Dirty Truth : A High School Bully Romance(36)
Author: K. Walker

Wes thought about it for a moment, and I waited, curious what witty remark he’d have for me this time. None came though, and I grinned, knowing I’d stumped him for once.

“Go get dressed, you horn dog. I’ll throw some clothes on; then we can sit on your bed and do our homework together, okay?” When Wes grinned, I shot him a look. “Just homework. If you start getting handsy, I can’t promise where I might accidentally drop my math textbook.”

Wes winced, no doubt imagining the massive book hitting him where the sun doesn’t shine. Then, he held up two fingers and nodded solemnly. “Scout’s honor,” he promised.

I rolled my eyes, but he finally let me head into my room. I kicked the door shut behind me, then let out a sigh. Then, I found myself smiling. As much as he drove me crazy, I couldn’t deny just how much I liked spending time with him. It didn’t make much sense to me, but then, since when does any emotion ever make logical sense to anyone?

Pulling my towel off, I dried my hair again, trying to get as much of the water out of it as possible. Then, I tossed the towel onto my bed and grabbed my hairbrush from my desk and started trying to work out all the knots and tangles. As much fun as it was, showering with Wes, it was hard to properly take care of my hair with him pressed right up against me, his hands wandering if I’m distracted for too long.

I was going to have to ask Adrian for a recommendation for a salon to get it taken care of soon. I was way overdue for a haircut anyway. Plus, I loved sitting in the comfy chairs, letting the hairdresser wash and condition my hair, their fingers giving my scalp a massage at the same time.

A trip to the salon had always been a rare treat for me back when I’d lived with Mom. She always tried to squirrel away money, so I could go at least once a year, usually right before school started. Otherwise, she trimmed my hair up herself.

Now that I had a good stash of money in the backpack in my closet, I figured I could splurge a little more often. Once Lucas let us off house arrest, I’d have to make myself an appointment.

I was working a particularly stubborn knot out of my hair when I noticed the piece of paper lying on my pillow. I smiled as I walked over to it, imagining Wes had left me a romantic little note to help get me in the mood. I couldn’t imagine when he’d left it, though, and I was eager to see what he’d written.

The moment I laid eyes on it, though, I knew it wasn’t from Wes. The hairbrush fell from my hands with a clatter as I let out a scream that hurt even my ears, staring at the paper in horror.

Seconds later, my door flew open, Wes rushing in. He pulled me into his arms, and I buried my face against his chest, unable to stop the tears that had started falling. “What happened? What’s wrong?” Wes asked, holding me tight.

Shaking, I pointed to the paper on my bed, unable to look at it again. My entire body was shaking now, and nothing I did was able to stop it.

Wes must’ve read it from where he stood. His body went rigid and his arms got even tighter around me. Moments later, Sebastian came running into the room. Lucas was right behind him, both of them gasping for air. No doubt they’d both come running up the stairs when they’d heard me scream.

Any other time, I’d have been mortified about them seeing us both naked, me in Wes’s arms, but that thought barely even crossed my mind as I sobbed against Wes.

“What happened?” Lucas demanded, stalking over. I was able to look up just long enough to see his deep frown as he took in our mutual state of undress.

Wes didn’t speak. He just reached over and picked up the paper, passing it to his father.

Lucas’s stream of cursing followed immediately after, and I sobbed even harder. Eyes squeezed shut, I could still see the handwritten words clearly in my mind, and I doubted I’d be able to forget them anytime soon.

We’re watching you.
