Shepard A Spawns of Chaos MC Novel(23)
Author: Rae B. Lake

"Where are you going?"

"Hopefully, to get Tex out of this shit."

She nodded, leaned up on her tiptoes, and brushed her lips across mine. I smashed my mouth down on hers. I wanted more, I set out to destroy everything about this woman, but instead, she broke me down. I never cared about any other woman the way that I cared about her, and she was a much a part of me as my brothers were.

I pushed her back and looked over to my brother, "Tex, watch out for her."

"Yup, that sweet thang right there is safe and sound with me." He blew her a kiss before he went back to doing what he was doing. The looming deadline and threat to his life already a distant memory. He could always move on from whatever was happening, I wish I had that ability.

I ran out of the lab, and instead of going out the back door as Kat did, I went out the front, I jumped in my car and waited until I barely heard the roar of Kat's bike before I peeled out. I knew where he was going, so I didn't need to be so close behind him.

This was the only shot I had, and I hoped I was making the right choice.

Chapter 19

Shepard's POV

"Fuck!" I cursed as Kat took a turn down a back road, he wasn't going the same way. He had already past the building he’d met the mysterious man the first time. He wasn't going to make the drop there. He was on the strip, abandoned house after abandoned house littered the street.

I had to think fast. If I couldn't get the proof this way, then I would just have to force him to tell me somehow, I would need to convince Rooster I knew what I was talking about.

"What the hell are you doing, Kat? What are you doing?" I followed as closely as I could without him seeing me, but it was going to get hard, he was driving down more secluded areas, there was less traffic.

Finally, he pulled off toward a gutted burnt frame of an abandoned house and got off his bike.

I waited until he was standing in the inner framework of the house before I got out of my car and followed. It was the remains of the house Tex and I had previously destroyed. I could still smell the smoke.

I hid behind one of the few parked cars in the vicinity and waited to see watched to see what he was up to. Another man walked up to Kat, a hood low on his face. He looked jumpy and kept looking around him to make sure that he wasn't followed; an amateur.

"You got it?"

I had to strain to hear what he was saying.

"The fuck I look like next time you’re going to come closer to where I live. Tell Peyton the whole shipment is here and if he wants more just to hit me up."

I watched as the man with the hoodie reached into the front of his pants and pulled out a wad of cash, all of it bound together by a rubber band. He pulled out six more stacks of cash and gave it to Kat. Kat, in turn, pulled out two huge ten-gallon Ziploc bags full of Blue Bunny. I could see the tie-dye color from here. I pulled out my cell phone and took a few pics, proof for Rooster.

"Tell him not to question my word; if I say I am going to get it, I will. Don't fuck around and lose this shit. You hear." Kat pushed the two bags into the mystery man's arms.

The man shuffled from foot to foot excitedly, and he used a free hand to pull the hood on his sweater down and open up the zipper so he could stash the bags. He looked over his shoulder one more time, right in my direction.

"Motherfucker!" I said under my breath.

It was fucking Gerry.

There was no way that I was going to let them get away. No way. I stood up from where I was, ducking my head so they wouldn't notice me. I wobbled from side to side, trying to make it seem like I was just one of the normal junkies in the area.

"What the fuck?" Kat looked in my direction; the gig was up. He knew who I was right away. Both of them took off in opposite directions.

"Don't run now, motherfucker!" I yelled as I pulled out my gun and shot Gerry. I didn't want to take him out, but I wanted to make sure that he wasn't going to be able to run away. I caught him in the leg right below the knee.

I turned and ran after Kat. He took off like a bat out of hell. I jumped fences and leaped over garbage cans. I couldn't shoot him, unfortunately. His punishment had to come from Rooster, and in order for me to get the blame off Tex, I had to bring Kat in. I took a chance and cut behind a few of the houses and was able to catch up with him. I jumped him just as he turned the corner, tackling him to the ground.

"Get the fuck off!" Kat tried to reach for anything around him so he could defend himself. He picked up a rock and swung it toward my head, blocking it easily, I brought my forearm down on his throat. He dropped the rock, and instinctively grabbed for his seizing throat. I picked up the rock that he’d had and brought it down on his face. One time, then again, and again. The blood seeping from the cuts and splits on his face spurring me on. The liquid splashed up and blinded me for a second. I wiped my eye and stopped for a second, assessing him. I hadn't killed him, but if I continued, I knew I would. I stood up over the traitor I used to call my brother and spat in his face. He was less than a man, and I couldn’t wait for him to get what was due to him.

I picked him up and threw him over my shoulder and walked back to where I left Gerry bleeding on the ground. Just like I thought, he was still rolling around on the ground like a bitch.

"Get the fuck up!" I kicked him, Kat still bleeding and unconscious on my shoulder.

"I can't, why the fuck-" he looked up at my face, "Oh shit, it's you. Listen, I gave the money, I paid for this."

"And what about the blow you still owe on? You forgot about the ten grand you owe me?"

"Gianna is paying for that. Why don't you take that up with her if you still need to be paid. That isn't my problem anymore." He shrugged as if he didn't care in the least his sister was stuck somewhere working off his debt.

"You selfish fuck, if I didn't need you for proof, I would blow your fucking head off right here. Get the hell up now."

He tried to stand, but he almost instantly fell back down. I kicked him again; I didn't have time for this. I bent down, the weight of Kat becoming heavier on my shoulder by the second, I grabbed Gerry by the arm, and I half dragged half helped him up and to my car.

"Get in."

"Where are we going?" He asked as he leaned heavily against the car.

"Don't ask me shit, just get in the fucking car." I glared at him as I opened the door and threw Kat in the back seat. I used a few zip ties I had in the glove box to keep his hands tied down.

"My leg is bleeding badly, and I think I need to get to a hospital."

I flicked my lighter on and held the gas. "You know what your sister has had to do for you? You know she could have been brutalized and sold off like fucking cattle to pay off your debt? And you’re sitting here complaining about a little flesh wound on your leg?"

"She’s a big girl she knew what she was doing," he raised his leg on the seat, "but look at this, I’m gushing blood right now."

"You want to stop the bleeding, fine let's stop the bleeding." I took the hot lighter and slammed the red hot metal against the wound, making sure to hold his leg so he wouldn't kick away. His scream was high pitched and long at the burning sensation.
