Beautiful Deceit (Watch Me Burn #3)(49)
Author: R.E. Bond

I wandered to my car with my head down, halting as I noticed some of the Soldiers leaning against it.

Razor grinned when he saw me, causing my stomach to churn.

Why was he at school?

“Donovan, how have you been sleeping lately?”

I scowled, moving closer so I didn’t have to shout and let half the student population know what was going on.

“I haven’t been. What the fuck are you doing here?” I demanded in a low voice, earning a lazy shrug from him.

“Figured I’d check up on you. Also thought I’d better introduce myself properly since we haven’t really done that. They call me Razor, but you know that already.”

I snorted, giving him a grin that probably reflected my irritation.

“I know who you are, but I call you something else, to be completely fucking honest with you.”

He chuckled with a threat of violence in it.

“Well you might want to look happier to see me. Can’t have Hunter thinking you don’t want me here, can we?”

I went to speak, but Hunter’s voice reached me from behind, and he sounded fucking pissed.

“Donovan, what the fuck? Why the fuck did you shoot Diesel?” He snapped, making sure to keep the volume down.

Razor hooted with laughter, slapping his thigh dramatically, not giving a shit if we drew a crowd.

“You actually shot him? Fucking hell, that’s classic, babe.”

Hunter snarled and stepped closer to us, as if suddenly realizing my company.

I just wanted to throw myself into his arms and not let go.

I needed him to take it all away, but I couldn’t let him save me.

I had to save them this time.

“What the fuck are you even doing here, Razor?” Hunter barked, his fists clenching by his sides.

“Came to see my girl,” the cocky bastard grinned, and Hunter’s face scrunched up into pure anger.

I was surprised Hunter didn’t have an aneurism with the way his face went red.

“She isn’t your fucking shit!”

“No? In case you didn’t get the memo, Donovan’s a Soldier bitch now. Tell all your fucking friends,” Razor said with pure glee, his cruel eyes sparkling with torment.

Hunter’s brown eyes darted to mine, hurt and confusion washing through him as I stepped closer to Razor’s side and kept my mouth shut.

“What the fuck, Rory? What’s going on?”

I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze with a hard stare.

“What Razor said. I’m his girl now.”

“If they’re threatening you…,” Hunter growled, but I held my shit together, even though I wanted to break down and beg him to wrap me in his arms.

“They aren’t,” I forced out, pressing against Razor and bravely putting my arms around his waist.

I wanted to fucking throw up.

“I really like him, okay? You and I weren’t together, so butt out of it and mind your own business,” I added, my voice coming out confident and strong.

He totally didn’t believe me.

His hard eyes watched mine in silence for a moment before he spoke bluntly.

“Doesn’t mean I don’t care about you. You’re one of the most important people in my life, babe. He tried to kill you, for fuck’s sake.”

I snapped on the inside, pain spreading across my chest at his public show of affection.

I had to get him to leave before someone got physically hurt.

“So did the Devils and Psychos at some point. People can change. You did, after all.”

“Soldiers don’t fucking change, and I was never a threat to you. You know I don’t hurt women. Razor’s going to abuse you and sexually assault you for fun,” he gritted out, making me sink to a whole new low.

It was time to act like a whore.

Again.

“Well maybe he’s decided I’m good in bed and it would be a waste to kill me. He can’t rape me if I willingly climbed into bed with him,” I replied, hating the expression he gave me.

He believed my lies, and he was fucking disgusted with me.

“You’re seriously fucking him, Rory?” He asked in disbelief, shaking his head slightly in disappointment.

I went to reply, but Razor dipped his head and kissed me hard.

I hoped Hunter didn’t see my tiny flinch before I kissed him back, but when I moved back, he was stalking towards his car, slamming the door behind him and taking my broken heart with him.

Once he’d left, Razor gave me a smirk.

“You’re so good at being someone you’re not. Either that, or you’re a natural whore.”

Fucking asshole.

I bit back my comment and kissed his cheek, feeling Caden’s eyes on me from somewhere.

I always fucking felt him.

“Thanks. I’ll see you later, baby.”

He smirked, yanking me against him and kissing me again before whispering in my ear.

“I’ll stop by tonight so we can talk.”

For fuck’s sake.

I just wanted to be left the fuck alone.

I nodded, giving him a fake smile before climbing into the driver’s seat of the Corvette to leave, knowing Caden was still watching us.

I drove to my old house quickly, making sure to lock everything up before having a shower and getting changed.

I had missed calls from Skeeter, but I ignored them, curling up on the couch to have a few beers while I waited for Razor to show up.

I would bet money on Skeeter calling to yell at me because Hunter had informed him on my actions.

I ended up making lasagna for dinner, and I’d just plated some up when Razor arrived, giving me a genuine smile when I opened the door to let him in.

“Hey. Something smells good.”

I was taken back by his relaxed attitude, but I shrugged and walked back to the dish on the kitchen bench.

“Yeah, I just made dinner. You want some?”

He nodded, watching me serve him a plate before we sat at the table together.

We ate in silence for a while, but he finally glanced up and gave me a serious look.

“You know, I’m surprised you’re being so good about this shit. What are you playing at?”

I snorted.

Was he fucking serious?

“Well, the fact that you’re threatening to hurt my guys is basically how I push through this bullshit I have to fake with you. Besides, I might not like you, but at least if I have to put up with you, I can pretend we get along since I had to cut everyone else off. So, you got promoted to best friend, and you better not waste the food I gave you,” I warned, knowing I probably shouldn’t threaten the psychopath, but I had to get my amusement from somewhere.

He chuckled, actually finding me entertaining, which was fucking weird in itself.

“Yes ma’am. You know, you aren’t who I thought you were.”

I rolled my eyes, wanting to stab my fork into his forehead.

“And who did you think I was? I’ve never pretended to be someone else around you,” I muttered, shovelling some food into my mouth to keep my fork busy.

He watched me silently for a moment, before leaning forward on the table with his elbows.

“I always thought you were some little bitch hiding behind Skeeter. Seems to me, it’s the other way around and you’re actually that fucking damaged that you’re basically the terminator. You literally have nothing to live for, so you go in guns blazing, without a care in the fucking world.”
