Visible Panther Line (Paranormal Dating Agency Book 27)(24)
Author: Milly Taiden

Sky took Misty’s hand in hers and gave it a squeeze. Someone would find them, and they would be safe. They just had to wait a bit longer.

They pulled up in front of a warehouse. It was nondescript, nothing about it stood out, and she couldn’t see any signs of what company or who owned it. The door next to Misty opened, and Hedge stood there glaring at them. “Get out, or I will get you out.” He licked his lips. “You won’t like how I get you out.”

Misty took one look at her, then quickly scooted out of the car. Sky moved across the seat and followed her friend out. Hog grabbed her arm right away, and she could see Hedge had a hold of Misty.

The men marched them up to a rusted brown door. Sky yelled out, hoping Misty had hidden the phone in a pocket. “We’re not going inside. Let us go.”

“Shut the fuck up before I hurt you.” Hog raised a fist, and she recoiled from him.

Misty’s face was pale, and Sky tried to move closer to her. She didn’t want them to be separated at all. That could only lead to bad things. It took a minute for her eyes to adjust, but when they did, she was shocked to see a table and two chairs in the middle of the room.

“Welcome to your little slice of paradise, but this isn’t all ladies. Let me escort you to your accommodations.” The voice slid across her skin and left goosebumps. Sky turned and saw a man walk into the room, wearing a three piece suit. His shoes were shined and his head matched. Other than the suit, nothing about this man stood out.

“See, boss, we did good.” Hog spoke so fast Sky almost missed his words.

“I see you brought me two women, as for how good they are to me…we shall see.” The man nodded at Hedge. “Please follow me, ladies.”

The man turned, and Hedge grabbed Sky’s arm. Hog walked away with his head down. Misty leaned forward slightly, and Sky saw her tap her pocket. She hoped it meant she was still connected to whoever was on the other end of the phone.

They walked toward a door, and the man opened it and gestured for them to enter.

“This is where you will stay until I decide what happens next.” Hedge pushed them inside, and the door slammed behind them. Sky listened for the door lock to slide in place, then she turned to look at the room.

“Sheriff Demogue! Are you okay?” Misty ran across the room, and Sky followed behind her. The Sheriff was tied up, lying on a mattress in the corner. Misty removed his gag and helped him sit up.

“I’m okay. Are you two hurt?” The Sheriff ran his eyes over both of them, as if reassuring himself they were unharmed.

Misty pulled the phone out of her pocket and put it to her ear. “Eli?” She sighed when he responded. “We found the Sheriff.”

Chapter Nineteen

Damien pulled out of the hotel parking lot, when Eli’s phone rang. “Misty’s calling me.”

“Hello.” Eli yelled into the phone.

From the phone Damien heard muffled talking. “Yeah, Damien was a one-night fling, maybe a weekend fling, while I was in town. I’m not important to him. Misty is a friend of a friend and sleeping with his best friend. Again no attachments so you’re wasting your time with us.”

Damien swerved the car when he heard those words, but he quickly understood what Sky was doing.

“Come on, why did you take us?”

Damien muttered quietly, “Make sure the phone is on mute, so they don’t hear us.” Eli nodded and hit a button, then smiled at him.

“Come on, baby, give us some information to find you.” Eli nodded at him. They both listened to the goon go on about duct tape.

“Do you recognize that voice, Eli?” Damien didn’t, but they worked with so many contactors it was hard to say.

Eli bit his lip and concentrated; the man stopped talking. “I’m not sure yet.”

From the phone, Damien heard Sky talking.

“The thing is, Damien and Eli are going to tear you apart when they find us. We don’t need to be scared, and if we cry, they would get upset. You should be happy we aren’t a bawling mess. No man likes to see his woman in tears.”

Damien’s panther didn’t like the sound of those words. He was pushing to come out and protect their mate. Damien could tell Eli was struggling with his wolf.

“So, why are you taking us to the abandoned warehouses. There’s nothing in them, so whatever you’re looking for is long gone.”

Eli’s breath whooshed out when Misty spoke. Damien realized that was his friend’s first breath since the call had gone through. He was relieved she was okay and with Sky.

“Didn’t you hear, Misty, this is where they killed Mayor Jomen. They must be partial to the area.”

Damien grinned, now they knew exactly where the women were, and they could rush in and save them. Eli smiled, and it wasn’t a nice one.

From the phone they heard a groan then, “Shut up! We’re almost there. Just shut up, and we can finally gag you and get some peace!”

Eli growled and started to shift. “If they hurt one hair on her head, they are all dead.”

Damien clenched the steering wheel and nodded. “They’ll be dead no matter what.”

The sound of the car shutting off and doors opened greeted them next. “Get out, or I will get you out.”

Eli slammed his hand on the dashboard and his claws gouged scratches in the material.

“You won’t like how I get you out.”

Damien could hear movement coming from the phone. Misty must have been climbing out, and the phone rubbed against her clothing. A few moments later, they heard talking again.

“We are not going inside. Let us go.”

“Fuck, dammit. I’m going to kill those bastards for laying a hand on my mate. Hold on, baby. We’re almost there.” Damien pushed down on the gas and the car sped forward.

“Shut the fuck up before I hurt you.”

Eli’s face paled at the man’s words, and Damien knew how hard it was to listen and do nothing to help.

“Welcome to your little slice of paradise, but this isn’t all ladies. Let me escort you to your accommodations.”

Damien swung his gaze to Eli. “Dammit. That’s Salazar Rhoades! We should have known he would be back, and it wasn’t over. As soon as Jomen turned up dead. It should have been a sign!”

“See, boss we did good.”

Eli growled nodding. “Now I remember that voice. He was here that night we confronted Jomen. He got away from me.”

“I see you brought me two women, as for how good they are to me…we shall see.”

Damien sighed. “It’s not your fault. You can’t blame yourself. There was no way to know this would happen.”

“But I shouldn’t have mated Misty until I knew it was safe. I waited all this time, and she still gets caught up in the mess.”

From the phone they heard Salazar speaking again.

“This is where you will stay until I decide what happens next.”

“We can’t rush in there. He will kill them, and not suffer the slightest bit of remorse.” Damien nodded at Eli’s words, too lost in thought to reply just then.

“Sheriff Demogue! Are you okay?”

Damien smiled for the first time. “Well, that’s a break. If he’s not hurt, we have someone on the inside to help.”
