered his mouth to the snow he’d just shoved between my legs. He thrust his tongue inside of me, pushing some of the snow with it.

I screamed. “It’s so cold! Miller…” but my voice trailed off. Because it suddenly wasn’t cold anymore. All I could feel was his hot tongue between my thighs, lapping up the snow off my skin. Replacing the feeling of cold with unbelievable warmth.

One of his hands still had a glove on it, so when he pulled me even closer to his face, the rough material scratched my skin. It burned. It felt amazing. I didn’t even know how to describe…

He thrust his tongue even further.

“Miller.” I grabbed the top of his hat to pull him closer. But it wasn’t necessary. He was licking me like he was eating his favorite flavor of water ice. I’d thought last night had been hot. But this? I was seconds away from coming and he’d barely even started.

He groaned like he couldn’t get enough. Like he’d never get enough of me.

I felt my thighs tightening around him.

“I love the taste of you.”

It wasn’t the confession of love I’d been waiting to hear. But it was good enough right now.

He brushed the tip of his nose against my clit as he thrust his tongue even deeper inside of me.

“Miller!” I felt myself pulsing around his tongue. Fuck. My fingers dug into the back of his neck as he kept swirling his tongue inside of me. I never wanted him to stop. I never wanted this moment to end. I’d be happy to spend eternity right on this ice with him. Even in the freezing cold there was nowhere else I’d rather be.

He groaned and placed one last stroke against me before lifting his face from my skin. He pulled my sweatpants back up and wiped the wetness off his chin. “Did you learn your lesson?”

I moved to my knees and grabbed the waistband of his pants. “Yes. But it’s only fair that now I get to cover you in ice and lick you like a popsicle.”

“Yeah…” he caught my hand before I reached into his sweatpants. “Guys don’t work like that. It’s cold. So he’s not having it.”

“Really? Even after what we just did?”

He raised his eyebrow at me. “I would never lie about such things.”

I pulled the waistband of his sweatpants anyway and peered inside. “Hey there, Little Dicky.”

“You’re so dead.” He started to make a snowball.

I scrambled to my feet. “I call a truce!”

He didn’t stop making his snowball, so I started to run, my feet skidding along the ice.

“Brooklyn wait!”

I ran faster, my feet finally adjust to the sleek ice.

“Stop!” he yelled. He sounded really upset.

Probably because he couldn’t reach me with his snowball. I took another step and I heard the ice crack. I froze, but my feet skidded farther. The sickening sound of the ice cracking echoed around me.

“Don’t move,” Miller said.

Some cold water started coming through the cracks, soaking my sneakers. I wasn’t fucking going anywhere.

“I’ve got you,” Miller said calmly as he took a step on the cracking ice. The sound grew worse. “Shit.” His feet froze. “I need you to get down on your hands and knees, Brooklyn.”

“What?”

“I’ve got you, okay? But I need you to get down on all fours. I need you to trust me.”

I didn’t even hesitate to follow his instructions this time. Of course I trusted him. I got down on my knees, not caring about the cold water biting my skin.

“Crawl toward me, okay. Really slowly.”

“I can’t.” My heart was pounding against my ribcage. I can’t.

“Look at me, kid.”

I slowly looked up from the ice and into his eyes.

“Just crawl toward me really slowly. I’m right here. Just look at me. You’re going to be okay.”

I moved slowly, the ice making terrible cracking noises the whole time. I was almost at him when there was a loud crack. My feet went into the freezing cold water first. And then my whole body slid backward. “Miller!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

I wasn’t even sure how he reached me, but he grabbed my hands and pulled me out of the freezing cold water right before I slipped under the ice.

My heart was pounding as I clung to him. “You saved me.” My whole body was wet and shivering. But his arms were so comforting. It was like my heart instantly stopped pounding so fast when he held me like this.

He didn’t respond. He just held me tightly.

“You saved me,” I said again.

He still didn’t respond.

I didn’t know how he got us safely off the ice. But before I even know it, we were back inside. It didn’t matter that there was a roaring fire though. I was still shivering.

He carried me into the bathroom and turned on the showerhead before setting me down on my feet. “Get in there.”

I didn’t want him to leave me. “Can’t we warm up by the fire together?”

“Get in the water before you get frostbite.”

Didn’t he see that he was the one shaking now, not me? “Then come with me.” I grabbed his hand.

He cursed under his breath and pulled off his wet clothes, before pushing me backward into the shower. I was still fully dressed, but the hot water felt like flames against my skin. He helped me get all my layers off, pushing them into a heap in the corner. If anything, I was too hot now. But Miller was still shaking.

I put my hand on his chest. He felt perfectly warm. “You’re not cold anymore,” I said. “Why are you shaking?”

He ran his fingers through his wet hair, and he looked up at the showerhead. “I almost lost you.”

“But you didn’t. You saved me.” I grabbed both sides of his face and tilted his head back down to me so I could look into his eyes. “I’m okay.” I stood up on my tiptoes and kissed him. “I’m okay,” I whispered against his lips.

“I only just got you back,” he said.

“I’m not going anywhere.” I left a trail of kisses across his jawline and down the side of his neck. “I promise.”

He sighed and pulled me against his chest.

We just held each other as the hot water fell on us. I hugged him until he slowly stopped shaking, the adrenaline slowly melting away. And as the cold and adrenaline left his limbs, something else slowly grew to attention. Well, not that slowly. His hardness was pressing against my stomach pretty quickly.
