Beautiful Deceit (Watch Me Burn #3)(45)
Author: R.E. Bond

“Stop playing with her, baby. We’ve got shit to do.”

He was right.

Miranda was speechless as I finally shoved Claire away, flipping her the bird.

“Good point, Holloway. Saved by the rich boy, sissy. Lucky you, right?”

She scowled before stalking off, her face bright red as she seemed to notice all the people that had been staring at us.

Miranda watched her leave before turning to Caden, a dark look on her face.

“And you? Are you anything like your father? Do you run and tell him where she is and what she’s doing all the time?”

Oh boy, that wasn’t going to end well.

Caden growled, leaning against the Corvette and pulling me back against his chest as if to restrain himself from tackling my aunt.

He’d been around the crew a little more lately, so I wouldn’t put it past him to do it.

“I’m nothing like that piece of shit. He’s in the fucking ground where he belongs.”

Why’d that make me horny?

I’d finally spent too much fucking time with Skeeter.

I placed my hands over his as they fisted against my stomach, reminding him to calm down.

If he zoned out and pressed against my skin, it was going to hurt like a bitch, not that I’d blame him.

Miranda’s face dropped and embarrassment took over.

“He died too?”

“My dad liked to piss off a lot of people. He just fucked with the wrong person,” Caden replied, his body tense.

“He was murdered?” She asked with surprise.

If only she knew I’d happily been the one to send him off to meet his maker.

Caden’s fists were shaking slightly from how tight he had them, and I held back a wince as they bumped against my bruises.

“Yep. He was dead to me the day I found out he’d hurt Rory.”

“But he’s your dad?”

Miranda obviously hadn’t been in love before.

I didn’t think I’d ever known her to date, in all honesty.

“So what? I’m glad he’s fucking dead. He was a monster, just like Max.”

Then he gently moved me aside and stalked back into the diner to calm down, Tyler trailing after him to make sure he didn’t break anything.

Caden was fierce in every aspect, especially when it came to protecting me.

I cherished that.

Miranda sighed. “So, your best friend likes the concept of murder when he thinks it’s a good punishment, and he has anger issues. He’s going to hurt you, Aurora.”

Oh, hell fucking no.

I narrowed my eyes and leaned against my car.

She was lucky I didn’t get stabby with her for that fucking comment.

“Caden wouldn’t hurt me. Ever.”

“Why’d you guys break up then if he’s so great?”

Why did everyone want to fucking know?

“We split up before I got locked up a few months back. Well, I guess it was well before that, but I was going through some shit and I just couldn’t do a relationship at the time. He didn’t agree on some of my choices.”

Her eyes went wide all over again, and I was pretty sure they’d pop out of their fucking sockets soon.

“You were locked up? As in, prison?”

Jensen grinned, not being able to help sticking his two cents worth of shit stirring in.

“Yeah, can’t you see her wicked prison tats?”

She ignored him, keeping her eyes on me.

“Aurora, what the fuck have you…”

I rolled my eyes, not bothering to make a lie up.

“Someone at school wrote a statement about me murdering Max and Tristan. I spent two months in prison before they dropped the case and let me go.”

Miranda looked confused as she spoke in a low voice.

“Why’d they drop it?”

“Can’t use the statement when the apparent witness turns up dead,” I said coolly, ignoring the expression of horror on her face before I turned to Jensen with a smile. “So, are you and Luke up to much this afternoon?”

He shrugged, thankfully letting me change the subject.

“Probably going to just hang out at home. Luke’s got dinner with his mother, so obviously, I’m not going.”

Lukas grunted with annoyance, and I gave him a small encouraging smile.

“Hey, she’ll come around eventually.”

Probably not.

Karen was a fucking cunt.

“Doubt it. She’s still pissy about you, let alone Jense,” he sighed, making me cock my head slightly.

“Want me to talk to her?”

Hold her hostage more like it.

His eyes widened, and he must have seen his mother’s life flash in front of his eyes, because he shut the idea down super quickly.

“Fuck no and never, babe. She’d kill all three of us, or you’d fight with her. I’d prefer to suffer through dinner with her than have that talk.”

Suit yourself.

“Alright, I tried. I’ll see you guys tomorrow then, yeah?”

Jensen grinned, a teasing tone in his voice.

“You’re going home alone? You know Skeet…”

“She won’t be alone,” Diesel jumped in, reminding us all that he was standing off to the side, swinging the Corvette keys around his finger.

Come on, really?

I groaned. “You don’t have to fucking baby sit me, D.”

He raised an eyebrow, a smirk stretching across his cheeky face, causing his dimples to pop.

“You make it sound like I hate spending time with you. C’mon, there’s beer in your fridge with my name on it, babe. Say goodbye to your boys and let’s get going before I fucking dehydrate.”

I humoured him, giving Lukas and Jensen a kiss, but Jensen held me firmly in front of him and kissed the hell out of me, leaving me slightly dazed when he finally let me breathe.

I blinked at him with a small smile.

“What was that for?”

And can you do it again?

He shrugged, but I saw the hint of mischief in his naughty blue eyes.

“Nothing, baby cakes. I’ll see you tomorrow. I love you.”

“I love you too. Now, get out of here,” I replied, snorting when he saluted me as he headed back to the diner to find the other two.

Lukas grinned over his shoulder as he followed behind.

“Love you.”

“Love you too, asshole,” I smiled sweetly, blowing a kiss and making him laugh.

Miranda spluttered as Diesel put an arm around my shoulders lazily, being mindful of my sore side.

“Are you seeing all of them?” She choked out, appearing to be having something similar to a heart attack.

“Don’t be silly,” I chuckled before giving her a smirk. “Diesel here’s just my friend. We don’t fuck, do we Diesel?”

He grunted, giving me the side eye.

“Don’t remind me that I’m the only mother fucker missing out. If you were my real friend, you’d hate the fact that I’m being excluded from the fuck fest.”

Miranda gasped as if I was meant to be some innocent child.

There was nothing innocent about me, Max had made sure of that.

“You’re sleeping with the others?”

“It’s none of your business who I bounce on,” I shrugged and went to leave, but she grabbed my arm.
