Take Me in the Night(12)
Author: R.L. Kenderson

I knew she wasn’t innocent though. She had left me high and dry, as my mother had said. She might not have been embarrassed, but she apparently hadn’t loved me enough to take on her father’s wrath.

I really did need to stay away. I was never going to keep a clear head if I couldn’t keep my dick out of her.

I was going to have to find her tomorrow and let her know I was sorry. I should never have snuck into her room, I should never have pulled her covers down, and I should never have had sex with her.

I was sure she would agree that it had been a mistake as well. She hadn’t been warm and friendly since I came back to town. I didn’t understand why, but she was obviously as upset with me as I was with her.

I didn’t know where that was coming from, but it would probably be wise to make sure she didn’t press charges.

I rolled over. I needed to get my head on straight.

I wasn’t eighteen years old anymore.

I needed to start acting like it.

Addison

“Addison, stop fidgeting in your seat. It’s unladylike.”

Easier said than done. My father wasn’t the one who’d had a big ole dick inside him last night. I was sore and couldn’t get comfortable. I’d picked the wrong underwear to wear. I should have grabbed my big granny panties that I used when I had my period instead of my thong.

I picked at my dinner while I gave him the finger under the table. I had learned years ago to keep my rebellious thoughts to myself. And, even though I was a grown woman now, it wasn’t worth starting a fight.

It was my weekly Sunday dinner at my father’s house, and tonight, I wanted it to be over more than ever. I yawned for what felt like the thousandth time that night. Despite falling into a post-orgasmic sleep after Maddox had left, I was tired today.

Although that could be due to whoever had woken me up at six in the morning. There had been a loud crash in the alley under my window this morning. When I peeked out the window, I saw a group of guys walking away. I still didn’t know what the noise had been or if they had been up early or not even gone to bed last night, but I did know they’d woken me up. And, after that, I couldn’t fall back asleep.

I kept replaying sex with Maddox over and over in my head. In the light of day, it almost felt like it hadn’t been real. Except for my sore vagina, that was.

While the sex had been phenomenal, I was pissed about the whole thing. He’d barely spoken to me, outside of me being his interim lawyer. No, I’m sorry for leaving, or, I missed you. Nothing. And then he had come into my home in the middle of the night, and I’d just spread my legs for him.

I was just as mad at myself as I was with him. I hadn’t even made him work for it.

“Simon tells me that you have been hanging around Pete Hagen.”

I shot Simon a look. Blabbermouth.

He sneered at me in return. He knew exactly what he was doing.

“Yes, he’s my friend. Are you going to tell me who I can and can’t be friends with?”

“Of course not, dear. I just want to make sure that is all you are.”

My father was unbelievable.

“Not that it is any of your business, but yes, we are only friends. I’m not dating anyone.”

“Good.” My father took a bite of food. “Speaking of dating, I know that Maddox Wolfe is back in town.” His jaw clenched as if the words were hard for him to say.

“You’re correct. I’ve run into him once or twice.”

My father pursed his lips. “Yes, well, Simon and I think it’s best that you stay away from the Wolfe boy.”

It was unfortunate that I had taken a drink of my wine at the same time my father said that because I almost spit it across the table. Instead, I tried to swallow it and immediately began coughing as it went down the wrong tube.

The fact that my father had called Maddox a boy was hilarious. There was nothing boyish about him. He was all man.

“Addison, control yourself,” my father said.

God, he could be such a dick sometimes.

“I’m sorr-sorry my chok-choking is offensive to y-you.”

Not to mention, it was only the three of us. It wasn’t like we were in the midst of company.

My father’s face softened a little as I grabbed for my water glass. “I apologize. I know you’re not doing it on purpose. But perhaps you should excuse yourself to use the bathroom.”

Good idea.

I got up, taking my water with me, and went down the hall to the bathroom. After getting my breathing under control, I used the toilet and adjusted my clothing to make myself more comfortable.

After leaving the bathroom, I skipped the dining room and took my glass to the kitchen to drop it off. I said a quick hello to the staff and went to grab my purse. Then, I went back to the dining room to bid my father good-bye.

“Addison, where do you think you’re going?”

“I decided you were right, Father. I should excuse myself.”

“I didn’t mean for the whole night. You haven’t finished your dinner.”

“Addison, you are being disrespectful to your father,” Simon had the audacity to say.

And he wondered why I didn’t want to marry him.

“I’ve had enough to eat, thank you,” I said to my dad. “I’m leaving right now out of respect, so I don’t say anything I will regret,” I told Simon. “Have a good night.” I spun on my heel and walked away.

“We’re not done discussing the Wolfe boy,” my father called out to me.

I put my hand up in the air and waved. The conversation was over as far as I was concerned.

I hurried to my car before my father could send Simon after me. My engine didn’t want to turn over right away, and I slightly panicked. On the third try, the car started. As I put it in drive, I made a mental note to take it in to be looked at. I shuddered at the thought of having to spend the night at my father’s with him lecturing me all evening.

When I got home, I parked behind my building in one of the two parking spots. Someday, I would have a house with a garage where I wouldn’t have to deal with ice and snow in the winter. There was a lot of shade in the back, so summer was always easier even if my vehicle still got hot, and I couldn’t pass up being able to walk downstairs to my office every morning.

The building next to me had an unfamiliar SUV parked with the back facing the door. It was wide open, as was the door to the building. It looked like someone was moving in.

The building was owned by a couple of brothers. Scott and Michael Carson were both accountants with their business on the bottom half. They used to live above their office, like me, but then they’d each gotten married—one about two years ago and the other about six months ago—and the place had been vacant since.

Because I had nothing else to do, I figured it would be nice of me to stop by and say hi. Maybe offer some assistance if need be.

I peeked in the doorway and didn’t see anyone.

“Hello?” I called up the stairs.

There was no answer, but I could hear the pounding of what sounded like a hammer, so I decided to just head up to the second floor. The door to the apartment was open, too, so I knocked before stepping inside.

“Hello? I just wanted to welcome you—what the hell?”
